I went out Saturday, southwest Ohio, was scouting for turkey sign aswell as trying find morels. Because of you I pay more attention to the shaggy back hickory. I love your attitude towards those who critique. Now that we have had some rain and temperature relief I'm hoping to find some blacks. I don't worry about yellows, I get those in spades butnow I'm torn, opening day of turkey season is Saturday so I'll be in the hardwoods, alot of beech, oak and hickory. Here I am drinking beer at 7 am enjoying the video. I just got off of a 12 hour shift so it's ok!!
Black sponges are elusive and a cool find, worked a patch for a few years and what I remember the most was they stained my fingers it was so cool… wishing for that every year. They were a delicious early treat.
I have always loved black morels, and it looks like you are finding some real honey holes! Great video, and good tips for sure. I just found the first ones last Sunday morning. There should be more in a few days. I love the big yellows, but the black morel has always been kinda special to me because that's what I started out with. Take Care, Happy picking!

@@whisker_biscuit_outdoors1385 why? To many hunting them now days? I think lack of snow fall in recent winters. Im here in central Ohio. Been hunting this area close to 40 years. All my spots have petered out and its very hard to find new spots once you get older. But semi retired now so have the time to look and branching out this year. Heading over to hoover NF this weekend, then up to Michigan mid may,, if my knees hold up.
The Mushroom Wonderland channel recently did a compilation interviewing loads of US mycologists and respected experts on cut vs pull and the general consensus was that it doesn’t make a difference as long as you respect the environment, don’t rake the land etc. On your black morel finding - this is surely a superpower! I’m still looking for my first (in north Switzerland).
yep you gotta love all the experts telling old wives tails. and folklore. the only thing a mesh bag does is keep them from sweating like plastic would ....great vid

Are those morchella angusticeps? I hunt in southeast Nebraska and Missouri and haven't ever come across them. The overhang on the cap is interesting in that species. Appreciate your channel - happy hunting!
Had a spot that peaked at 350 yellows, next year 20, year after 1. Onion bags and tap the spores out upside down didn't save it. Had others for 15 years with the same methods. All spots die. Thanks for the videos and fuck those keyboard warriors my guy!
I was gonna go with soup cooler but I thought that was more appropriate. Btw I live in Va and I’m still finding greys, blacks , and yellows. Love watching you find them.

Man ive been out sooo much already and havent been able to find anything... not a single one 😢 of course I dont really live close to anywhere that would really got wild and dont have a car either so there is that 😂
Im curious on how to find these? I know the video says to do this but im assuming you mean just go out and look? Lol honestly though would like to know if them are around specific trees or on a creek bank maybe
This was my first year hunting and i think i just picked a garbage spot with leaves that are just to deep. Gonna try it one more time this season somewher else and then its back to the drawing board
would you say the heat you had was bad for the morel production or good ? we had heat here in quebec to about 75-85 for a week and i cant find any lol !

I pull all the stumps and throw them in my garden box.. about 10 years of doing it still havent got one in my garden lol but ill keep doing it

Don’t give up hope on the deep woods thick ground cover leaves spots. They normally produce after everyone is done for the season
