I didn’t hear the Dio version of Black Sabbath until about 6 years ago. I had a coworker that preferred the Dio years. I borrowed the 2 CDs and really liked them. But The Ozzy years are my favorite.

Amazing interview! You asked fantastic questions and brought up a lot of good points. She is really knowledgeable not only from a pressing standpoint but also as an all around fan of Black Sabbath and vinyl. Plus, she has an unbelievable collection of Sabbath albums! I’m looking forward to your future interviews and other vinyl related videos!

I started following Jen a couple years back on Instagram. I've got the utmost respect for her as a collector and as a music/vinyl/sabbath historian. I'm also a sabbath collector, and Jen has given me countless tidbits of information, in addition to us trading a couple of records.
I don't think of Jen as a 'woman' that collects, I simply view her as a passionate and extremely knowledgeable collector, which is the only thing that matters.
I hope Jen's profile continues to rise. Imo, she's an excellent ambassador for vinyl and music in general.
Somehow this is the first video I've seen on this channel, I'm certain to watch many more.

It's crazy how the UK swirl prices have gone through the roof. I was paying £10 to £15 for clean UK swirls of the first 4 Sabbath lps in the mid 00s. I paid £10 for Reality and even in the last decade could have got a copy with the poster on more than one occasion for £50 but wasn't prepared to pay that much just to get the poster! A stupid move in hindsight. Anyway, great and insightful conversation.

    • @leipherd8118

As a Brummie fan since I discovered them as a teenager in the early 80s, Sabbath were never very cool.
Even when Grunge came along, it seemed no one wanted to admit to their influence (maybe because metal in general had become so uncool or maybe because their output at the time was not their best).
It feels like it was only over the last decade they have become "redeemed" critically, but I've always loved them. Perhaps it's just taken this long for the rest of the world to get as dystopian as Birmingham!
When people talk about who they would have in a "fantasy" band line up, I would always say Tony Iommi on guitar, Geezer Butler on bass, Bill Ward on drums and Ozzy on vocals!

Great interview Mazzy. I'm a regular listener of her podcast with Robyn. I actually know Robyn fairly well...she has done a bunch of my Projekt Gemineye stuff on lathe cut.
Love her Black Sabbath collection. .but I'm my experience. .the UK vertigo swirl 1st pressings are the best sounding of the first 3 albums. Beware those Taiwan and Korean pressing...they sound like crap and are made from old stampers. Knowing your matrix numbers is helpful in these situations.
I hope you have her back again. ..great stuff. Oh and say Hi to Robyn.

I'm glad Warner are finally reissuing the entire catalogue, and not just the 70's albums with Ozzy. I grew up during the Dio era, and they're finally being released, with the later catalogue coming later. Black Sabbath is a band, not just Ozzy. If any one is Sabbath, however, it's Tony Iommi.

Good information here. Ace Frehley from Kiss did a big variation thing with a few of his newer albums like Mc Cartney and I bought a few different ones and finally stopped after the red/green Christmas variant. I admit though…so much fun! Maybe someday I’ll try to complete it…not likely, but could happen. Had fun watching all you Apple Scruffs collect all that new Beatle product.

The industry is perhaps male dominated. I don't work in it, but my impression is that is still the way it is. As a private individual i've met very, very few women that are actually into good, 'classic' music, or any decent music beyond pop charts. When I do, it's a revelation. However, when I do they have the most amazing collections. This is NOT a sexist comment, it's just the truth. I always find this a bit strange as music is for all and accessible to all. In terms of LGBT+, I don't give a good damn how anyone identifies themself I always treat people as people without the tags.
