- In this video we look at one of the largest commercial failures in McDonald’s history, the Arch Deluxe.
Made to compete against Burger Kings “Whopper”, the Arch Deluxe was marketed as a more grown up burger with a sophisticated taste. It all unraveled after that.
Watch and see how the Arch Deluxe was made with the largest amount of care, only for it to be forgotten within a couple of years.

I used to get these all the time when I went to McDonald’s. I remember going in one day and not seeing it in the menu but still asking if I could have one. When she said they didn’t make them anymore I was gutted and heartbroken.
This was me in 1999. I went in to my local store and asked they guy for my Arch Deluxe and he said it's no longer on the menu. I told him i ordered it all the time and he said, "so you're the one." Gutted and heartbroken too.
I was 11 when the Arch Deluxe came out. To this day it’s still my favorite burger from McD’s. The QP w/C is second.
Agreed. It was my fav burger too. Absolutely crushed me when they got rid of it. That and the bucket of fries you could buy. 🙁
The Arch Deluxe looks delicious! They should definitely bring it back! They need to give it the right approach in advertising.
I really wish they would! Just no “grown up sandwich” or have it represented by some no talent hot at the moment rapper this time and it may be a success these days 😂
I remember trying an Arch Deluxe when I was 16 years old. I thought it was great! And then I never saw it again. 🍔
same! the rare times i've liked a fast food burger, it's always discontinued shortly after. i actually really liked the Mclean Deluxe as a kid too.

It was an awesome burger from what I remember. My mom used to take me after my soccer games on Saturday lol after all that running around that burger sure hit the spot
This burger was my favorite growing up in the 90s. Now at almost 40, I still hope it can make a comeback so my taste buds can rejoice. 😌
I hope they do at some point! Given that many places are marketing towards nostalgia, I’ll say the burger has a fighting chance on coming back!

During sophomore year I worked in the late 90s at McDonalds. Sauce was awesome, I usually put it in the double cheeseburger, no ketchup

I remember the commercials of kids being disgusted by the Arch Deluxe. I'd like to know what idiot came up with that idea for marketing a product you wanted to sell, because it sure backfired! As for the burger itself, it was actually very delicious and one of the only decent food items McDonald's had on its menu.
Arch deluxe was my favorite fast food burger of all time. Loved the peppered bacon patty with sauce and ketchup. Used to order 2 of these every visit.😋 😋 😋

I loved these so much back in the day. That sauce and bacon was amazing. They should bring them back even if it's just for a limited time.
This came out when I was 14, and I actually loved it. I wonder how much McDonald's shot themselves in the foot by saying kids would hate it. They should have done the opposite: claimed that it was so good, kids would be begging to "grow up faster" in so they could order it.
This came out when I was almost 18. Personally, I actually loved it. I would get the arch deluxe with at the time supersize fries and a Coke.
I remember eating and loving the arch deluxe as a kid. I was then out with a group ordered some food and I got the arch deluxe and some other kids doing that yuck face at it. Subconsciously I then didn't want it any more. I then remember kids saying it had vomit in it. But I remember thinking it was really good and different from the normal stuff.
It had to of been the advertisement scheme that killed itself.
Leave it to some kids to tell you that there's barf on your burger!
I don’t care what anybody says…the arch deluxe was one of the best burgers…I miss the Cajun mcchicken as well…so 🔥

I found the commercials to be insulting. I think this was a radio ad: The father was taking his adult son to McDonald's. Now they can both enjoy a grown up meal. I interpret this as saying that McDonald's was previously serving kids meals.
Yeah, the marketing campaign for this sandwich is something someone should have never done, how stupid of an idea it was.

Idiotic marketing. Both that kids hate it and that it was premium. It was a pretty good burger, it didn't need to be treated like a foofy, fancy burger.
In Europe it is still available under the name Royale Deluxe and I really don't like it: the mustardey sauce is the culprit

Well, let’s just say at this same time there was a promotion ran to buy two Big Macs for $2. Double cheeseburgers were 89 cents and so on.

Arch deluxe was good
at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buffet.
