I’ve just ordered the Army bivvi bag … grade 1 for £29…. You can use trekking poles in a pyramid shape , like a hooped bivvi ..& use a jungle bag inside with bug net zipped up … cheers buddy cheers Chris & Sam

i got mine brand new with clear plastiic bag unopened on ebay for £25 british army mtp i took out the lace they had and replaced it with paracord works a treat and sinches up 8-10% more.
basically, you're paying less for DWR (a breathable coating sprayed on the outside), or more for MVP (a breathable membrane sandwiched in between 2 or 3 layers)... if you want a complete seal, then you'll have to go for a gas-permeable membrane.
I have wanted a Bug Bivy for when I can't hammock camp. I purchased the BIGGER model and not the STANDARD so all dimensions are for the bigger model. I use the Bug Bivy under the hammocks rain fly in inclement weather.
The one I have is the "Y" Zip from Yama Mountain Gear. It's 90 inches long , 36 inches wide at the head and 23 inches high. Weighs 7.4 oz and is made with Silpoly 20D material. There are 5 different styles of Bug Bivy's. The corners can be staked out with the elastic lines they include forming a 6 inch high bathtub floor. It's reasonably priced at $125.00 American.
A foam pad (Z Rest, etc.) underneath instead of a ground sheet adds non-compressible thermal insulation while protecting the floor and you from thorns, rocks, etc. Then use an inflatable pad inside for a little more thermal insulation and padded comfort.
I have a thermarest z lite. and that was not cheap. Always have protected the bivvybag and cleared the area I. Sleeping on. Especially woodland camps. Always loved freezing my bits off on the floor reminds you your actually out in nature. Thanks for taking time to watch video. 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🤧🤧🤧🥸🤲🤲🤲🤲
Great idea , but would add inside a waterproof ground sheet .
I've had they snugpak one before. It's a pure sweat box. Might as well buy a bin liner. Only one I haven't had condensation issues is old goretex bags which weigh a ton. I basically only use a non waterproof bivy and tarp now or just a regular inner and tarp

Thanks for the nice, clear and concise info on bivvies. Come a long way from the big plastic bags mattresses came in that we used to pickup from behind beds r us and camp with.
But cardboard is the best. Homeless people use. And they can't be wrong. All this new technology we don't really need it. A wool blanket is a classic. Great review of your collection of bivvies Mark 👌. The Salamanda looks like a palace compared to the rest 🤣. I’d have to go for the army bag myself, with a nice fit soldier to share it with 😉… He can protect me from slugs and spiders too!

On the Oex, is there any space for air to get in and out at the head when the cover is clipped on? I like the look of it but I feel I'd need to modify it to ensure good airflow when it's raining.
I purchased a new (still sealed packaging) MTP for £30 off eBay. So bargains can be had if you keep your eye out as I was monitoring sites for many months prior.
I also have a Dutch Army M80 bivi which has a central zip right down to the ankles. I'd recommend either the M80 or M90 bivi's to anyone as they are excellent.
yes i agree bargains can be had but if your impatient like myself i tend not too wait. you certainly had a bargain and you are an example of just hanging back keep an eye out and bang you got a good deal. my love my bivvi bag. thank you for commenting and more winter adventures are coming from the bivvy bag.
Great comparison of bivvy bags. I put a bit of builders Damp Proof Membrane under my tent, its really tough and cheap, bit heavy but then its thick plastic, never gets punctured
I use tyvek. Under mine. Light weight and is water proof. Tom outdoors bought me tyvek sheet. Never used anything else after that. Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers. Thanks for watching.
@@1stclassadventures I didn't know what Tyvek was, but yes roof membrane looks like a better option. It could even be sewn and made into a Bivvy itsself!

Eat garlic. It leaches through your skin snd repels ticks.👍🏾

I've seen ppl use that surplus bivvy bag that cinches up like a hoop bivvy. There is a guy in here with a video of his mods. It's pretty cool, he just uses sticks similar to how ppl use treking poles to make a tarp tent

@@1stclassadventures coincidentally I have a new bivvy on the way. Be here Monday. I got the U.S Military one brand new unused in the new OCP cammo. I have yet to see these on any other surplus sites. They all still sell the old ACU version or the super old woodland cammo version. I like woodland cammo but I'm pretty sure they haven't been manufactured in ages as a surplus item so even an unused one is over a decade old prolly

I got the stratosphere and i put my rucksack at the bottom and pull it tight making a mini tent...im now using a lightwave stormchaser as the snugpak strat has a nylon smell that i find annoying...but the big plus for me was the side opening and i could watch the stars at night. Cant do this with the lightwave
The side opening is a plus point. Because doing the caterpillar out of a bivvybag or the salamander bivvy is not fun. If you get caught short for a wee.

I have had an OEX Bivi bag for about a year now and never used it because i have it for emergencies only. Mainly due to i use my other bivi bag i called the OEX Fox 1 v1 ( Tent ). That snugpack hooped bivvy looks very small to me and what is the condensation like around your feet area like. I think if i had to choose i would go for the OEX Salamada looks like a better design and build.
Your always going to get some sort of condensation in what ever you use. Really. Because your breathing in a small area. I don't use a down bag. I use synthetic. Although no condensation in the salamander I think it was because I had the mesh part open so plenty of air. I also have the original phoxx 1. There going for alot of money now. My first tent. I used just my tarp with a down quilt cover, inflatable mattress and floor mat with ground sheet. I have a bivi but its too restrictive.
The cleveland way from bridlington to whitby. Epic.
Sold the bivi now.
Think I would go for the snugpak, will be ideal for motorbike camping, I’m not into spiders or slugs

I’m off for 4 days in my snugpak. Forecast is 30° and thunderstorms. Good news is you can sleep on top of it with the zip open and do yourself up if it rains.

I only used it the once. But no condensation slept with the flap up and just the mesh bit at the front. There was plenty of air blowing through.

Using a bivvybag you should be OK. Your face is facing the opening. That's when I use a head net. But in anything else you zip up. I would suggest not zipping it up fully. With the salamander oex. I would leave the mesh zipped up and roll back the outer so it is unzipped fresh air blowing through. Even I a tent you get condensation. You will never be able to escape the dreaded condensation. 😇😇😇😇😇🧐🤓😎🥸🥳🤠. Thank you for watching.

That's a hard one to answer. Bivvybags because I like my face out. But hooped bivvys because there like a little enclosed home.
Oex Bush Pro bivvybag. And salamander. There I've done it. But I might change my mind.🤥🤥🤞🤞🤞
Did you have any problems with the oex bivvy as a youtuber called English woodsman said there’s a problem with the pole?can you please help as I would like to buy one.p.s love your videos since you first started.have fun and look forward to your next video.
You do have to to be forceful to get the pole in the housing but like anything it will get better with use. Some people suggest sawing a small portion of the pole off. To make it easier to fit in the housing. But I will never start sawing or cutting my gear. There are videos on this modifications on oex salamander. I think. @@1stclassadventures can still get them for 90 quid or so if you hunt about. Honestly dude, Tom will get bivvy envy. They're half as wide again as his rRdge Raider, and goretex. We'll worth the money.

cant seem to find a matt that will go inside the snugpak without pulling the footbox tight 😵💫 dont like having the matt out side because i seem to just slide off all the time.

I slip everywhere in all my tents bivvybags etc you get used to it. One thing that might be worth a try is an anti slip matt you buy them from (the range). Shoos like that also tesco. You put them under keyboards anything that slips. You buy a little roll of it. Pop that under your sleeping bag between your matt. Worth a try. I hope I have understood your question. 🙏🙏🙏. Basicly bivvys work best with mummy shape matts as my one was rectangular and 4 inches thick it wouldn't fit that stratosphere. And i didnt want to put that matt under the bivvy if that makes sense
But its all good now for one has made yet another purchase to my wifes dismay🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Good video Mark and I guess all you need to do now is weigh up your preferences from a quicker potential escape from psychopathic killers but having slugs crawl over your face (unless you wear a net) or sleep in a tent safe from those mother fucker slugs but the psychos can block your escape route 😁🤣 ATB mate - stay safe and keep washing those handies! 🙌
