The American M60 main battle tank has seen innumerable upgrades throughout its lifespan, but one is particularly interesting. The M60 120S or M60 2000 received the turret of an M1 Abrams and an upgraded powerpack. In War Thunder it only has the former, making it incredibly slow and painful to use.

This Tank Is Hopeless - Hry
In retrospect I believe a lot of my bad experiences with this thing can be attributed to the general state of top tier, but the lack of mobility really hurts it. Maybe I'll try replaying it sometime.
Play the T26E1-1 pls
the M48A1, it is extremely bad and you get apcr as the stock shell couldnt be worse.
Top tier is miserable most of the time unfortunately. It's fun to play with all of the neat toys the tanks get but it's just not fun
don't sugarcoat it, gaijin just hates america and abrams and keeps releasing them, it's hopeless.

Depends on what criteria you both are using, second world countries are actually meant to represent that support/are supported by the USSR while Third world countries are officially neutral on the Cold war, so third world countries would usually have more American surplus or cheap west European equipment while second world would have a majority of Soviet equipment.
Take Philippines (third world) for example, Uses surplus equipment and vehicles from USA like M113s, while their most modern are from European countries like France or Spain and also Israel (the newest Sabrah light tank they just got is from Spain with Israeli electronics)
Meanwhile, Vietnam, which would be a second world country, currently has the T-90S as their modern tank equipment, with other Soviet era tanks in service as well.

There was someone explaining how tanks are coded in the game.
"They don't do torque in the game. Ground vehicles are essentially planes with a bunch of gravity drag and counter-friction applied to them..."
Quite literally climbing hills in this game decreases your engine power. I forget specifically how it works, but the basic logic is "More speed = More torque" This is why things like the ITO couldn't climb out of a tiny ass crater because it was slow to accelerate, and therefore had no torque.
Can't wait for the Torque Strike update to come, when they try and fail to implement it and everything becomes even worse
That explains quite a lot of things, actually.

It honestly looks so cursed, the uncanny valley of looking like an M1. Like a movie studio dressed up an M60 to look like one, like many in the past did with T-34s and T-55s to look like Tigers.
It looks like a M1 that was compressed on the horizontal axis
iirc most movie/tv shows M1 Abrams are modified Chieftains 😂😂😂😂
Honestly the dimensions of it feel weird
It looks more correct in the IRL 120S but in game it just feels weird

I see Spook was trying to lean on the scales a bit by saying the tank had 12,000 horsepower. Would probably immediately become his favourite tank in the game if it did though.
" Why not give it the 1200 horsepower engine?"
Because Gaijin will always choose the lowest performing variant of a US tank they can.

The M4 90mm without the HVSS suspension.
The T25 without the stabilizer.

Not that it really matters at that b.r, but the lower plate is slightly weaker than on the normal M60s. It's slightly less angled, so it can't stop 105 sabot (and some other things) making it unnecessarily more vulnerable against vehicles at a lower b.r

Thanks for posting the games that didn't pan out. It's nice to see even experienced pros having their bad games. Makes the WT suffering a bit more bearable.
It was never built with the 1200hp power pack. The whole concept of the vehicle itself was to marry the M1A1 turret to the M60A3 hull. The engine, therefore, was the Continental AVDS-1790-2C; 12 cylinder, 4 cycle, 90° vee, supercharged diesel, making 750 hp. It was a proposal that after the vehicle would be purchased, that the purchasing country could outfit the tank with the Abrams/ Merkava power pack. As for the thermals, export authorized countries were to get 2nd gen thermals while non export could swap out to their own thermals. Reply for sources if you’re curious, but TL;DR: They did a good job with putting the 120S in game. They just need to address the M829A1 penetration issues but pre and post pen.
People couldnt even properly fit inside the object 775 and its missiles couldnt hit the broad side of a barn irl, yet its a functioning tank in wt, its always the russian tanks that get the ''it was imagined it would do this and it does'' and american ones get the ''not all of them had it therefore none of them had it'' treatment

According to AW (who actually do quite a bit of research on their vehicles) it should have the 1790-series engine which produced 750HP, not the abysmal 660~hp of the one in WT. The production versions were to be fit with the 1200hp version, but the tank never went into production. Even if WT is modeling based on the prototype and not the tentative production version, it should *still* have about 100ish more HP than it does.
it does have 750 HP, it comes 663 HP when its stock, spookston just misleading his audience yet again
The production variant was shown to the public in October 2001
So sorry,your info is wrong
As far as I know there was no true "production variant" of this tank. It was an export kit comprised mainly of a turret and turret ring adapter. Hulls would vary by the nations providing them.
Its bad enough it doesn't even have the up armored hull but it also has the stock engine with no era/composite.. this is the definition of sadness
That's on-brand for this tank. It was meant for poorer countries to plop onto their existing hulls. Naturally the hulls get used as-is.

Obscure the Sturmtiger with bushes and embrace your inner Goblin.
reading the wikipedia page, it seems the protype still retained the weaker engine, but, to quote the page, " It was envisioned that production vehicles would have the more powerful General Dynamics Land Systems AVDS-1790-9 diesel developing 1,200 hp (890 kW) and Allison X-1100-5 series automatic transmission extending operational range to over 300 miles (480 km)..." so Gaijin just went with the weaker engine I guess
Problem is,the version that was shown to the public in late 2001 WAS the final production variant.
Why? because the main competitor to GDLS was the Sabra program: they had a lot of experience in Turkey with the Sabra II,so they were the favourite even before releasing the Sabra III. GDLS knew that the Sabra III had the 1200hp engine, and adding the same engine to the 120S as an "optional" is a very dumb idea,so GDLS simply bit the bullet and added that engine to the 120S,even because it has almost the same dimensions as the OG M60 engine.
In short, prototype variant had the 750hp engine+1st gen thermal combo, while the final production variant had the 1200hp+2nd gen thermal option
Never,in this tank's life, has been a variant with the stock engine and the upgraded optics
