  • First steam charter this year, thanks to lockdown!
The start of a private 6 day charter for Mr Hosking and friends.
The first leg, Crewe to Carmarthen.
Seen at Crewe, as the train is prepared and then setting off.
First off is Black5 , 45231 The Sherwood Forester, with D8017 (20107) tucked in for insurance (and turned out to save the day).
Next, the unsung hero 'ZIPPY' (D3948) brings the ECS out of the shed, as Mr Hosking and friends, head off platform 12 to the diesel depot.
The train is then seen reversing into Crewes platform 12., before departing for Carmarthen.
Unfortunately the Black 5 only made it as far as LLandeilo, where, so I beleive,, due to having to make an emergency brake application because of **** ing STUPID idiot trespassers on the line, suffered wheel flats and was declared failed, so the 20 took the train on, and the couple of 37s were sent earlier than planned, to assist.

Thanks Kev. Not tried platform 1 before, for fear of getting bowled, but it seemed safe to try today.

You need patience for all that shunting, but you got there in the end! Very nice, Phil.

Great video Phil. As much as I love seeing the charter trains running again. I cant help feel it must be nice to own your own full size train set and go wherever you like ignoring the Covid regulations on crossing borders and essential journeys.

Thanks Rick. Well they can't be accused of not social distancing! 😂! Not seen John's yet? Not a shame, annoying, shame the driver didn't hit them at full pelt...., but that might have damaged 45231s paintwork 😂

Phil Clarke I think that's the problem nothing goes on in their minds. I was at Welham Green a few years ago to see a steam special and a chap in his sixties walked past those of us on the platform and started to walk down the up slow line on the ECML, a number of us challenged him and eventually he came back and gave us all a load of abuse about who did we think we were and he used to do it all the time in the sixties completely missing the point that you can't hear modern trains coming as you used to with them running on welded track and the fact that they are travelling anything up to 40 mph faster and the power units themselves are very much quieter and these new Azuma trains are quieter still.

@@philclarke3203 everything is running normally now, steam is still at Llandeilo and the 20 back at Crewe. Apparently as the roads are hard to navigate around Crewe as it is, let alone a lorry with a steam engine and tender in the back, they are going to get it on a lorry back to Shrewsbury and then somethings coming to pick it up there and tow it back to Crewe. That’s the latest I heard but that was late Friday night
