I don't mind longer reactions. It's interesting to listen to your take on these bands and songs. This progressive stuff is so good. It's art. Tool and Leprous are like siblings and Meshuggah is their evil cousin. I'd like to see you reacting on all of them. Next one from Tool could be Pneuma. Album version is awesome and there is a killer drumcam live of it, if you like that sort of thing. Keep it up man 💪

Anyone that complains about your reaction or breakdown isn't a Tool fan. Dude, that's why 99% of us watch, we get to vicariously experience that first listen to Tool but even more it's the awakening of people like you that we love to see and follow. Just think that you have only just touched the tip of an iceberg. You have a really good breakdown and description of Tool. It's organized chaos made by masters at their craft. The time signatures and polyrhythms are hard to grasp but it works and works very well. You will find the bassit, Justin, carries alot of songs through the insane rhythms Danny pulls and Adam's rifts. Maynard actually let's them write the music and then he does his lyrics and his vocals around their work.

Here we go again!! Welcome to one of the greatest bands of all time. Tool, made up of Vocalist Maynard James Keenan, Guitarist Adam Jones, Bassist Justin Chancellor, and the Octopus on Drums Mr. Danny Carry. In general Tool can be divided between their early years which had a more aggressive, angry tone and their later years which is more spiritual and reflective. Each member are elite musicians, Tool only sounds like Tool and are a genre all their own. Maynard writes all the lyrics, and his performances are on par with some of the greatest vocalists in history. He is also a vocalist for A Perfect Circle and Puscifer both of which I highly recommended to dive into. Tool fans will tell you to stay away from reacting to any of their official videos as they distract quite a bit from the songs and lyrics, I typically recommend to just listen to their music first and then on a second go around pull up the lyrics, we promise, it'll add dimension and depth to the entire experience.
Tool fans are devoted and love to watch reactions of people’s first time listening, to say they are unique doesn’t do them justice. Take your time with reactions, we don’t mind if you pause and analyze, a lot of their music is open to interpretation which is fun for all of us. Spiral out and have fun on your journey...oh and YES headphones are a must!

But the full 8 minutes build-up for the pay off when Maynard comes in with, "Overwhelmed as one would be...". Like that is the best of Tool. 15:40 - A kangaroo court is an unofficial court held by a group of people in order to try someone regarded, especially without good evidence, as guilty of a crime. The expression comes from the notion of justice proceeding "by leaps", like a kangaroo - in other words, "jumping over" (intentionally ignoring) evidence that would be in favour of the defendant.

A kangaroo court is a sham court where the person has already basically been judged guilty, it's just for show so that's the kangaroo reference. He makes lots of double metaphors, like when he says kangaroo be stoned it refers to being stoned on pot on one level but also be literally stoned (punished) by the govt. I love the lyrics because of his clever word play, pot on one level is marijuana but it also refers to hypocrisy, the pot calling the kettle black as the old aphorism goes.

I think the nice thing about Maynard's lyrics is they are open to interpretation. "The pot calling the kettle black" comes more to mind than "The devil's lettuce" personally. He even references the kettle, "when you pissed all over my black kettle"... "Black Kettle" was a native American leader of the Cheyenne people. The whole song to me has a strong "western" feel. It's hard to get into words but that twang of the guitar references some "Americana", in my opinion. To me this TOOL album has always been Psychedelic Timeless Space Cowboy Rock. That's the best I can describe it as. Also yeah that bass in the beginning reminds me of shark infested waters, danger. The, it seems to switch to the bass crying.

But focus on the snare: it keeps a rock solid beat on 2 and 4 for nearly the entire song.

@@ThomFoolery1 You know what, maybe you're right. I was lucky enough to have found tool back in the 90's. I "was OGT...back from '92.... the first EP." I got to listen to every album in order and witness how the band grew and evolved into the best band on the planet. From Maynard in his 20's pissed off and screaming to the last album when he was in his 50's and old and wise. A lot of reactors will skip around albums and not really get it. I can tell from this first reaction that you have the intellect to get it and understand the band.
If you decide to do this, start with 1993's Undertow album. They did have one before that, but go back to that after you have gone through everything else first. Its crazy to see how the band had changed.
      **BONUS**
If you do this, the Tool army will show up and your channel will explode.
      **WARNING**
Listening to Tool will cause other bands to sound simple and boring.

Adam, Justin, and Danny jam and bounce ideas around, and slowly cpose all the music. Then the give it to Maynard, who writes lyrics to accompany the music. He might ask for a section to be repeated or extended. So the goes through another creative phase, because they aren't content with just repeating a bit. The music evolves throught the length of the track.
Adam has said that they're often surprised by MJK's vocals, either leaving an expected lyric section as instrumental, or signing over unexpected sections.
And every song is different. And no song is bad.
But, honestly, Tool is more than just those four musicians. I would argue that their audio engineer and their lighting designer are essential.

This song is a perfect example of what you can do with a basic 4/4 rhythm. It took a few listens till I got the hang of it because the vocals in the intro are in triplets. It's all in 4/4 until the section after the second chorus.

This song just does it for me. So dynamic, great lyrics, great vocals, harsh but melodic. I don’t know what genre this is, but i could listen to it all day. Found your channel this morning via Ren, another favorite, who is also dynamic, great lyrics and voice, melody, but totally different. For me, genre isn’t important if the components are there. Subbed. ♥️Also, i liked this format of reacting then analyzing. Thank you.

This is actually one of the few Tool songs that's mostly in 4/4 but the rhythm trips you up, it's cool you noticed how "simple" the production is it's one of my favourite things about the band, they produce complex and incredibly thoughtful music but when you break it down it's just guitar, bass, drums, the production was very smart keeping it so simple.
This song is probably the most forward you'll hear the singing, Maynard prefers to sit in amongst or behind the music and you'll notice it tells the story of the song just as much as the lyrics do.
A life changing band for many including myself, if you're doing more i can't wait to see how you react, there aren't any bad Tool songs.

For me the song brings about the imagery of being in the courtroom. It really feels like a play is being performed. Maynard as a defendant on possession charges (obviously.) While the instruments play the parts of the other members of the court. At first he is thinking to himself about the absurdity that he is being tried by people who are very likely also guilty of his crime. The instruments enter slowly as the room fills in. He immediately gets aggressive towards the court pointing out the hypocrisy. The judge cuts him off with the rapid banging of the gavel. Adam's guitar is the voice of the judge admonishing him for speaking out. This sets the defendant off. Now throwing accusations at the lawyers and jury as well. There are times you can almost hear the them fighting back and fourth. The louder he gets, the louder the court gets to yell over him. But after most outbursts he stops and we just hear the court. At the 3:40 mark the judge tries to calm him. Tells him he understands his frustration. But there is nothing he can do and he is sorry, and it is time for the jury to deliberate and decide his fate. The defendant is thinking "yeah, I can tell you are really upset. Spare me your crocodile tears. I shouldn't even be in courtroom. And if you aren't a hypocrite, why am I still here?" The jury comes back from deliberation. He is at first hopeful, but he knows he was going to be found guilty no matter what. So his rage builds quickly. Ending with him screaming at the court as he is forcefully drug out of the room.

Love yr approach to experiencing this song. TOOL is their own genre. Their song writing process is fairly unique. The music is 100% DONE and then Maynard puts lyrics to each song. That's kinda crazy to think about. When you mentioned Danny hitting a crash to accent Maynard's vocal part, it was actually Maynard placing his vocals to accent Danny! These guys really are a different thing entirely. Spiral out, keep going
