- Essential gear The British army gortex DPM bivvy bag ( super set up )
nice lightweight waterproof set up no tarp or ground sheet needed
hope you enjoy it.
if you have to always sleep feet down hill and turn edge up to stop flowing water - Zábava
Great set up & being tall myself you proved its suitable, thanks 👍
I'm a Bivvy Bag user and I've never thought of doing this. Great idea and I'll be trying it on my next trip out!! Brilliant 👏🏻
Welcome buddy let me know how you get on
I prefer using it the opposite way around.
Use the poles to pitch a MSS gortex ground sheet 'over' the bivi, (within which is your sleeping bag).
Much better rain protection and additional cover for other kit or a stove etc.
Same amount of kit, just applied differently.
What an ABSOLUTELY great idea ... thinking outside the box CHEERS
Your welcome bud it works really well
Thanks that's a good bit of inspiration there! My last camp was using a bivvy bag and although I love the freedom of it, it did rain a fair bit during the night, and without any tarp overhead I did end up with a bit of water coming through the gap around my face. Not sure my bivvy bag is quite large enough for this exact setup but it's some food for thought on how I might do things differently next time.
That's it bud take away the bits you need and spark inspiration. You will have to do a little video the next time your out and tag me in it to see 🙂👍
This set up is superb for stealthy camps in bad weather. Almost bomb proof. 👍🏾
Most definitely bud super cheap and reliable
nice set-up
It makes sense bud
😮 thank you for sharing...I'll try this soon
Perfect 👍
Thanks 👍 nice video 👍
Excelente idea, muchas gracias. Saludos desde Argentina.
Thank you
I used to do something very similar to this with my DD tarp during the summer and whilst hiking.
Back in the days I could hike more then a few miles without feeling like I had died several times 😂
Great tip man, enjoying the content 👍
Thanks bud appreciate it
Get yourself a mountain bike. It carries the load and you can go further easier.
Great idea!
Thanks bill
Very good...I saw a similar idea a while ago but yours looks more solid with the tarp clips.
Thanks bud
Nice idea👍
Thanks bud hope your well
Great idea iv been in the infantry for 11 years and never seen this done
Thank you buddy and thank you for your service 🤜🤛
@@chrisoutdoors82 Thank you buddy i appeciate it
I run a hammock inside a sleeping bag as a pod system but I do need a ground option and thought about going back to the humble Bivvy, they've come on a lot since the Orange bin bags I remember lol 🤘
Definitely bud my first bivvy bag experience was a orange bag up cross fell in the UK, I'd be interested in seeing your system if you could tag us in a video 🙂
@@chrisoutdoors82 I still need to do a zipper at the head end but here's the gist...
Due to the loop/tab system I can use the hammock with or without the bug net and even with the bugnet I can fold the top over as an overquilt through the unzipped net but tbf if It's bug weather it ain't quilt weather haha.

And as for Cross Fell, whis thou frae Marra? Aahs Whitevven lad mesel like eh 🤘
I use a bivi bag all the time but this is a great idea, il try it!
Give it a go bud
Interesting 👏👏👏👏👏
Nice one, I might just get a surplus bivvy for that, and combined with one of my USGI ponchos, pretty pukka shelter system 👍
For summer definitely, have you seen the helikon tex swagman roll now that is a versatile piece of kit
@@chrisoutdoors82 Yes, but in May for a camping break for three weeks (I’m retired) I got a (can’t remember the brand) hooded/insulated/ front hand warmer pocket poncho off Amazon that is water resistant, has a lot more insulation than my USGI poncho liner. As well as being a garment that works on its own and under my poncho when it’s cold, it also has snaps and a zip for conversion to a sleeping bag when the drawstring is cinched up on end, and the hood’s drawstring is cinched up, which positions itself at bum height. The level of insulation makes it a good 2 to 3 season bag, and I just got back after another 3 week camping holiday in September using it (in a dome tent). Nighttime temps got down to about 6 to 7C and I was fine kipping with a T shirt and some long underwear. Put more clothing on and I reckon it’ll be reasonable for lower C to -C conditions. Only £30 and in olive green
Looks Awesome buddy.. I’ve just ordered same bivi … cheers Chris
Enjoy bud
@@chrisoutdoors82 cheers buddy

Stick a daypack or rocket pouch down inside the foot end to lift it off you a bit and reduce angle sharpness 🤘
Thanks bud I do usually stick my pack in there just before sleeping 👍
Niceone
Could you maybe do something with some thin fibreglass kite poles, in the hood hem, to create a shape?
The easiest thing I've seen is a pool noodle lol
@@chrisoutdoors82 quite light, but thick.
The DPM seems much better to hide in than the MTP versions I've seen. I've got a bendy plastic hoop which I've melted flat at the bottom so it is a semi circle to keep the bivi off my face.
Totally agree with the dpm over mtp
i would ditch the tarp and put a but under and clamp bivvy to it, also I would add a midge net
Brilliant, but ive got ask. Will i need a tarp underneath, or is it ok to go straight on the grass? Only im trying to keep weight down where i can.
The Gore-Tex bags are highly effective on their own. It is advisable to maintain a low weight. Please inform me of your progress.
@@chrisoutdoors82 thanks for answering, I will do 👍
I've not used a bivvy, I can imagine it could be a rough night with solid rain and wind. My biggest concern would be living in Australia I would wake up during the night with a wombat, kangaroo and an Eastern Taipan Snake all curled up on top of me.
Or most definitely buddy, the British army DPM bivvy is very basic I can't use it in summer due to the mosquitos, there is plenty of bivvys with bug nets built in now and if you don't mind the wieght you guys pioneered the swag.
@@chrisoutdoors82 I don't camp very often, I usually camp at a dedicated camp ground so I can have everything in the back of my car, I think it has rained every time I've set my tent up, it's quite cosy laying in the tent listening to the rain. 😊
@@jonnywaselectric it's very therapeutic
Didn't guys used to sleep in swags back in the day, that would be a similar problem I suppose. I noticed that nowadays what you call a swag in Aus is actually a hooped bivvy with mozzy netting on the front.
@@chrisoutdoors82 You can use it with a mozzy net. See this vid at around 11minutes czcams.com/video/Szpeeyr7eJQ/video.html
I was thinking of taking an umbrella with me on a camping trip, to protect my head,Any suggestion,!!!!!?????🤔
I would say the GOSSAMER GEAR or MONTBELL buddy
What name of those black clips?
Tarp clips buddy, then add a paracord loop
Interesting, but the rave music, it does nothing but annoy.
🇬🇧🤙🫡
Its all about being sexy 😅
@@roughwalkers lol I wasn't feeling it at -2°
@@chrisoutdoors82 hahaha i know the feeling iv been out in -15 in scotland with similar to this set up in the army
I deffo didnt feel sexy hahahha
@roughwalkers jesus that is cold bud, I bet even the midges keep wrapped up in that weather
@@chrisoutdoors82 wasnt that bad through the day but doing night patrols was baltic trying to clean your weapon when you cant feel your hands isnt good ... i used them heat pads you can get on cheap
Awful irritating background music and so unnecessary
A bit like your non constructive comment 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Oh well... wait till you see ours
I see your idea, but you would need to be a contortionist to get in and out of that!
It's not that bad bud
