I run my radio off a battery. There is a charger and a timer connected to the battery. The charger runs at night. No problem with noise. I can charge the battery off my car if necessary. If you depend on a grid-connected power supply and the grid goes down. you are in trouble. Being up and running in an emergency is one reason for being a ham.

In our club station we had an Alinco power supply, among others, and was never able to find any RF hash. So I have no reservations about that model. We ran most of the gear there from a big Astron 70 amp supply. I used to joke that you could jump start an 18-wheeler with that thing! It took two of us to lift it from the dolly to the desk top when we installed it. Like picking up an engine block.

Hello DAVE; Good video sir. I have no idea what type of a power supply he's referring to but I have an Alinco PS on 4 radios & my stuff is as quiet as a church service. 73's, TMP, Unit 22 from N.J.

Hi Dave, I am running the new Rig Expert ShackMaster 30A power supply.... made for Ham Radio... No birdies... very clever design and visual information provided, I give it 5 stars. They did a great job on this power supply's design and build. I hope one day you can review it on the channel. Keep Up the great work on the channel Old Man. 73 Art W1SWL

    Howdy.
I would like to mention another possibility.
If there is only electrolytics as output filtering it could be that the Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) is too high to knock down the hash. I would suggest connecting a plastic cap. say 220 nano-Farad (nF) over the output. That will show really low ESR to any hash.
And to knock down any residual RF one may add a 1 nF ceramic cap. still. A gourmet setup.
However. This happened to me in one of my own designs. The ESR was so low that the switching transistors blew at start up.
    High Regards.

    Thank you, Dave.
All my power supplies are built for ham radio, and I have to battery boosters.
I have operated off battery power the last three years or so.

My power supply in the shack is also the Samlex SEC-1235M. In my portable kit I have a Samlex SEC-1223BBM, to allow seamless connection with a 55 ah AGM battery. And yes, I've tested this function. AC power can be lost and restored without so much as a blink of the lights on the ham gear. I have a SEC-1223 just as a spare. Did I say I like Samlex supplies?

Palomar in my opinion is the best , they’re 300A amplifiers had a plug-in transformer that hummed awful but good amp.
