Who's not independent these days. The internet is killing labels because now there's a new platform for pushing your music out to the world. And when you're a vet like Joe and people already know you...its a no-brainer.
Funny how well known R&B males from Maxwell,Joe,Musiq SoulChild, Jahiem,Avant, & etc. . . it went from them. . to now the standards of R&B is Chris Brown style of music only. . and maybe Trey Songs. . . but its like you can't get that *"adult feeling & passion"* from Breezy & Trey Songs. . . like you can with the late 90s & earlier 00's R&B artist. . . But maybe that's just me though. . its like R&B is not as laid back and relaxing like it used to be. . its all upbeat/pop-ish now. .
Why is it that none of these artists ever talk about them not selling albums? Why should a label keep you around if you aren't selling? It's a business. Most of our favorite r&b singers have been dropped from major labels because their style of r&b is a thing of the past and age. Shoot, I'm surprised that they haven't dropped Maxwell after all this time. I've also learned that music is an investment so if ya'll want Joe and them to stay around, ya'll gotta buy the music or else they gon end up throwing drinks on reality tv.

I hope he does more interviews with people like Breakfast Club or Sway. He's been putting out quality albums very consistently every other year or two but the promotion doesn't seem to follow.

its still out there, its just harder to get our music heard, so we do mostly small clubs and venues
