Good video! Just a correction: we beat all 2015 levels in over half a year, not a year and a half. We did find some leftover 2015 levels later, but the goal was pretty much completed in August 2018.
Neat project! It warms my heart that, if successful, every single person that created a level for Mario Maker will have had their level played and cleared by at least one other person. No entirely lost creativity!
I was just thinking the same thing! Its heartwarming to know at least one person out there has "enjoyed" all the Mario Maker levels I made when I was 14.

Joined the server a few days ago and I LOVE the idea of this project. Already found time to clear a few levels in my busy life! Good luck to all of us, we got this!
It's honestly unfair that a game you have to pay money for is going to become almost completely unplayable, I mean they didn't tell us this when we bought the game!
Unfortunately, they probably do it somewhere in the very fine print. Tangentially, that’s one of the reasons I don’t buy digital copies of games when I can help it - legally they’re allowed to just yoink it no matter what I paid.
It's not just this game. All online servers for 3DS and Wii U are going to shut down, shutting down games like splatoon and smash bros. It's because they don't want to fund something they don't make money off of. It's like giving money to a subscription service that gives you nothing in return (except for happy players, but nintendo is known for choosing money over their users.)
It would be amazing to get some SMM1 gods back, for example Thabeast721, fast, KingBoo97, JC. Beating 100% of the levels would then feel much more within reach.
God forbid Nintendo shells out extra money to keep their online services for people who still play these consoles and handhelds, it's not like they're a billion dollar company or anything. Fingers crossed and hoping you all reach this goal.
ive got it, if tons of people buy more nintendo products and games they will make more profit, and maybe just maybe, they would keep support for older consoles
@@RRamens It's not because they can't fund these old servers, it's because they don't want to. They don't see a point in cutting off a bit of their revenue stream just to support some consoles most people don't touch anymore anyway.
It's not always a question of money, but of space. Nintendo is a Japanese company, who are notoriously very stubborn in their ways. There may be ultra-specific criteria that they use to determine whether or not they'll utilize a server system, or they may insist on keeping it all in-house (which many JP companies are also notorious for doing). This means that even with all the money in the world, there may just not be the resources that Nintendo wants out there, which puts a hard limit on how much they can distribute at a given time. Money helps, but it can't buy off an executive being a stubborn old goat. That is generally a good thing, but in Nintendo's case it hurts the consumer long-term.
@@JeanneDGames I'm not even sure it's their stereotypical old-fashionedness over tech, but more their airtight protectiveness of their biggest IP. They don't always keep it all in-house but when they let another company work on a game with the plumber, Nintendo is REALLY strict with what they're allowed to do. I imagine that even extends to server upkeep. They don't want another giga-leak (a little different as that was internal, probably happened because of how old they prefer their tech) and handing that job off to someone for cheap extends a lot of liability to another party.
I hadn’t heard of the announcement until this video appeared in my recommended, and I’m feeling a lot of emotions. The Wii U and 3DS were a huge source of comfort in my high school years. This last bit of support for them coming to a close is a huge blow even though I don’t use them much anymore.

Maybe my efforts will save some top players a bit of precious time in the future, so they can focus their efforts on the next "Last Dance", whatever that may be! Every bit counts, right?
@@user-zr1is1ke9y sure you can still create levels in the game but can't publish them since like 2 years now and soon you won't even be able to access levels online anymore. Good thing there's smm2 still though

The problem with clearing uncleared levels is that at least in mario maker 2 where the game is still kinda alive, a first clear can kill the level reaching/attracting further players. This mostly applies only if the level is obscure and hard, and it's sad if the level could have been viewed as really good by some people. This is bc those levels still get booed a lot by little timmies (bc obscure and hard), and when it's uncleared, ppl try to clear it which boosts the level in search algorithms, and after first clear that incentive is gone and the little timmy boo ratio rises, killing the level. To combat this, if you find a really good/unique level like this that could easily get killed by little timmies, you could try sharing the level around. Don't tell only to people who hunt first clears, share it in a larger community.
I think its important to say that most of the levels getting cleared in SMM2 by the 0% team are older levels, many of which the creators probably don't care about anymore. Many of them quit the game after a year or so, so it being recommended to other people barely matters.
Note: There is also a smm2 side for clearing uncleared levels, in fact, only about 3k uncleared 2019 levels remain in smm2, so if you are someone who doesn’t have mario maker 1 then you could still help on the smm2 side of things, it’s just not as important rn because online for 2 won’t be going away anytime soon :)

My question is: is there a Mario Maker wiki or something where we can see WHAT levels have already been completed? I wanna see if my levels are on there
There’s something so weird about how entire online games/services could simply shutdown after a few years due to money complications. In the flip of a switch, all the memories you’ve made from something could just disappear! It will happen to all online games someday, no matter how obscure or big, like living things. I hope that official archives and approved private servers of online services will be normalized someday. (except WoW, seems like humanity will die out centuries later and those servers would STILL somehow be maintained)
Damn, this isn't unexpected but I'm still sad to hear that the servers are shutting down. I haven't played in years, but I remember some of my favorite levels quite well. It was a series of puzzle levels called "Thinking Time", made by a particular user who's name I can't remember. They aren't nearly as popular as many of the other levels, and I sometimes wonder if the person who made them remembers them, but they were really fun and it's always the first thing I think of when I think of this game. I'm glad the original game lets you download the levels, so I could archive them. UNFORTUNATELY, my dusty ass wii U that I haven't touched in years shut down while I was updating it so I could connect to the network. I believe it overheated, probably due to a dusty or even bad fan, but I do not have the right screwdriver necessary to open it up and find out.
Just google "nintendo screwdriver", they use the same propriatory shit on all their consoles so finding them for cheap on amazon is (ironically) very easy. You can also try sticking a vacuum cleaner up its arse and turning it on. I did that for laptops a lot back in the day.
Welp a small life time of watching others play 😊 it was fun watching them. I do hope that the teams will have that chance to complete the levels before it ends ❤
Under 500 announcement just came out. This video made me dust out my Wii U, I cleared like 3 or 4 baby levels, but thinking I might have been part of it if they make it makes me so happy

For me personally, I care about Nintendo's developers and employees, but disrespect their DMCA legal team in Japan. But the one problem I have with the community is if you blame Nintendo as a whole, You're dragging in its developers and employees with it considering the fact they have absolutely nothing to do with those decisions. My question is: is there a Mario Maker wiki or something where we can see WHAT levels have already been completed? I wanna see if my levels are on there
We did it bois🎉🎉🎉
I dont play mario maker but i like what you're doing here, I hope this is a success! Good luck! :)
This was done in april 2024
Everyone working together to beat the game, sounds like some kind of anime power of friendship kind of stuff.
Totally a Shonen anime protag kind of "power of friendship" plot armor. Which isn't a bad thing.
@@zigazav1 Kinda cliche in shows, actually epic in the real world...
Gonna hop on and beat tons of levels, I love this idea! It's a great sendoff to the Wii U/Mario Maker 1.
little timmy levels on super mario maker 1 will now be considered lost media since nobody wants to do those
Honestly I’m hoping fans can come up with a way to continue to play these games online like how they did with the Wii and Wiimfi
Pretendo
What about community-based level servers? Or is that only a thing for SMM2?
but... what _is_ an uncleared level?
we've hired a team of youtube commenters to gaslight you into thinking you already knew the answer
you already know what it is
are you INSANE AND/OR CRAZY? you already know what an uncleared level is
Uncleared levels are levels not beaten by anyone ever.
@@ShinySkink9185besides the creator themselves ofc, right?
I really hope you will succeed!!! Good luck guys!!!
I really hope that there are projects that are backing up all the Mario Maker levels.
Does the 3DS version count as clearing them? It was always a strange port of the game...
It does count but there is no search function for the 3ds version. You would have to play 100 man and hope to pull an uncleared level there.
Imagine if they dropped Trials of death 2 last sec
Havent been able to upload levels for over 2 years.
Mario Maker 1 will forever be in my heart. Rip you underated game
I honestly really wish I could help but best of luck to the people doing this
But what are uncleared levels?
Levels that havent been completed
you know the worst part? all those games that rely heavilly on online features are just gonna be broken, unplayable. not just mario maker.
The sad reality of gaming services, gone in no time.
Bring back splitscreen multiplayer
i'm gonna miss splatoon 1 and kart 8
oh um sure- I’ll try and do it.
I will absolutely help with this!
Imagine if Trial of Death got uploaded and had to be cleared 💀
Choco can do it. I believe in him.
@@andrewface2355 the delusion is crazy
@@Ascension721 Choco is insane though. He's probably the player with the highest skill ceiling when it comes to difficulty, and he recently uploaded the current hardest SMM2 level which he spent years on and poured in over a thousand hours, so he's no stranger to long grinds.
But what even is an uncleared level?
A level, which nobody has, well, cleared. (Apart from the actual uploader)
@@Ascension721 that makes sense, but did you get that checked with a team of scientists?
Well done guys!
i remember back then i actually completed a 0% level. i had only been 12 so i was actually mindblown.
EVERYONE PLEASE! LETS DO THIS!!
I assume Mario Maker 2 will still be working online.... Right?
Yes, of course
Yeah, until they shut it down too, at least.
This sounds like a lot of fun, I actually think I might join up. I haven’t played Mario Maker 1 or 2 in years though.
If we all band together, we can make it 26,000 😊
Shoutout me fr
This Just seems like an Extra Knife Twist
after Dropping the 3ds
shutting the down the E-Shop
and Making it so the 3DS isnt as easy to Mod
It's still pretty easy to mod
I’m here to support it I just beat 20 levels in a day
Good luck beating those levels
Nintendo once again proving they are the most anticonsumer company out there, but people still cannot get over "EA is bad".
While it's lousy toxic complainers from the negativity Nintendo hate train proceed to Weaponize Iwata's death, harassing and attacking casual gamers for enjoying tears of the kingdom on switch hardware and enjoying it, supporting the toxic smash community with a bunch of lousy 35-year-old neck beards that cry over a stupid 21-year-old game and are p3dos and pr3dators behind the scenes, Wishing Shigeru Miyamoto is gone or dead all because of story changes that I'm Sure not every casual player is completely interested in, blaming splatoon 3 developers, sending Sakurai death threats over DLC, bomb threaten Nintendo HQ over Gary Bowser and believing misinformation that Nintendo assassinates or kills anyone who is named Mario or any of their which is truthfully not real. For me personally, I care about Nintendo's developers and employees, but disrespect their DMCA legal team in Japan. But the one problem I have with the community is if you blame Nintendo as a whole, You're dragging in its developers and employees with it considering the fact they have absolutely nothing to do with those decisions.
The Nintendo negativity toxic hate train needs to be exposed to the public along with the delusional Super Smash Bros community, There's a good reason why a bunch of casual/ respectful Nintendo fans are absolutely sick of the Nintendo hate story.
As one of the 7 people who had a wii u there’s been like 3 new games worth playing on the switch imo
@@tankmchavocproductions6907 well obviously the switch is better, I'm saying that as a Wii U owner of my own
@@M64bros I disagree, i miss miiverse and all the other fun stuff the wii u had to offer
@@tankmchavocproductions6907 Same, Yes, it's really frustrating indeed but unfortunately things don't last forever and not just Nintendo but also Xbox is closing it's 360 store as well Since online servers cost and charge money for video game company's. Unfortunately some video game servers won't last forever.
However, thanks to the modding community, we can be able to relive those memories thankfully.
And we can thank wiimmfi for that
i'm 100% sure that at the last minute of the game closing some random dude will post a shity level that can't be beaten in under a minute and ruin everyone work
new levels haven't been able to be added for like several years, if I'm not mistaken.
@@darkychao You're not.
There was someone who spent over 3kk hours on one level I believe, and he finally beat it as of recently.
He couldn't even upload it, sadly
@@darkychao oh both good and bad news
Lol. If people could still upload levels this'd be sisyphean task regardless of how difficult they made the levels.
@@Irreve-rsible ChainChompBraden did upload Trials of Death but with a dev route since he didn't get the clear check before the upload deadline, so i'm sure it has a clear by now.
Damn, even my courses are played. This is cool!
I opened mario maker on wiiu, pulled up the list from the discord and first cleared 3 levels because of this video.
RIP Mario Maker. 2015-2024. I never played it, but I know it made SO many memories.
This reminds me of the MGS5 community attempting the impossible of disarming ALL nukes
I never had the money to buy Mario Maker 1 back in the day. I was in middleschool/highschool during the heyday and I really never got to experience Mario Maker 1 outside of a friend who had it occasionally letting me play it with him. Proud of you guys though. Hope you finish it.
I made a stupid unfair troll level a couple years back and I wanna say sorry to whoever has to beat that
I lack the skill or the tools, but i will spread the ideals to thouse who can try. Godspeed.
Honestly hearing about this makes me feel so happy that someone out there has played and cleared my level. (I’m sure people cleared them when I first released them, But it’s the thought that counts)
Dang someone really played my level poop from like 7 years ago on purpose LETS GOOO
Preserve as many levels as you can!!!
i had a copy of mario maker 1 but it got sold in an estate sale a couple weeks ago so im considering getting it again
I will definitely get out my Wii U and try to knock out a few non-challenging levels this weekend.
I have fond memory’s with Mario Maker 1. It’s sad that the WiiU and 3Ds are coming to a close, but I’m glad to see the community coming together to have some fun.
RIP MARIO MAKER BEGGED FOR YOU AND A 3DS FOR AGES AND FINALLY GOT YOU ONLY TO PLAY IT FOR 1-2 YEARS BEFORE GETTING A SWITCH YOU WILL HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART
