  • I've "recently" unlocked my double C's, and thought I would give this tune a shot. I am not normally able to play this one all the way through, but this day was one of those days where everything just feels right in the embouchure.
    Hope you enjoy :)

    • @Jeppe805
      @Jeppe805  Před 8 měsíci +14

      I'm thinking of making a video with tips at some point,
      but here are some things that helped me a lot:
      - Experiment with it. Keep trying different techniques,
      no exercise in the world will help you unless you change something fundamentally.
      Wayne Bergeron has a good mindset on this: "On the trumpet you don't build range, you discover it".
      The same goes with sound, endurance etc..
      - Watch videos. There are hours and hours of material on the net.
      I recommend watching all the videos with Wayne Bergeron, Bobby Shew etc.. (Or whomever you wish to sound like)
      I've probably watched close to 100 hours, if not more, of trumpet basics on youtube.
      - Listen more than you play. If you can imagine the sound that you want,
      then it will be easier to copy that sound. So listen ALOT. Like 10x more than you play.
      I've played classical music all my life, and only within the last two years have
      I worked on becoming a Lead Jazz Player. So sound quality has always been important to me.
      - Keep relaxed when you play, the only tension in your body should be your diaphragm.
      Hope it helps, good luck :)

    Hey, I was looking at your at the position of the embouchure on your lips, and you seem to playing high on the lower lip. I find that it helps me, but I sometimes feel like I have less control, how did you figure out what worked for you?

    • @Jeppe805
      @Jeppe805  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, I try to have as much upper lip in the piece as possible, as the upper lip is responsible for the vibrations. The lower lip is pretty much only to keep the mouthpiece in place and so is less important. I used to have more lower lip than upper lip, but my endurance was bad because of it. Just experiment with it, you probably will get less control in the start because it's unfamiliar, but if you if focus your attention on keeping the upper lip as relaxed as possible, you'll see results eventually :)
      If it's difficult in the beginning to use less pressure on your upper lips, try this: When you feel pressure on your lips, make ALL of the pressure go to your lower lips. Later you can focus on not using too much pressure on both lips. I still do this to some degree, If I've been playing a long gig, I begin to feel it in my lower lips long before my upper lips.

    Spectacular high C at the beginning. How do u practice for that?

    • @Jeppe805
      @Jeppe805  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you! I practice my C the same way I've practiced every other note. In the start I "force" myself to get it out just so my brain knows what I'm looking for. When I eventually can play the note (but do it with too much Compression and a small mouth opening) I then start to practice my effeciency. A combination of experimenting with exactly how little compression I need to do, and seeing how big my embouchure should be. I do this octave slurs and with arpeggios, and before doing that I use a pencil and put it between my lips to find the right size opening. I give it a couple a shots a day, but when I begin to feel tired I stop. There likely is better methods, but I find that this method works best for me currently. Hope it helps :)

    It was clean but wouldn’t be usable in a gig scenario, there was no meat or power behind it. It would never be heard over the band. You need to have a fast and powerful airstream if you’re going to get any zip or zing in the horn. Make sure you work on your swing too, the legit training is poking through and it seems stiff and square at times. No matter how high you can play, you won’t be hired if you can’t swing. All constructive criticism. Keep working at it, listen to greats like Bill Chase, Jerry Hey, Maynard, Pete and Conte Candoli. Wayne and Shew are great but think about who they learned from and who inspired them. Best of luck.

      Dude he's in his house😂 obviously he's not going to be playing like he's lead in a big band. Neighbors exist. His swing sounds fine too😂 I don't think he was asking for assistance and he's obviously at least a decent trumpet if he's hitting double C above the staff. Give credit where credit is due

      Lmao not every lead player has to be loud edgy and obnoxious. Maynard and all those other big names are great but they really just blast (which makes sense) but that doesn’t mean every lead has to. On top of that he’s in his house… don’t think his neighbors would appreciate that 😂

    • @jamesbanks5597
      @jamesbanks5597 Před 4 měsíci +5

      I think the "zing" you're referring too is actually a lack of tone :) and he seems to be playing plenty loud. I think any jazz director would love this guy. You don't have to be heard 5 miles away to be a good lead player. I said what I said. A piccolo flute player is ALWAYS heard over a whole orchestra. It's just the range man, you don't have to add much more volume to be heard, you can actually play quiet and still be heard that high.
      I bet you watch TRUMPETSIZZLE
