    Hi Diamond. I always enjoy your videos. My wife is American and she's constantly puzzled by my unintentional (but definitely accurate) joy in the life for the seemingly innocuous, such as enjoying nature, exercising, and (as I'm sure you've noticed) having a cup of tea! I suspect a lot of it comes from our post-Second World war austerity when we learned to cope with very little materially (because we had no choice!), and that mentality has been passed down through the generations.

    I was born in the UK and lived there for the best part of 37 years. Then I moved to Ireland and have been here for 29 years. I have learned to slow down, talk with complete strangers for no particular reason, and wave to others as I drive along country lanes. People are much the same everywhere but different in their sameness. And that is another thing I have learned: logic has different rules in Ireland.

    • @wildthing72
      @wildthing72 Před rokem +1

      Yep, although definitely by the week for me, it's not practical to go into shops every day, it really depends where you live, buy and if you are lucky about the dates of the products, but "best before" really means you can eat after that date too, like if you buy a couple of avocados, I find sometimes they aren't ripe until after the best before date, but sliced melon starts smelling sour so eat it straight away within two days. You can always take advantages of some bargains, they put people off thinking it's cheap, but when I'm at work late and I need something quick in the evening, I would still use a 3 for 1 bargain, say buy a ready made vegetable lasagne. You don't have to kid yourself to buy two different products, you are still saving money in the future buying three, just saving them till the next two weeks.

    Firstly, so glad you're posting again.
    The work/life balance in the USA messes you up, we work to live, not live to work.
    My life lessons are:
    Don't live with regrets, it burns you up.
    The other one is be comfortable with your decisions at the time you make them.
    Yes, they are kind of linked and its not a perfect system, none is ,but I regret nothing and although sometimes they looking back I may have done some things differently, I thought they were right at the time and its only the benefit of hindsight that I may change that view....

      @@DiamondGunn_ , sorry girl your not correct , ie it's an American firm that has part of it in America and part in the UK ,
      The part in the UK has to give certain amount of holidays plus national holidays ( bank holidays ) this is law decreed by government , but in America the government hasn't made such laws for everyone , all American governments say it must be done for those that work 40 hours a week but those that work less than 40 hrs a week it's up to the employer to give the time off , health insurance etc etc , the thinking is all good employers will look after their employees , this is why a lot of Americans only have work for 38 - 39 hrs a week and only have 5-10 days holidays and if they get ill they use their days off for the pay that they are going to lose plus they don't have to get a doctor's note which apparently cost approx $70 and of course their employer doesn't have to give them more paid time off or give heath insurance etc , all because they work less than 40 hrs a week

    Hi guys, firstly can I say I'm so pleased you've found yourselves a happier way of life over here in the UK, we're not a perfect country by a long way but we've got a lot right especially when it comes to health and life/work balance. Personally I love America, I've only been twice but there are still so many more parts that I want to go back and see but it's strange that such a rich country that does so much right then gets so much important fundamental things wrong, also I've found that if you have a discussion about these things with someone born, living and working in the US they just can't hear what you are saying when you try and explain where the US falls down and it's not until they venture abroad they realise there is something that works better, it's not all perfect as I said but it's definitely better, in my book it's inhumane to watch someone fall apart physically because they cannot afford to go to the doctors, that is disgraceful in this day and age and the US has enough finances and taxes in place to change the system, it would take time and I'm sure there would be resistance from some quarters but to be healthy and see the appropriate people when you are in ill health shouldn't be a privilege for some, it should be a right for all. Enjoy your Sunday guys.

      I don't think this is a general truism because the UK has winning sports people and confident thinkers and people with aspirations that will take time to achieve. You can choose a starting career from something you are passionate about and really, for most of us, you should be able to know how that career works before and what you need to get there, before you leave school. If you leave school and don't have a career then you may gravitate towards having children too early or being discontented with what you have and then rediscovering education again. So I accept what you say but there isn't a future without self confidence that is earned somewhere.

I've always wanted to live in California and a lot of black british people wanted to live in America for decades because it seemed more racially diverse and openly discussed race versus here where the racism is covert. The are both great but the trust has an amazing app that shows all their properties
    Also try and break up the UK into sections and then check out what each one offers then go and visit them in short breaks

    Trail looks great, plenty to slow down to see with a companion, a dog sees the world differently to humans through smell, he/she must stop you going too fast around the trail and missing anything. Wonder what he is smelling in the grass and the plants and in the differing seasons? You can always stop especially near woods to maybe hear a woodpecker or watch a kestrel hovering or buzzards overhead. As a teacher it might not apply but I like to take time off when it's after school holidays, after October half term will be so much quieter. The Blair Witch part made me laugh, reminds me of winter for the more extremist walker and the trails are crispy and your breath is like fog, even more interesting when you walk in fog. And of course there may be the ocassional a good afternoon, good morning or hello, but no pressure to talk !
