    I used the 2.5 car kit

    I did this about ten years ago to my garage. It’s time to do it again. I will definitely give it a second coat this time around. You did a good job.

    • @JonaHanz-u2hix
      @JonaHanz-u2hix Před 5 lety

      If you do two coats, apply a thin first coat without anti-slip additive. Add the anti-slip additive to the second coat and make a thicker coat. It gives a more uniform and compact finish if you roll the epoxy a second time after about three minutes. I've been doing these epoxy works for almost 10 years being the building maintenance guy of Mercedes Benz of Honolulu.

    hey man looks good. im wanting to do this in my three car garage. so when you say 2 coats. do you add the anti slip to both coats or only to your second coat? also do you have to scuff up first coat before putting down second coat?

    • @code3imagination441
      @code3imagination441  Před 5 lety

      From what I have read you only need to add the anti slip to your top coat, and you can apply the second coat after your first.

    So your recommendation is to put one coat down, let it dry, then do the second coat? So the flakes should be applied liberally on the second coat?

      +dnewman83815 it has help up better then I thought. Now granted I only have one car in the garage because my truck does not fit and only store the vehicle in the winter.
      I do know it won't last after talking to others. On avg it may start to chip after five years so another coat will fix that. Have to say for what I paid it was worth it. At my fire station we got the professional epoxy floor and if you look at the two they look the same.

    Nice work. Just have a question about the anti-skid additive kits. In which step that you add this into the epoxy? How was it?

    • @code3imagination441
      @code3imagination441  Před 3 lety

      Apply the anti skid to the last coat you are going to apply. Mix it in to the epoxy after you mixed the two parts together. It gives the floor a light sand feel to it. Not so much you will get cut up if you fall on it but enough to allow some friction when walking on. If you don’t apply this then when the floor get wet, loot out someone will have an accident.

    • @code3imagination441

      if you rub your hand on the floor can feel them, but keep in mind I also added the anti slip additive to the mix. If you don't add that to it once wet it is like ice to walk on, totally unsafe.

    How many gallons of Muriatic acid did you need for 2.5 garage ? What brand you used ?

      Arun Dhavani-Mallan I got two gallons, that were diluted with water and had a little left over if I remember correctly. As to what brand it was, I can not remember but I picked it up at Home Depot.
      So you have a two car garage, the two car garage kit will cover that but I would recommend you get enough to put two coats on. What I used covered, but I can see in spots where one of our cars sits is showing some wear.

      branden agbunag it’s an epoxy. Not like an epoxy you would use to fix a broken coffee mug. But if compared to standard latex paint it is much thinner.
      I know the product says you only need one coat, but I would recommend applying two coats.

  • @kamesenLBC
    @kamesenLBC Před 5 lety +1

    Not sure what to think. The instructions for this product state specifically not to use muriatic acid. In addition, you used a latex based product to fill in your concrete transitions. Latex shrinks over time and has flex even when new. You don't want either of those characteristics under your epoxy coat. A 2-part epoxy crack filler would have been the proper choice.

    • @code3imagination441
      @code3imagination441  Před 5 lety +1

      kamesenLBC now I wish I remembered the brand of calk I used. It was recommended by several professionals to use before applying the epoxy. As of today have had no shrinkage or pull away from my calked lines. The epoxy has held up great after a couple of cold and hot seasons. Only have one small mistake. Spilled some gas (about six months after applying) and it did eat a little bit of this epoxy.

    • @code3imagination441
      @code3imagination441  Před 5 lety +1

      kamesenLBC I don’t know if you can see it, but I used a pencil to mark where the door rested on the concrete. I taped off the line after I flushed, dried, and cleaned off the floor.
      Also this was a new concrete slab, that was another reason it was suggested to me by a professional to use the acid to ruff up the floor a little so the epoxy would better adhere to the concrete.

    How bad are the fumes from the muriatic acid, do they get into the house during application?

    • @code3imagination441
      @code3imagination441  Před 5 lety

      The fumes are horrible, but never left the garage. My home is in a area where we usually have a steady breeze so that helped out. You need to get a chemical mask so you don’t breath in the fumes. With the door closed nothing got into the house.
      I once used it in an older house to scrub a basement. I had a suit mask and all the PPE required. Also used a large positive pressure fan(outside) to help push the fumes out a basement window. Muriatic acid is a nasty chemical but useful at the same time. Make sure you follow all safety warnings and use the correct PPE when using this product.
