Charging 80 bucks for something you can watch for free with a few clicks is a tough sell
"That's f*ckin illegal!"
I always laugh when during big events like Jake Paul or McGregor they try to nuke the free sites. Things go down for 5 seconds and then back online. Screw you, Dana.
Ladies and gentlemen, we got him
Do you guys get streams that don't go down constantly? For me, it's worth paying for most ppvs so I don't have to worry about that. But some ppvs, I'll risk it
Especially when you can now sail the streams in pure hd glory
I used to buy all of the ufc ppvs until I started feeling ripped off after most and they just kept raising the price.

@@luckyspurshow come you guys get it for free? Genuinely curious. I hadn’t heard of that up until now and I’ve been watching the UFC since TUF 1 😂
I find it so stupid that you have to have both a subscription to ESPN+ but then also pay almost 80 bucks for a PPV. The WWE has had the figured out for years at this point, first with the network now with Peacock, the subscription gets you everything, simple.
The WWE model wouldn’t work boss. There’s 13 PPVs a year with planned concepts and outcomes all mapped to said schedule. Eg Wrestlemania will get xyz fight bc you can literally control and manipulate outcomes. That’s the point it’s programmatic TV. That’s not his real fighting works. Very idiotic indeed. We're dumber for paying
Yeah and the wrestlers aren’t paid criminally low. Unlike in the UFC. I think prelim fighters 12k to show and 12 if they win for a 24k if they win. If they’re lucky and get 3 fights a year AND WIN that’s 72k on top of camp costs hospital bills also idk if the ufc pays for travel and room. Apparently the lowest salary for wwe wrestlers is like 250k. I get they do a lot of travel and more “matches” a lot of house shows whatever. Still. WWE has shown you don’t need to exploit your rooster.

Very interesting perspective. The UFC brass have clearly lost touch. I am a former depressed self-deletion PTSD war vet who crawled my way out of the darkness to become an 8-figure tech strategist, and even I think $80 per PPV is a ridiculous price and antiquated business model in the age of subscription streaming. The UFC brass have short-sighted thinking by engaging in the Lamborghini dealership-type business model, which is a very ineffective entertainment business strategy if they truly want to become one of the major sports of the world. They should be easily accessible to the masses just like all the other major multi-billion dollar sports are globally by charging networks rather than their fans via the old school PPV business model.

I've literally never paid for a ufc ppv🤣🤣
Death? Were PPV sales ever alive? I don't know ANYONE who actually pays for UFC PPV.
I feel their best monetisation strategy (once they're done growing) will be to sell PPVs through their own app (for $60/$70/$80/whatever they calculate earns the most) and then have both their current fight pass and an upgraded tier of fight pass that includes PPVs for, say, the basic price + half the cost of a PPV.
That lets them bundle PPVs to fans because fans will watch a lot more average cards when they have to cancel or downgrade a subscription as opposed to just not buying it. Yes, you're charging "half price" on PPVs but you're selling them a bunch of PPVs you wouldn't otherwise and it's "half price" on top of the basic fight pass price (which would get a lot more subscribers). And for the occasional viewers (who'd never be interested in fight pass), they still get their "full" PPV price.
I've spent many 10's of thousands of dollars in the past 22 years on PPV fight parties at my homes.. However, I don't pay a single effing cent now days..

It is ridiculous how much it costs to watch a full event here in Canada. You need fight pass ($10) for the early prelims, a Sportsnet subscription ($25) for the prelims, and pay for the ppv ($65) for the main card
Forget the cost of the ppv, ticket prices to go to the event are unreal.
I can’t remember the last time I purchased a PPV event. Cost too much and not even fights and no fight is guaranteed. You pay to see your favorite fighter and all if a sudden he’s injured.
Netflix being global is a great point. Something like ESPN+ isn't available in Canada. In the past those cards had been on TSN (cable sports channel).
I hope this actually happens. I used to buy every payperview, but stopped because prices just got ridiculous. I watched EVERY single fight, all prelims included, but the espn partnership has totally driven me away. I went from diehard weekly watcher for 7ish years to casual fan.
I’ll continue to stream every sport I watch, thank you
PPV price of ~$79 + ESPN+ subscription price ~$104 = $181
1 PPV is more money than my BJJ membership with unlimited training.
I too am in a situation where I’m under-monetized. ESPN and UFC have priced me out of fandom. I went from buying every PPV to not even having a Plus subscription.
It's a smart move. It's a much easier decision to make and to rationalise for people to say "well I'll pay $50 a month which is what a PPV would cost me anyway and now I get all these other sports I can watch"
You'll likely still not watch the other random sports but you've justified it to yourself.
This is mostly posturing to present a more powerful place of leverage before entering renegotiations with ESPN.
You guys giving the 🐐 martial mind his flowers makes me so happy. Been watching him since 2016 and he deserves the best 💪
The money UFC makes from PPV is pocket change compared to what ESPN pays them. The days of having over a million PPV buys is over. People are just pirate streaming the fights and the UFC knows this, so they’re trying to milk this PPV prices for as long as possible
Already saw the uncut version. 😊
As a single father, $80 is outrageous. I keep my FPV streams
I think they would be smart to follow the same approach they’ve had in Brazil since launching Fight Pass here. For us, we pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee that allows us to watch all UFC events, including the PPVs. Given the fact they have a partnership with ESPN in the US, I believe they would merge fight pass within the espn network
Man, under monetized is a lot coming from the beginnings where the tourney winner got a 50k check.
I m from Brazil and a couple of years ago we had to pay for a extra channel on cable to have all UFC events. Now UFC has terminated that deal and charge a montly fee for his own app with all events included.
My main issue has always been the price, but secondly accessing the content(PPV) that I have purchased after I have opted out of paying a monthly fee for ESPN+. Absolutely disrespectful.
In Brasil . Fight pass is like ,5 or 10 U$ monthly , and already give Access to any PPV that happens in that month😅
Let the fighters have in ring sponsors again. Money problem for them practically solved.
The modern fight kits look cleaner tho
I don’t know why UFC didn’t just follow WWE’s network model
ULTIMATE RIP OFF EVER SINCE ESPN I'LL KEEP WATCHING EVERY SINGLE EVENT FOR FREE 😂
When I started watching MMA again after watching a bit when I was younger, I was surprised at how expensive the PPVs were. I'm a wrestling fan so I'm used to how the WWE network and other similar services work where you pay the price for the platform and you get all of the PPVs along with that subscription. I could never justify paying $80 on top of a subscription fee to watch the PPVs. It's way too expensive for what they are offering. If they moved to a model like the one WWE does, I would probably watch every PPV. I think they could get Netflix to give them a look especially now that they have WWE. Netflix definitely needs the subscribers.
We have no idea if this would be beneficial, as in cheaper, for the fans, but it wouldn't be complicated to come up with a pay structure. Pay them based on views. Essentially the same thing. And if there are people who are stopping and starting their subscription, it would be mostly safe to assume that that's correlated with the ppv card, and that could be either a secondary or the primary determining factor in the fighter pay. Depending on how common that starting and stopping ended up being.
