    There are lots of comments about the population of Krakow being wrong. I quoted the metro area population, which is 1.7 million:
    Population (31 December 2019)
    • City 779,115 Increase (2nd)[1]
    • Density 2,359/km2 (6,110/sq mi)

    I spent a week in Krakow 4 years ago. What a beautiful city it is. The people are very friendly, add to that good food , cheap beer , history and you have just the perfect place in the world.

    I’m sure you have noticed how clean Krakow is….no fingerprints on bus windows, store fronts and not a piece of paper on the street. This is found throughout all of Poland. The Polish people are very proud of their country. You will see graffiti in some older poorer areas but the majority of Poland is pretty much pristine. In 5 months driving, traveling, and living throughout Poland I never saw one homeless person. A family oriented culture means the families take care of family. They also have good family services. This was my experience.
    My father told me when I was about 12 years old, worrying about my chubby self, said. “I have traveled around the world and the most beautiful women in the world are from Poland.” Well I knew that was me being 2nd generation American but very much Polish too. My preteen self esteem rose high that day to today at 73 years old. 🙂

      @@szyszak9 I was wrong to say there were no homeless in Poland. I just didn’t see any as I drove all over the country. Obviously there are people suffering from poverty and other afflictions everywhere and in Poland as well. I just didn’t see the kind of conditions as found in cities like Los Angeles in the United States. Watch any video about Venice Beach CA. Once a beautiful place now the home of the tossed aside people. Whether mental health, addiction, or lost jobs and desperation, thousands find themselves sleeping in cars, parks, streets and beaches here. There is a culture in this country of not caring for the less fortunate or those mentally ill. We have lots of opportunity as well. I am going back to Poland next summer and will be mindful of your comments. It is a beautiful country.

    One thing that I found amazing is that all traffic stops for pedestrians. I was on a very busy street at rush hour cars packed and moving fast. I couldn’t seem to be able to get across. An elderly lady next to me just walked into traffic. All cars in all directions stopped, no honking, no impatient drivers, so I walked right behind her and realized that every person especially the elderly are valued and respected in Poland.

    Akademia Sztuk Teatralnych w Krakowie, it is called, AST for short.
    Note that in Polish all words can (and do!) change their endings depending on what case they're in, what they modify, if they are masc., fem., or neutral gender, and also they are singular or plural, which explains why there are least 17 different ways of writing the word for the number two, in Polish..
    In English there is only one, way to write "two", and that is two.
    No joke, Polish is one of this world's most difficult languages. 😱

    I appreciate the fact that Gabriel said that Poland was invaded by Germans and not by Nazis. This seemingly small difference is, in reality, very important. The Wehrmacht was a military force of German state, not the Nazi party. For comparison, no one says ‘Republican invasion of Iraq or Afghanistan’ during the George W. Bush presidency or a ‘Democrat invasion of Vietnam’ during the JFK’s presidency. Saying that it was Germans who invaded Poland is not only historically accurate, but clearly places the responsibility for the barbaric act of war. Today, accusations of being a Nazi are common and are used as a political weapon. As a consequence, nazism is no longer clearly associated with Germany. It’s not a joke, but there are some Germans who claim that Germany was the first country invaded by Nazis. What they are trying to accomplish is to take responsibility off Germany for the military aggression, destruction and horrible war crimes it caused, resulting in the death of 50 million people.

    • @annethall
      @annethall Před 2 lety

      @@Zeebee1971 sorry but when Jews were gassed or murdered in other ways, their homes and valuables were mostly stolen by Nazis. Years later when a stolen piece of art was known to belong to a murdered Jew, family had a chance to claim it for example. But generally speaking, real estate was not given to any heir who survived and was out of Poland.

    • @Zeebee1971
      @Zeebee1971 Před 2 lety +1

      @@annethallI'm sorry, but it's not about the heirs' property. Polish citizens of other religions were also killed during the war. Their property, if there were no heirs, legally became the property of the state treasury. There is no legal or moral basis for Poland to pay Jewish organizations in the United States for the destruction and death of citizens caused by the Germans.

    I'd say Poland is definitely cheaper than many European countries in terms of living costs because they use zloty currency that is cheaper than Euros. Before Slovakia adopted Euro as its currency they were cheaper country than Poland, I heard many Poles were going to Slovakia to buy cheap stuffs. Now it's the other way around because Slovakia adopted Euro currency. And their salaries changed only a little - not as much as prices. I hope Poland does not adopt Euro as its currency in the near future so that they can remain as lower cost destination of Europe.

    Krakow is so incredible, because there were no bombs falling from the sky in WW2. So all the old stuff is still there. Few European cities in central Europe can say the same about the destruction of the old stuff in their centres.

      @@89. You mean in Krakow? Or Poland? In Krakow I spent a long time exploring the old city. The churches are amazing, esecially from the inside. I've also been inside parts of the castle and in the cathedral. This all took me so long that I didn't have time left to visit Ausschwitz. I had like two and a half days there.
      I liked Poland so much that I am sure I will return. Such nice and relaxed people.

    Ugggh, as a very frequent visitor to Krakow, I am familiar with that Gypsy fiddle player! All the bar and café owner think he is a PITA! He plays the same 3 tunes over and over and over again! Looking forward to being back in Krakow again in a few weeks time!
    The market you went to is "Hala Targowa", on Sundays they hold a huge flea market (English - car boot sale) which I always make a point of visiting! The real "Comminist Area" is the district of Nowa Huta next to the Sandomirz Steel Plant, this works was a gift from Stalin to Krakow for being 'good communists'.
