I taught myself how to knit socks , before CZcams! What I finally landed on that works best for me is 2 - 24” circular needles.

I'm currently working on a sweater that I'm regauging to accommodate all the purple skeins of sock yarn I bought to knit a fade for my tween niece. I look forward to following along with your DIY fave-sweatshirt-to-sweater project!

I love the color card. Silly me, I've just been buying a skein every time I want a color, or that's what I'll tell my husband. 😂 The tea cozies were epic~ wow! That was amazing. I don't get fashion, and some of it is taking me right back to middle school and that's not happening again. haha! All the best, Kimberly

I completely agree - DK is an awesome weight. It just makes nice fabric! 😅
I am a loose knitter also on metal needles (addi) BUT since i started using good quality (expensive) wooden needles ( indian lake artisan are my faves but addi olivewood are lovely also), I've had to completely readjust my expectations for my gauge 'cause on those needles I tend to be right on with gauge or even tight! The needles are an absolute pleasure to knit with so now I'm slowly building my collection of each brand every birthday and Christmas!
Edited: So cool to hear my tea cozies email! I am a tea aficionado and I have successfully converted all my friends to tea drinkers as well (even the die hard coffee lovers!) Sadly, none of them have felt the call to start knitting even though they love seeing my knitting😢

Flying back from Mexico last week my bffs metal needles were taken and thrown in the trash with reckless abandon! Fortunately my wooden ones with metal tips went through unscathed.

I learned sock knitting on DPNs & tried magic loop & 9” circular. I don’t like magic loop because I don’t like pulling the cord all the time.
I’ve been knitting socks the past couple years using Addi FlexiFlips & love using them. You have to think of them as magic loop or using 16” needles. I also like that the Addi FlexiFlips have 2 different points on each needle. I’ve also used them for starting Musselburgh hats or for sleeves.

About international airport security and metal knitting needles: flying from Istanbul last year the security woman confiscated my ENTIRE set of Chiaogoo interchangeable needles. I had forgotten to pack them in my checked bag. (Kicked myself while crying!) She let me keep the case, but I was heartbroken. The French also took my metal needles once. I learned the hard way to carry wood or bamboo needles. Mine are interchangeables. I unscrew my needles from my project, use the stoppers, and put the needle tips in my purse with pens/pencils wrapped in a rubber band until I board the plane. The X-ray can’t tell it’s not a pencil.
Great episode, Devin, as usual. I believe I saw your gauge tool on the Modern Daily Knitting website. I love your yarn and can’t wait to see August yarn of the month!

    Hi!
I started knitting socks on DPNs. I moved to magic loop after a year. Now I currently start my cuffs with magic loop and then switch to DPNS after a couple of rows. I think it is easier on my hands and looks much nicer. If I’m traveling, I knit the sock completely in magic loop.

A thousand thank yous for elaborating on my comment on last weeks episode. 3-16” circulars? 🤔 Now I have to buy those just try and figure out how you use them. Of course a video showing a round would be very welcome (I’ll check the Tube and see if someone has offered that).
I’d never considered that metal needles might be confiscated on a European flight as I, like you, travel with metal needles on domestic flights all the time and have never once been questioned. I do pare down my selection to only the bare minimum for the flight itself and put all the “overkill” 😂 in checked baggage.
I’m looking forward to comments from your/our online knitting club (and still can’t wait to meet some of you at the retreat).

I was watching/listening to the podcast & went to click to check my email when I heard you say, 'Always Yarn First' I answered out loud 'what'. 🤣 It's like you caught me not fully paying attention. 🤣

Loved the episode!! I am currently going through my yarn and office. I bought a beautiful curio cabinet today to display my yarn in. I am glad the Corgi learned the lesson with just her crying. Thanks for spending time with me while I go through yarn and my office.

That was fun! Interesting how different yarn bases take the dye! Thanks for sharing that with us. I am knitting socks and how i loved the 9 inch needles. Well, my hands cramped and now I have half the stitches on one circular and half on another. Wow! I'm knitting much faster. I say whatever works use. Have a great week.

I Love your color Card! International travel. Mexico will take any needles or hooks you try to leave their country with. Leaving only.. I have been successful leaving Mexico with “mini” Interchangeables if I take them off the cord and hide put the needles in with my makeup. Once on the plane - you are A-Okay. Knit away. The airlines don’t care buy those Mexican Airline security folks have a lot of Aunties and Grammies who craft. lol. 😂

@TheKnittyKats I’ve also heard people say that they hide their interchangeable tips with pens and pencils in their purse, perhaps in a little pencil pouch, and managed to get them through. I have no personal experience with that, though. I wonder if wooden needles draw even less attention?

I love watching your podcast, but I just have to ask how do you knit on 3 16" circular needles. I've heard of 2, which is like magic loop. Maybe one podcast you can demonstrate that technique, you are a great knitter. Thanks for another awesome episode.

Three 16” circulars: do you have live stitches on only two of these, and the third is your working needle? Would love to hear more about this.
