A. Piazzolla Concert from Histoire Du Tango, played by Chloe Chua (violin) & Kevin Loh (guitar)

- The title Concert d'aujourd'hui can be translated to "modern-day concert" or "concert today". Piazzolla's passion in both tango and classical music and his vision in composing tangos that could be performed in concert halls worldwide, had inspired him to create new tango styles that blended in elements of Jazz and classical music. In the Histoire du Tango, Piazzolla not only introduced us the various styles of Tango at different times in the 20th century, but also revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style called Nuevo Tango. Concert d'aujourd'hui is a great achievement of such fusion, a new tango that incorporates chromatic harmony, displacement of accents, somewhat eccentric and less tonal melodies and also jazz-like improvisation elements, which clearly distinguished itself from the other three tangos in the Histoire.

This is Bartok. While Piazzola took extended studies in serious music genres, especially Bach and Bartok, Stravinsky, his teacher Nadja Boulanger advised him to work on Tango, that is where his real talent will flourish. So, he took the best parts from Bach and Bartok, employing counterpoint and modern sound in his compositions and he created unique music. While I think Bartok is about the end of music his conception is very much exciting and enjoyable. The only fault is that the movement is too short. It would have deserved a longer work. Well, it reminds me of the Allegro Barbaro. So, it is a Tour de Force of the Barbarian :)

I don't know whether the site is new or whether I have been slow on the up-take.
(One factor in favour of the former possibility is that the site seems to be in its infancy. One factor in favour of the latter possibility is ... me.)
A nice feature of the site is a "subscribe" (for email updates) option. I look forward to hearing news of her forthcoming recitals and concerts!
In this regard, I notice that she has rebooked for the Copenhagen Summer Festival. She is scheduled to perform the opening recital on 7 August 2022.
She had been scheduled to perform there last August, but had to withdraw because of Covid travel restrictions. Sadly, this meant that the five works she was to have performed for the first time (as far as I know) - Bach's BWV 1017 (largo and allegro), Chopin's C minor nocturne (arr Milstein), Gershwin's Three Preludes (arr Heifetz), Dvorak's Slavik Dances op 72/2 (arr Kreisler) and Ysaye's Caprice d’apres l’etude en forme de valse de Saint-Saen - remain unperformed (as far as I know). So too does Wieniawski's violin concerto #2, which she was to have given with the Macau orchestra at the beginning of last year but likewise had to cancel for the same reason.
Even as it was, Chloe's 2021 was miraculous. Her Bach double concerto was excellent, while her Lark Ascending, Richmond recital, and complete Histoire are masterpieces of the highest order. It boggles the mind to think that had it not been for covid, she would also have given us performances of those additional works.
Fingers crossed for 2022. I wish Chloe the very best of good fortune!

Every time I play music, it feels very strange and unfamiliar. However, the music begins to flow to your soul and your passion for music overwhelms your doubts for music. Your music is really emotional and you paint a vibrant painting in the audience’s mind.
