FFS, bow can he not be in the HHoF? 5’6” and utterly fearless. Strong two way player, great speed, soft touch handling the puck, and a killer shot. I was only starting to become a true hockey lover later in his career, but even in his later years, after leaving Calgary, I never saw #14 give up on a play. And knowing now what he had to go through when he was younger, and how he persevered...come on. That’s courage. He’s an inspiration for other survivors of abuse. The knock against him is that his candor rubbed some people the wrong way. Really? I find his honesty refreshing. Theo tells it like it is. No bullshit. If that rankles a few power brokers, tough.
He won a Cup, and a Gold Medal. Scores 1,088 career points (455 G, 633 A) in 1,084 games played. Over a point per game in the regular season-in perhaps the toughest of eras-that’s impressive as heck. He did it in the playoffs, too. 79 points scored (34 G, 45 A) in 77 playoff games. The guy made one post season all star team (1994-‘95 second team), and just missed out with third team mentions in both 1990-‘91 and 1998-‘99, and a 4th in 1995-‘96. Two times he finished in the top 5 for the Hart, and 5th in the Selke in 1990-‘91.
    Put Theo in!!

How 14 isn't hanging from the rafters in Calgary I have no idea. The heart of the team for so long and the quintessential Calgary Flame. (Also, I forgot there was a period where he and Lindros were playing together. The sight of The Big E towering over Theo very much makes me chuckle)

Seeing Theo again has me on the brink of tears. More than the brink. He brought so much to hockey and as another very short person he is my biggest inspiration despite two separate career paths one a hockey player the other a writer, musician, activist, and I'm also thinking of writing a hockey movie screenplay. I remember going to a game in Montreal in 1999 and shouting "THEO! THEO! THEO!" Lucky for me there were a lot of Ranger fans at that game! He really honored the Flames and were he on that team today they'd be constantly in the playoffs. Thank you Theo.

They don't really retire jerseys anymore. They had the "Forever a Flame" thing where they honoured past Flames, but they haven't done so since 2014, when they inducted Joe Nieuwendyk (the other FAF they inducted was Al MacInnis, in 2012). It should be noted that Calgary has not issued #14 since Fleury left the team in 1999, so it's unofficially retired.

Man, I would love to see another Theo Fleury in the NHL. I met the guy once, and on another occasion spoke with Mike Bossy about him while at ESPNZone in NYC. I know the guy had a rough ending, but if you were 5' 6" and one of the best players in the league with a target on your back, while everyone else is a foot taller...you'd have some struggles, too. And not just keeping your teeth. The guy was all heart and the very reason I felt brave enough to try hockey myself.
