I did not discover Agnes Obel’s music until 2019. I listened to her almost exclusively throughout the Covid lockdown and found that I just wanted to live in her world, that feeling she describes of periods of bright happiness punctuated by intense darkness and melancholia. Her music affects me like no one else’s ever has. One of the best things to come out of the last two years was learning several of her songs on piano and being able to sing them whenever I want (favorites being “On Powdered Ground”, “Chord Left” and “Mary”). As a classical pianist I’ve never been interested in playing modern music until finding her music. She is a unique talent. So grateful for her.
I love her music! She is a great artist, not only because her music is beautiful but it also makes you feel very deep inside, it connects you with yourself, it's beautiful, inspiring, profound... The song she mentioned, "It's happening", is a perfect example. I could kind of relate to what she was saying about the darkness. In my case, when I felt my life started spinning out of control and I found myself making the same mistakes again it came to my mind "it's happening, it's happening, it's happening again...". It was very powerful, and helpful to feel conscious about one's life and take control of it. I love your music AO
Great interview - it's great to understand the thinking behind the album title and how this shaped the songwriting process. The concept of fragility, letting in light and transparency that being a citizen of glass embodies really resonated. Thanks for recording and posting such an insightful, relaxed and open interview.
@@SimonSimon-rn3tm I’m a great fan of classical music. And also of Agnes Obel. They don’t have to be mutually exclusive. People experience music differently, it’s subjective. No need to insult the artist or her fans.
I feel lucky to know agnes music and with this interview I can only admire her more. You are a true artist, agnes. You make true art. One of the few who seems to care about quality, introspection and meaning in their songs more than the money they will earn. Its awesome to see how honest, simple and humble she seems to be in this interview. Its not about the spotlight. She clearly puts her soul in her craft. I was starving for something and now I know it was agnes music heh. :P
I don't know why, but everytime i listen to her music I kinda relax and feel all my stress being relieved, Mostly I listen to the obvious music in my username but her music hits something very very deep, it is so completly weird to me how some different styles of music can change you from top to bottom.
Obviously not referring to my xenophobic, racist governor. He could probably use some thoughts of fragility and transparency... but that's another conversation.
X2, i discovered her last Thursday, today I hear Familiar all the day, literally, I hope someday I could see her in a concert but I don't think she came to latin america, I love the sound in her music, it's so different and acoustic, amazing
@@z.y592, That's wonderful to hear! It's amazing when you can so deeply connect with something and take it to heart. Keep listening to your heart's content : ))
To me personally Citizen of Glass isnt a bad piece of music but nothing outstanding really. In comparison to Aventine and Philharmonics it is rather weak. Again, this is my personal opinion, appreciating music or any piece of art is subjective thus exclusive in nature.
@@BlackSnow2389 Its not bad but in comparison with most of her earlier work it lacks originality. In fact it is as if it was compiled out of some of her other songs rather than being a new composition. Yet again, this is my very personal opinion, you may totally appreciate it otherwise.
I recently found Agnes Obel's music and now I can't stop listening. I feel like her music touches my soul. So beautiful.
What an out and out philistine you are!

Love you, agnes, I love you, your creativity, talent, aoul❤❤❤
i'm sad that i didn't i know her just after watching Dark serie :(
The most creative artists almost always love Scott Walker. I find that comforting.
what a lovely sound and what a lovely artist !!!
I love you Agnes and your music too !!!!
So interesting .........
She talks about her music as a painter talks about the paintings. Connected to an atonomous project.
Very interesting!
So THAT'S how to pronounce her name... who knew?! 😊
ye right ^^?
howard haigh, yes really sometimes ı try to pronounce her name but its too different now I understan it.
danish sounds to us, the swedes, like speaking swedish if you're extremely drunk and eating porrage at the same time. very fascinating.
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet potato stuck in their throat is how I've heard the Swedes and Norwegians describe it
Light - to my English ears her name sounds like Owness Opal. Just discovered her music, off to find more :)
5:48 I’ve been looking for her explanation to this song, it’s so funny how prolific her album was dark before Netflix released “Dark”
Whaaa? She's a Scott Walker fan? Awesome!
Obviously not referring to my xenophobic, racist governor. He could probably use some thoughts of fragility and transparency... but that's another conversation.
Haha no...I'm referring to the old pop crooner (The Walker Brothers) who went experimental in his 60's and started making interesting stuff.
Thanks to Dark series, I found Agnes obel 😇
Me too
Just discovered Agnes and love her music! Does anyone know the name of the song at the beginning? 0:08?
golden green
Vibha Kumar, Thank you my dear! Much appreciated :))

Ma quanto ti si può amare Agnes?!?
Anyone familiar?

Have you ever listened to pink Floyd lyrics?....well your lyrics are difficult to understand ... Simplicity is an elegance ...
