- Genshin Impact first released September 28, 2020 and since then there has been a lot of content updates to the game. For someone who has never played the game before, what should you expect? This video aims to answer that question.

Short answer - Yes.
Long answer - It depends on why you are playing the game and how much patience you have and if it's OK with you to have missed events. If you are playing for the lore of the game, then YES - no matter when you start, you will experience the full lore of Genshin. If you find waiting for characters bearable, then yes. All characters will have a rerun, event mechanics will have a rerun (though there are some events that won't - so the rewards for those will be forever lost - I want Festering Desire...)
Event stories are canon so just find some summaries online or a playthrough
Im fighting to get event items obtainable for newer players and those who missed out so maybe someday soon you can get them too
Otherwise good story fun gameplay
Community is all over the place right now but besides Twitter generally is pretty ok
Music is top tier
World is beautiful and diverse with each region
F2p or welkin battle pass is best though don't recommend spending much
Play at your own pace and enjoy all of the stories
Alot of world quest are hidden gems because of a lack of voice-over

There are ideas to revive events for everyone who lost them but of course hoyo don't listen to their own people so why even bother making this game stay fresh forever.

If you consider that most F2P players have modest expectations to be able to clear all the content in the game and not to hoard all the characters, then Genshin is very F2P friendly. A new player can expect within their first year to have ~40 characters. That's a huge roster and a hella grind to even build and level all of 'em up.

Hoarding characters isn't primary thing in Genshin, this is RPG exploration game bro and not some card or gacha game. The other thing is that content creators pushed audience into that direction and wrong thinking when valuing and understanding Genshin gameplay.

as for the Free to play friendliness, I agree if the aim is to collect as much characters and weapons as possible, yeah it's not(to hell with weapon banner lmao) . But if we talk for clearing contents, it's pretty friendly, any team can clear overworld, so you can pull for anyone. And if you wanna be abyss enjoyer, at least the 4* are strong backbones

Started around October last year, have been hooked and loving the game. I was worried about starting it late but aside from old events being gone as my one disappointment, there's just so much amazing and fun content to go through. Just finally hit Fontaine after hundreds of hours
The experience as you go through the story quests and experience new, different regions is like none other. The Fontaine storyline is really good too so I’m sure you’ll love it!

Yoimiya isn't bad by any means, she's just compared to the grand pyro overlord Hu Tao who has one of the most overpowered DPS kits in the entire game. She's still much better than Diluc and Klee, the lack of true AoE makes her less useful against hoards of enemies, but she clears Boss heavy Abyss floors with competitive times to other 5 star Main DPS units. Her team comps are light spender or even F2P friendly with some of her best teammates being Xingqiu, Fischl, Bennett and Yunjin, all 4 star units. Even with half-baked builds I have never had any issue clearing abyss with Yoimiya, I play her and C2 Hu Tao interchangeably.
Yun jin needs to be C6 it's sad hoyo had to lock some 4 stars best cons at c6 and with Arlechino coming up next as a pyro dps yoi miya gonna get another power creeped
Sorry but Yoimiya is better than Hu Tao. Actually the problem is that low rate players compare incomparible things. Every character has its purpose and targets. Not all can do everything. It's obvious that such character as Yoimiya is the best for single target opponents and bosses, while Hu Tao lacks consistency and requires good team.

Yoi is top tier. I wouldnt know how to play carefree after leaving Inazuma to Sumeru without her. I dont know why such low rate players destroy Genshin's image with wrong promo content.
Short answer: prereg to WuWa.
I just started a 2nd account (to build characters I can't on my main lol) - and it kinda feels like I'm a new player again - the struggle between lvl 20-45 when you have crap artifacts is still real BUT you can walk all the way to Fontaine and unlock almost everything now which is awesome! You can do world quests from any area before you reach those places in the main story which gives you tons of resources/exp.
So new players can level up way faster than veterans - which also means, don't waste your time building an "early game" team with serious investment because within weeks you'll already be at the point of needing endgame teams instead. (also, ignore most character/build guides before dendro and now Fontaine were added because they are outdated lol)
So 4*s worth the investment in early-late game are: Bennett, Xiangling, Xingqiu, fischl - and now Chevreusse if you pull on current banner - as they are endgame characters that won't waste materials whereas most other 4*'s have a better 5* option.
PLUS for new players, Neuvillette and Furina will rerun soon and they are the most insane characters as their power level means you can use any 4*s until you get better ones - then that frees you up to collect other characters that take more work but you might like more (also reaction based teams like hyperbloom are easier to build than hypercarries so as a new player, hypercarries are a great project with a long term view in mind, but reaction based quick swap will get you into enjoying battle content faster).
I agree that there isn't really a sense of "catching up" - even the limited event weapons that you have missed out on are not SO insane that it is a huge loss, there are plenty of other good options. I actually only started 10 months ago and missing a couple years content hasn't held me back (other than artifacts lol)
Just play Star Rail lol, at least they care about their community

Genshin as other high quality RPG games are great for those who like such content - exploring, adventuring, various combat styling, grinding and building teams, lore seekers, or just scenery and music enthusiasts. To also bring out that ALL gaming content is for free is the thing that any real gamer should just jump in. Even teapot is free and we can build our realm as we want.
As for banners and 5* pullung gacha system - also side thing for gacha lovers, even if it's not main thing for this game.
It's as you start any other game and decide if you like and not gamestyle etc. Why asking this rudiculous question?😂
Just buy genshin account with good character selections and watch story on youtube...
