Champagne Problems is probably one of her best songs ever…it’s from her album Evermore which is the sister album to Folklore, which is where Cardigan is from. You guys should totally check it out when you get a chance. Love your videos by the way!

Taylor always had these deep and meaningful songs. it's just that she always picked the poppy songs to be the singles that everyone hears everywhere because that creates the most talk. but her deep cuts are always great. you should really check out her albums folklore and evermore. they are great.

Here's the thing with Taylor. She is very versatile and she is an album artist. She tends to pick the more pop / radio friendly songs as single. 20% is straight fun pop and everything else is more lyrics driven

🌟btw "cardigan" "augest" "betty" These three songs from her album folklore explore a love triangle from all three people’s perspectives at different times in their lives.her talent just blows my mind 🔥

This song is from her album Folklore. She released it last year and she wrote all the songs herself during quarantine. Some songs from that album, including Cardigan, are made up stories. She was inspired by movies, books and some other things that made her create stories that later became songs. Some of them are actually about personal stuff she went through, like My Tears Ricochet (a personal favorite)

This song has many layers. It’s about both her music career/dedicated to her fans. But it’s also part of a trilogy off this album Cardigan, August, Betty and Cardigan is Betty’s POV
You got it right in the beginning her opening line is a call back to her previous records. Giving me your weekends is fans choosing to go to her shows. Playing hide and seek is the constant “easter egg hunt” fans play - figuring out her secret messages.

  • @JackieWarner13
    @JackieWarner13 Před 2 lety +46

This is from last years album folklore (there's a sister album called Evermore she released few months after folklore) most of the songs aren't really about her it's about others. On this album she has 3 songs that are about different point of views from 3 people in a love triangle. Cardigan, August & Betty are the songs
On November 12 she's releasing her album Red (Taylor's Version) you should react to All Too Well 10 minute version. A lot of fans say All Too Well is her best written song because of the story it tells. She hasn't released the 10 minute version before only the 5 & half minute version.

Taylor knows no limits. He is constantly growing and amazes us. That is her unique weapon and her greatest strength. Composing and writing lyrics, especially, I think Taylor has a natural ability to write. It's amazing. 'How did you come up with such a word?' 'Do you even use such a word?!' It's so beautiful. But now to the supervisory area, wow, she keeps making me look forward to it.👏👏

You should NOT be surprised. As a musician myself (rock guitarist in my mid 40s) I can tell you thatTaylor Swift is a fantastic musician and one of the best songwriters of all time. NOT because of her lyricism (as many say here) but because of her sense of melody and harmony. You should listen to her music BEFORE the 1989 album (which contained Shake It Off). Also, Shake It Off is atypical of the 1989 album, which is a Masterpiece. I implore you to listen to Story Of Us, Enchanted, State Of Grace, Red, Trouble, Wildest Dreams, How You Get The Girl, Getaway Car, Me, Lover, Christmas Tree Farm and Cardigan to get an impression of her melodic genius and versatility. Also listen to the City of Lover live show in Paris (on CZcams) and watch the three Acoustic numbers she plays (on guitar and piano). She is a class act.

She is well known as a POP ARTIST, And her singles , But actually if you dive deep in her discography you will know that she has always been an excellent songwriter. She started as a cluntry artist then ventured into pop which catapulted her into success. But now she's changed genres once again.
She is definitely an Album artist hopefully you will listen to her albums :)
Folklore and Evermore are good way to start

Ever since Taylor’s Reputation album, she has chosen some of the weaker songs to promote as singles which is unfortunate bc people then think the whole album sounds like that. Which is why I feel like ppl underestimate her talent even tho she has always been an amazing writer. Even when looking back at her first album which she wrote in her early teens, you can see her skills. I’m glad people have started to appreciate her as a singer and lyricist more. Truly best songwriter of this generation.

You should listen the Folklore album. It’s amazing. This is one song that’s part of a trilogy. It’s Betty, August and Cardigan. All the songs are on the Folklore album. Maybe you should listen to those next? Also, Taylor does concept albums so it’s best to listen to one album at a time.

  • @Starbuck-dr7yl
    @Starbuck-dr7yl Před 2 lety +15

Nice you guys! I’m new to Taylor’s music, I’m in my 50’s and I kinda missed the Taylor craze. But during pandemic, with this album, I set out to learn about her music, why she was so popular. I found she really is a 5-star songwriter. I just never knew. The critics seemed to know but I had never listened to an album of hers before. The past 1 year I have now listened to her entire catalog and have been blown away. Folklore and evermore are just outstanding. If you guys would h be enough for something a bit longer, the Long Pond Studio Sessions is the album folklore but she discusses each song and her songwriting, and because pandemic the album was put together without anyone ever being in the same room, and on some cases having never met before. This documentary on Disney plus, which she directed, is the first time the 3 main collaborators were ever in the same room and they play the album acoustic. It’s very nice. I think you’d like it and see Taylor in a new way other than Shake it Off.
If you are not ready for that, Champagne Problems and My Tears Ricochet, and I think you’d like the lyric video to Marjorie, about her grandmother and the lyric video has gone movies with her grandmother and Taylor, it’s a very touching song especially with the video.

This song is about her listeners and fans always coming back to her and being the reason why she keeps making music. "I felt like I was an old cardigan under someone's bed" being that the music industry and celebrity drama causing the public to discard her and defame her (the kim/kanye drama) then when she released new music "you put me on and said I was your favorite" being the listeners. Another good example of this metaphor is seen in Mirrorball where its about how she is still trying her best to give a show to her fans during the pandemmie.

I never thought about it being about her music but now I'm convinced especially because it's the 1st song of her venture into this folky style. to me, it reflects her journey away from the country but ultimately kinda coming back to it with folk. this whole idea of this old cardigan being her roots in music. the playing hide and seek and giving me your weekends being her going back to her country in only small portions throughout her career like doing one of her older songs on her tours. then the part with the leaving like a father running like water being her trying to leave her older music behind. then all those lyrics about lingering like a tattoo kiss
, haunting all of my what-ifs, smoke would hang around this long being about this possible desire to go back to her roots pulling at her for a long time. then finally coming back to her musical roots with her two sister albums. I think it makes the perfect opener for this era.

There are 3 songs - August, Betty and Cardigan from her 8th studio album "Folklore"....Taylor has written these songs from the perspective of people who were in a love triangle.
Cardigan is from the perspective of Betty.
Betty is from the perspective of James.
August is from the perspective of the other girl who James had a summer fling with.
Also the video of the single "Willow" from her 9th Studio album "Evermore" is the continuation of this video. It isn't part of the love triangle but the storyline of the video is continued in that.

I just got recommended this channel, this was a great video, you guys got a new sub.
Taylor Swift a very hardcore fandon is big part because her music is mostly lyric driven, and her melodies/bridges are some of the best of all time, so we really connect with her.
She has had some amazing deep lyrics even before 1989 (the album with Shake It Off) but her last 2 albums Folklore and Evermore were a turn to a more indie genre.
If I had to suggest some of her best songs to people that don't know much of her music I would probably even recommend some live stuff simply because she tends to be better live than in her albums, so:
-Blank Space (from 1989) live in the Grammy Museum
    -Tolerate It (from Evermore)
-Don't Blame Me (from Reputation) live in the Reputation Tour.
-Death By a Thousand Cuts live from Paris
    -Illicit Affairs (from Folklore).

Ya'll did pretty good on figuring some of it out. Cardigan, August, and Betty are a teenage love triangle on this album, Cardigan is Betty's point of view, August is the other girl and Betty is from James's point of view. The names James, Inez (in the song Betty), and Betty are the names of Ryan Renolds 3 daughters, Betty (Ryan is friends with Betty White) was born last fall but they kept her name a secret, Taylor is friends with Ryan and his wife Blake Lively (model) and this is the way to let the world know their 3rd daughter's name. Taylor also used James's voice saying gorgeous at the beginning of her song Gorgeous from her Reputation Album, Apparently, Ryan and Blake had been visiting Taylor and she played the song for them and their daughter kept repeating the word gorgeous, Taylor thought it was cute and asked them if she could use James's voice. Also, Ryan had a cameo in Taylor's MV You Need To Clam Down from her Lover Album. Taylor's last 2 albums were done during the pandemic and on top of that she is re-recording her first 6 albums, her music was sold out from under her, she had wanted to own the rights but Big Machine, Scott Brochetta said she would have to record one new album to get back one old one, she walked away. Then Scott sold them to Scooter Braun for $300 million dollars (he has since sold them to someone else), so Taylor is re-recording them and they are called Taylor's Version, and she has added the vault songs that didn't make it on those albums. She already has dropped Fearless, and come Nov 12th I believe, her album Red Taylor's Version is dropping. On her new albums "folklore" and "evermore" there are references in some of the songs about previous events in her life, but a lot of the songs are just stories. Notice I did not capitalize folklore and evermore, that is because Taylor did that intentionally. One more tidbit, she has been dating a British actor for a few years now, Joe Alwyn (all win), he is referenced in her songs, and in evermore, he had a part in creating some of the songs. If you decide to delve into these 2 masterpieces, start with folklore at the beginning, and then evermore (willow has a MV).

I agree with everyone!! You should react to Betty and August after this!! Taylor is a STORYTELLING MASTER. The layers and personal details she puts into her music, production, background, arrangements, visuals, and marketing? She is a genius. A quiet genius.

Taylor actually knows Joni, and sang at her induction to the rock and roll hall of fame!! She really is a classic artist and credits both of them as influences. Joni calls her a musical daughter! It's the best 👌

Even years ago she had great music but those songs are not the ones you hear on the radio. She is a lyrical genius and has been since she was 12 or 13. She has also written many songs for other artists that became hits. Check out this live performance (& playing piano) of "All Too Well" at the 2014 Grammys: czcams.com/video/XB7noMnaGO8/video.html I'm an "old lady" who's been loving you old dudes reactions, and I just subscribed!

Also. Good catch on music saving her. This song is actually rumored to be a love song to her fans.... if you think of the context of the media shit storm she went through and the amount of 1st album fans who turned on her due to it. She came back with Reputation and she was bigger than ever. "And when I felt like I was an old cardigan.." when she thought everyone abandoned her "you put me on and said I was your favorite" she sold out an all stadium tour with Rep... she also says, "I knew you'd come back to me" because even when people didn't "like" her, you still heard her music everywhere and like you said, how can you not enjoy a fun pop song like shake it off? Literally. A genius. She is thanking us as fans for always loving her. ❤️
