I learned from the late Lani Guinier's writings from the 1990's that standardized tests for entrance into elite law schools are wrong predictors of performance for the majority of students. She cited specific multiple peer reviewed studies with plenty of detailed stats and explanation. So this has been understood a long time.
Lani was a great jurist and her article in the 1984 book "Critical Race Theory" provides an absolutely masterful treatment of this topic

Does anyone else remember a time when Miami University of Ohio had higher standards of admissions for Black students? This was back in the 80's and 90's. The rep I spoke to was so proud of it too. She said they wanted to make sure when Blacks came to the school that they would succeed. It made me so angry that she tried to make it seem as if it was a way to protect the students and not a way to discriminate. The thing though, they were not the only ones.

DEI for college admission is important especially since everyone is an overachiever for college admissions these days. Students have "cracked the code" in getting a high GPA by taking all honors classes. Everyone applying has over a 4.0 so there has to be another approach colleges use to accept students.
