For everyone saying "the song is only cowritten" by Katy Perry... just so you know, she writes 90% of the lyrics and has one or two people help her finalize the song when it comes to word choices and small things. All of her songs are inspired and written by her. It's like saying in "Firework" when she says "baby you're a firework.." they helped her choose "baby you're A firework" instead of "baby you're THE firework." The whole Teenage Dream album came right out from HER diary... Please don't take credit away from her when it's very well deserved.
You can look at her albums and study the track list. There you will see that there are only a few out of many songs that she laid a pen's ink on.

To those who are doubting her songwriting talent, Y’all clearly haven’t seen the lyrics for songs like I’m Still Breathing, Brick By Brick, Playing House, A Cup Of Coffee and actually a lot of songs from her first album like Thinking Of You and Lost...these were written SOLELY by Katy Perry and the lyrics are so heartfelt and pure and incredibly reflective. Y’all just don’t wanna admit that she is a gifted songwriter. Just because she became super mainstream and successful in pop doesnt mean she isn’t an amazing songwriting talent.

Katy's old sound (One of the Boys) was actually pretty great, her sound now.. is okay, it's just the same as every other pop song. Her original music had a bit of a rock-ish sound to it (you can argue that was because that was popular at the time she debuted but this list shows says otherwise). Her first album is probably the only one I like from her.
I love the first album the most out of the rest of her albums too. I think it echoes her true persona the most and it's lovely :)

Have you ever heard of the expression "change a word, take a third" this is a commonly used phrase in this business, and refers to the artists who have songs written for them, yet most commonly when they are in the recording stage of the song, the artist will want to change a word or two just because they know that doing that entitles them to taking a large sum of the royalties earned on the song..

Bands and artists in genres that aren't necessarily in the charts are the people that will tend to write their own songs.. So basically the people you would expect..
