Have someone track your location by GPS. There are so many campers who take a wrong turn and get stuck somewhere. If someone is tracking you, they can send a search team out to your last known location. That will narrow down the search perimeter. This happened to an elderly couple last year. The husband didn't make it. So sad.
@@TheGonzoBookthat's a fantastic tip! I remember that couple. Very sad.
I was nearly a victim of a ploy at a rest stop when I was staying there overnight. What typically happens is a male and a female will pretend that they are in a very loud argument and she will act as though she is being attacked, but this is just to get you to come out of your RV and when you do, the male will attempt to engage with you or when you go to comfort and protect the woman, the other party will slip into your RV and ransack it.
When this happened to me I had a feeling it was a scam and so I started yelling at them through my window to stop it and told them that I was calling the police. They quickly got into their vehicle and drove off, and I left as well. They found me driving down the highway and the male was in the passenger seat and started cursing at me.
Good job you trusted your intuition. Hopefully your comment will make folks more aware.
@barryholiday8998 You followed your gut and its a good thing you did. So many different types of scams out there and its really hard for honest folks to tell when something is a ploy.
No different than someone pretending to have car trouble so you can stop and come out.
You should have called them anyway. They should be checked out.
@@hed2410 I forgot to mention that I did contact the police and gave them a complete description of the people and their vehicle.
It sounds like you're saying that you should always be prepared to move on to another truckstop, rest area, or gas station. Therefore, have extra meals and snacks and never run fuel too low before refilling.
Exactly!
Omgosh! Sherri skipping around like the average person whoâs not paying attention! That had me crackin up cause thatâs SO ME! đđ This was a good lesson in remembering to stay aware of my surroundings. Also, awesome example of how easy it is to sneak into an RV, because like Jon, I also would think the RV would move at least a little bit when someoneâs stepping into it. Much needed infođ
Hey @TheLoungewithLT đ Glad you enjoyed the vid! We felt this was an important topic to cover. Stay safe!
I lock my doors at my house while I mow the lawn or go to the shedđ. My family thought I locked them out deliberately. But itâs a reflex
That's a good habit!
It's amazing how far (as communities and as a country) we've come, having to always lock down for the briefest of moments and be wary of everyone around you.
It's sad that few bad individuals have changed how the rest of us treat each other. I lock everything all bay doors, tow vehicle doors and entrance door especially when fueling. Your on the other side fueling and in back and can not see the entrance door. I fuel at Sam's Club gas stations most of the time they are safe most of the time. I won't sleep in rest areas to risky.
@@jameslawless9819 a friend of mine said her parents, on vacation, were gassing the car. someone opened the passenger door stole the ladyâs purse and got away with it. In a flash.
I keep both doors lock. But you could push in easy.yes I , I got new door knobs. And their setting on top of refrigerator. đ
You should always be on high alert at rest stops no matter what you are riding in! Thanks for your information you guys!â€
Very true! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this important information. Sometimes we get a little too comfortable and forget itâs still a crazy world out here when weâre not in our safe place.
So true!
I also always carry some good Mace inside my truck and I am license to carry in most states in the US, the states that Iâm not I either avoid them or I only get out to get fuel and leave. We try not to never stay at a truck stop or Cracker Barrel or even a Walmart parking lot.
This is one of your BEST videos!! Nothing but solid information with learned experience behind it. Thankyou for reminding us to STAY FROSTY!
Thank you for the kind words. Haven't heard stay frosty in a while. Love that term!
Grew up in Southern Baltimore. I do the same looking and keeping myself aware of my surroundings. One thing I have learned is not to be complacent on the road.
Love this video.
When I fuel I usually keep a hand on the RV to feel adjustments or door opening/closing.
Most of the times my wife stays inside while I fuel the rig up.
South Bmer? Me too,

Our sincere prayers and best regards to the Weavers.
Thank you, Sherri and John, for this important PSA.đđŸâ€ïž
We care about this community. RVers are like family.
Good points. Always know your surroundings , always have your head on a swivel. Like Sherri, I too grew up in that big eastern city. Stay vigilant, stay off your phone when walking around, and as you said, if the area looks sketchy, move on.
And be ready to protect yourself. The old adage â Iâd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
Stay safe
That adage is so very true!
Just a caution about using bear spray inside the rig. We were discussing this in the Ekko group (in a bear in the rig context) and someone pointed out that it's a wide spray and will get into everything and wreck your electronics. They recommended a narrow stream pepper spray inside the rig.
Good point. We had no idea bear spray could damage electronics.
@@AmpedtoGlamp I can't find the post now (FB search, sigh) but it had to do with the fogging aspect of the spray. Even detailing won't get it out of seats, etc. And it can get in your electronics and short things. They can also explode from heat, so another things to beware of.
Pepper FOAM/GEL should be used to prevent you from getting sprayed. It's a little more but much easier and safer for all.
Sherri and John, I love your RV CHANNEL! Love your teaching and coaching style on RV safety! We donât own an RV yet, but are getting ready to take a big step and are considering how we can do it with our 2 dogs. Not sure weâd full time. Lots to consider! Thank you for ALL the beneficial information in your videos!!! đđ
Our pleasure! We love sharing what we've learned. Thanks for watching and stay safe!
Thank you for posting this. I literally just had a situation happen at a rest stop and a laundrymat last week in the morning. Yes, trust your gut.
Sometimes we're tempted to ignore it but it never steers us wrong.
I am a 70 year old woman and I will be travelling by car on a 10 hour trip before stops with my 20 year old son. Normally thereâs usually a group of about four adults travelling together so I am not concerned because we are always very alert as a group. He has some serious brain and spinal health issues that makes it dangerous for him to engage in physical altercations. He is also not so cautious of his surroundings as I would like for him to be. I donât like the idea of him going into rest rooms alone, I think that I am going to order some pepper spray for him to protect himself with. That will at least give him the opportunity to get away from danger. I want him to be aware of his surroundings but I donât want to scare him. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic. â€
Great idea giving him a way to defend himself. Thanks for watching and stay safe!
A great video full of common sense ideas. God bless and keep you both safe. Thank you.
Thank you! đ. Stay safe!
You are so right on this, and with the way things have gotten you hear of this more and more now, I always keep my head on a swivel, I even tell the people in my church to do the same, situation awareness is key. Without going into a long story my DW and myself had reservation at a camp ground and when we got there both of us felt the gut feeling so we left, only to be follow but I watch them out of my side mirror. That was not good so after driving for about 7 hours to get there we had to drive another 6 or 7 more hours.
Better to share driving responsibilities than to be robbed and brutally injured, or worse. Please stay safe out there.đ
It's good you followed your gut. Glad you made it home safely. Stay safe!

Liked this video. Very smart to not let us know what you really have for protection. Watched another couple and he not only said all the things he had, but showed them in his rv! Totally not a good idea. You used term OPSEC, so are you guys retired military? Are new subscriber!! Also veteran and new to driving class c rv.
Welcome to our community and thank you for the sub! đ I think I know which video you're talking about. We were shocked with how much info they shared. John is retired USMC and I'm a Navy vet. Which branch were you?
The problem with those sprays is that you will be affected too. Berna guns is a great less lethal option. Also learning self defense like jiujitsu will help you get away and run if you are grabbed. Screaming also helps. Get peoples attention to whatâs happening.
Thanks for sharing. Those are good options too!
Oh my, yes keep your head on a swivel! Being prepared, do not be in the dark parts! Lol be safe

Great video content. Wife and I both are CCW holders and carry everywhere. It is sad, but it seems to have come to this....
Thank you! We have to do what ever it takes to keep our loved ones safe.
Yes, it so important to keep your doors locked and head on the swivel. Very informative. Praying for the Weaver familyđđŸ
Hey guys đ. Thanks for watching and stay safe out there.
Thanks for the video đđœ
Thanks for Checking In đ
Nobody likes to be on the recieving end of ~ A Marine Grade Air Horn either as a deterrent. Also Blank Guns are legal most everywhere & they sound, look & throw fire out of the barrel.
You gave some good advice, could save a life. For non lethal that's more effective than pepper spray, without the legal issues and mess bear spray can cause, I carry cans of Wasp & Hornet Spray. Aim for the eyes and it will stop both 2 legged and 4 legged threats in their tracks. I've also invested in some very loud mini bicycle alarms that sense motion. Can be discreetly attached to RV doors or camping gear around my campsite. When they move, I know, so does everyone else in the area. They are why I still have my remote solar panels. Also have some small personal alarms that have a belt clip, and a trigger pin attached to a thin strap. Pull the pin and things get really loud, won't stop till pin is put back into it's small hole or battery dies. I wear one of these when at Rest Stops, Gas Stations, often around campsite. When sleeping I can also have them discreetly strapped to doors and windows. making sure no one gets in without my knowing. And I sleep With my lethal options, so anyone who dares to enter may be ending their criminal career. Better judged by 12, than carried by 6. I choose to be the survivor, not a statistic.
Love the way you put it..'Survivor not a statistic'. Thanks for the great tips! đđ

Hey @TheGonzoBook đđ
I was air force and my husband was army.
Cool video Brooklyn is in the house
Hey Brooklyn! Thanks for checking out our vid!
Thank you for addressing the elephant in the room.
We sometimes forget. I know the situation was a wakeup call for us.
All good tips. While most rest areas are safe 99% of the time itâs always good to be prepared. We have also learned that itâs good to hang with the big trucks that are also parked for the night. Most truck drivers are like a brotherhood/sisterhood and their presence helps.
Actually truck drivers don't like it when RVs take up one of the few spots available for trucks. RVers can park places we can't.
Thatâs only true in truck stops that are dedicated to the professional drivers. Rest areas and their large parking spaces are mot dedicated to truck but also welcome buses and RVs. I have never had a poor interaction with a truck driver in a rest area.
@@clay3580 the spaces you speak of are marked Trucks and RVs. My point is there are not enough spots for the trucks. RVs can park other places. This is why truck drivers are forced to park on the side of ramps, sometimes getting tickets, but have no where else to legally park.
Point taken. But I guess it also depends on your RV. My rig is the exact same size as a 18 wheeler with trailer. Iâm over 65â and require a full size pull through. This last year Iâve limited myself to the Georgia welcome center on I-95 South.,massive rest area with about 50-60 large pull throughs. Very nice center to overnight.
@@clay3580 Walmarts used to allow truck and RV parking. Most don't anymore for a couple of reasons. Then the powers that be messed up the hours truckers could drive and now some areas are oversaturated with drivers trying to park, where other areas remain completely empty.
Stay safe
You too!
Check out these non lethal weapon by Byrna. I heard you can take them anywhere in the US and Canada.
Yes, we've seen the Byrna. There's been a lot of talk about it on other channels. I've heard its similar to a paintball gun. Is that true?
@@AmpedtoGlamp yes, I saw it on another channel. Says itâs a pepper filled ball fired by CO2 cartridge that travels about 60 ft with enough force to fracture ribs. Also less likely to penetrate your rig and go into other rigs like a standard handgun.
What kind of gimbal or smart phone stabilizer are you using
We don't use stabilizers or gimbals. The iPhone does a great job with keeping the video steady.
the second amendment will keep you safe so take full advantage of that AND STOP LISTENING TO THOSE TRYING TO TAKE THAT RIGHT AWAY
Just think about rest stops as home base for serial killers and perverts, your just visiting.
I have asked this before on another channel and did not get a response. My question is: How do you get by with a lethal weapon on board when many campgrounds tell you that they do not allow fireworks or firearms on their property at any time? Do you not tell them that you have a firearm when asked or lie on the rules sheet when you sign up for that specific campground? Or do you just avoid campgrounds that specifically say in their terms that they donât allow firearms of any type?
What I carry for my own safety I look at it as the 'nunya' effect. Ain't nunya business if I have a firearm or not. Pretty sure an intruder isn't abiding by a park rule regarding no firearms.
How people protect themselves and their property is their business, however, if a campground doesnât allow firearms obviously one shouldnât stay there. A firearm is one tool used for oneâs safety, there are many other options if using a firearm is not your choice. If a person has their CCW; license to carry a concealed fireman they have the freedom to carry in most places, but there are limitations and rules that must be followed to keep their CWW, most responsible gun owners arenât going to jeopardize their right to carry over lying on forms or other foolishness. And if the person is smart and responsible he or she will have conceal carry insurance which provides more valuable information that helps the the gun owner make informed decisions on firearm usage. Conceal insurance also well protects the weapon owner against liabilities. The responsible gun owner isnât the one you should be concerned about. Itâs funny how criminals use firearms with impunity no one seems bat an eye, until itâs too late. Itâs up to you to Stay Safe on Roadđ
Just don't have it on your body.
