no need to remove the safety clip when installing the new ones, just pop them in. good diy by the way
Man this hole time I thought the trunk on this damn car was just lazy to open. Now I see the shock are bad. Thanks
dowboykfx470 but after the swap does just pushing the trunk button on the key open it or du you have to lift?
dowboykfx470 Me too.
@@kexy you would need to install a spring if you want it to "pop" open with the key. With the new shocks, you have to lift the trunk about 5 inches and it goes up on it's own from there.
Justin Buice what kind of springs? any recommendations?
Simple yet very informative. Thanks JB.
The quality of your videos, both cinematographically and informatively, just keeps increasing. Very nice to see, Justin! Keep on 😁
Perfect timing, I was seriously planning on doing this soon so thanks for the video 😬
Just used your instructions to do my BMW tailgate. Went like a charm. Thank you!
Thanks so much! I definitely need to replace them. So glad to know it is this easy to do.
Spring clip only has to be shifted/removed to take off old ones, new ones you just pop them on
Thanks man! Subscribed!
I thought this trunk was just heavy af
Hahaha seriously, bought my bmw and got smacked in the had a couple times... was like damn these trunks are hEAVY
Had the trunk whack me on my back before when I was grabbing something out my aunt's e90.
Hahaha thought the same thing 😆 😂
Thx Bud! Great easy well-done vid.
That's what's up!
Thanks Justin.
Thumbs up from Washington State Bro
Thanks for all the cool vids
I've had bad struts for soooooooo long now and I've grown soooooo tired of people slamming my trunk by accident because I'm too lazy to replace them. Your video has inspired me to not be a lazy ass.
Just watched and will use what I learned to DIY my struts that I have put up with for several years, but now can easily fix myself. Thanks.
Finally replacing mine! Very informative and easy to follow video! Thank you!!
Thanks for the really helpful video of install Justin. It took a broken strut end to replace me, I’m glad it broke as I just thought that was the way it was with the heaviness of the trunk, it often closed whilst I had me head in the trunk hitting my back or head. I am about to install new struts now. Thanks again mate. Cheers - Stu 😀
Thank you for this video
I just changed them thanks to you!
Even though it's an easy job, I wasn't sure how to get them off. Now I know how the clips work, should be a doddle. So thanks!
A skateboarding channel would be awesome. Think about it Justin!
Good idea on the gloves. I'm always doing that. Thanks for the video, I'll be trying this in a couple of days!
Thanks Justin. Was super easy.
Thanks so much! I did this all by myself today! 😆
You have no idea how many of your videos i have seen to do things on my car. You are a legend man.
The gloves made me giggle lol informative & good video!
Best demo Iv seen very helpful thank you
I did this exactly two days ago, using the same struts as you did 😂 what a Timing
great minds...
Awesome 👏 just purchased mine thru the link you offered, arrives in 2 days 😎
Best outtrroooo ever bro g damn keep it up
You make great videos and you can skate 😂 Good job!
Hey mate,
Thanks heaps for the videos. Was thinking of selling it for something else until I found most of the useful, articulate e90 DIY videos were from the one person - you.
I've done a few jobs and now actually enjoy fixing up the little things.
Dam your pushing those vids out 👌💪☺
very good video, quality and informative
Hello Mr Nice. Your video was very helpful. Thank u so much...😎
😀 Thanks amigo this really helped me. Greetings from Texas the lower rio grande valley

SKILLS TO PAY THE BILLS 🔥🔥
Thanks man.
I just replaced these in my e90
These are the best after market struts ever !
its boot here in my home country malaysia. trunk is at the tree or something.. good video as always, justin!
I liked the tricks at the end!!
Thanks!
Another amazing tutorial
Thank you!
TY!
I thought the strut only helped the trunk to stay up but not to actually help opened it. Just changed the struts and loving it. 5 min top, really easy to change.
Thanks! We didn’t need to move the retaining clips to install the new one, just used a rubber mallet. Easy as pie!
Doing this ASAP 👍🏾👍🏾
I replaced mine with some made by üro parts on rock auto, $6.18/ea and haven't had any problems in 6 months!
Not only did u have the vibe but do skate!! 😅😅 fck yeah!! 🤘 🤘🤘👌👌🔥🔥🛹 I was here for the beemer vlogs and DIYs but good to know u shredd those dunks properly!! Respect yoo!! 👍👍
Looking for advise please! I have a 2011 E90 and recently both or the sideview mirrors (just the glass not the housing) started shaking at highway speeds. They are both solid at low speeds even on the bumpiest roads so I assume it must be the wind speed shaking them around somehow. They both have a little wiggle room to the touch and bounce back into place. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the tip...gonna check my struts "a proud or pompous step or walk" right away! lol
😂
Thanks bro
Can u do another video like this but for replacing the hood struts
Yes, in my part of the world we refer to the "trunk" as the boot, and the "hood" is the bonnet, AND the "glove box" as the cubbyhole! :D
Typical and normal to shed blood whenever working on a BMW, and always be careful with the 10mm socket around these cars! :D
Back to the vid, pretty cool little DIY, mine is still using the original struts, so pretty much the same as how yours were, will have to replace them at some point. The ones for the bonnet are interestingly still pretty good though.
Didn't even know this needed to be done and now I see why! The trunk is super annoying because sometimes I'll hit my head on the latch part because the trunk doesn't raise all the way up, and it hurts like hell
😂😂😂when u said i stab myself with the screwdriver
And also explain it….love your videos✅
Great
Wow I had a feeling mine were shot 😂 thanks for the video
Good video. It's called a boot. Trunks are jocks you wear swimming.haha
Bruh, I wish I had as much swag as you :c
That skill skating ! :D
Peace V
I saw that Chris Haslem one foot balance act I SEE YOU!
Hey nice video! I was wondering if you could install ones, which can open the trunk by themselves, just by pressing the button on the key!
Thanks and keep on like that! Greetings from Austria.
I think you would need a spring for that
Yey new project for my car!!! umm honey put down the bat! No i don't know where Justin lives! LOL
tq..guys
will the boot go up if you open with the fob?
Hi Justin. Can I offer a suggestion? Use the license plate to close the trunk. That way you minimize scratches on the paint.
Awesome video brother 🙏🏼 i seriously need to do this on my car😅 i cannot count the amount of time the bootlid hit my head😅 luckily no damage😅
Ouch!!
@@justinbuice its cool😅 its long overdue for a change 😅
God I hate it when my trunk goes limp. Thanks for the video Justin good job. Great info.
LOL thanks!
I should change my shocks!
I had to replace my trunk lift motors but it was on the Gran Coupe and it was over 1500
Megacool
How many newton's must be? Thanks
For the bmw e36 link plz??
After breaking these in,is it still hard to close the trunk?
Safety-wise, I actually prefer the heavy trunk...used to have a glitch where the trunk unlocked itself while driving...and I've hit the release w/my knee a few times...stays closed no matter what, even on bumps.
Ordered immediately. Had no idea the trunk is supposed to pop up like that.
Where Can i get the wing you have on your trunk?
Yup when I ordered I though it came in pairs... it didn’t
I just swapped out these struts for my e92 and when opening the trunk initially, the weight is still very heavy and only has resistance when closing the trunk. Any thoughts on why my trunk isn’t opening with ease?
Hi, did you find the lift strength was sufficient immediately from releasing the lock? I replaced mine with a similar product, but they couldn't really support the weight initially until half open, so the lid still dropped down. Thanks.
Same here. But I have it in an e36, so maybe something is different with my trunk hinges.
I had the same issue on E39 using non BMW parts. Using OEM parts, all is well
3:09 is it really that hard to push it down? I think ill keep my old struts as its easier to close then.. i just grab the handle by the inside but it seems impossible with these strong struts...
Let’s pray for Justin’s speedy recovery those finger cuts ain’t no joke #prayforjustin😂😂😂 jk ur my boy blue !!!
Solid “old school” reference!
Hey!! (Unrelated question)
But would you happen to know a hack of how to jump a 2007 bmw 328i when locked out of your car??
My car is dead and my battery/manual key won’t open it
Or am I just screwed🤦🏼♀️
Thank you!! Your vids helped me understand a lot!!
Neither of the manual keyholes work? (Driver’s door or trunk)
багажник теперь с ключа сам открывается ? И спойлер ты монтировал с помощью скотча, держится хорошо ? На моей машине отклеивался после 3- 4 мойки. Надоело, продал его. Хотя скотч использовал 3м
Hey Justin B, it’s Justin C. Is there a way to have the trunk open automatically when you press the release button from inside the car or the key fob? I saw around there’s a spring you can get that when installed to the strut will open the trunk without a sweat.
Please make video if possible. It seems like a really cheap affordable mod that will be useful for all e90 owners. Also it should be a simple DIY.
Need to watch and make sure they open only enough, some crosslisted parts will open too far causing excess strain on wiring harness in trunk lid leading to snapping wires. Happened to my old E90.
Did this how to on my channel forever ago.
Hi
I am the 6th person to see your video
I found out the hard way I needed new struts, my trunk damn near decapitated me ❗💀🤣
struts were a cover up he was just tryna flex his skating skills
i'm thinking about auto opening trunk
