The younger sister is mentally/emotionally stuck as a little girl, you can even see it in her mannerisms and how she speaks wow trauma is so deep😢😢
I can relate to the younger sister is exactly how my older sisters are like especially my middle sister. My middle sister is toxic. Very much manipulative my sister is.
It is interesting to me that the people who call for Iyanla to come are the ones with the most work to do on themselves.
I think sometimes those who cause most of the dysfunction in groups are perfect in their own eyes. It’s almost good that those who feel perfect expect others to be perfect. I believe Thats why they call the show. They do not think they are responsible for the dysfunction. The human brain is easily conditioned by outside voices, and mostly our own voices, telling us we are perfect. Once all cards are on the table, when everyone has the same experience with “perfect” you, is when the “pattern” can be interrupted. Watching Iyanla & hearing these stories has changed me forever!

I'm commenting from my husbands page I'm 27 and also black and stopped talking to them trauma is real I have been depressed for 19 years this ain't normal and self hate isn't normal I been happier since I stopped stopped talking to them my own sister hit me in the back of the head with a statue and everything them people never loved me and I'm over it my mental health matters to me
Break it and don’t turn back! I’ve left my family behind as well. I was mistreated for calling out generational curses. My life is so much happier now!
Geneva was already broken when Barbra took her in. It must have been extremely difficult to raise & guide her especially because Barbra was a child herself.
I honestly love how passionately Iyanla brings out the emotions out of these people. So professional, inspiring and gutsy.

That is intentional on the producer’s part to highlight stories that deal with this family dynamic since it’s so taboo but frequent in the black community.

Both of the sisters were under the age 18, you can't blame the older sister for not raising the younger sister correctly. where was the mother and father?
@@imanimorgan4235 Their mother had 18 children. She moved in with her sister when she was 14, her older sister was 17. The younger sister already had a baby when she moved in with her sister. Was the older sister misguided... Very! Do I think she's solely to blame for her younger sisters behavior.... No! I'm willing to bet all 18 of them had a horrible experience living with their mother, the dysfunction runs deeper then just a sibling rivalry. This is a case of the blind leading the blind 😩.
@@Dontarguewithme.I don’t think this session was about placing blame on the sister but them making her realize just as proudly as you are to have saved your younger sister, you also subjected her to repeated violations at the hands of your boyfriend in an environment you created and controlled. That unfortunately has nothing to do with their mother but the sister’s own selfish actions. Although I agree with you she still isn’t solely the blame.

What kind of mother would allow her 17-year-old to raise her 14-year-old? The mother is solely to blame for this one. It's easy to look at them at their big ages now and say the older sister is to blame but we got to remember the older sister was only 17 at the time. I expect a 17-year-old to make bad decisions regarding the safety of a 14-year-old. I'm more concerned of how a mother could think a child that was 3 years older than her 14-year-old could raise her😳
@@Dontarguewithme. yes I agree the mother (and father) are the most to blame. However the ask of Iyanla in this process was to amended the relationship between sisters. That requires them to address what they’ve specifically done to each other. That has nothing to do with their parents.
@@msawmusic if most of the tension between them occurred when they were both under 18 it has everything to do with their parents. I think that's the reason why nothing really got resolved. Iyanla just touched the surface but not root of the dysfunction. They're probably gonna need intensive long-term counseling 😩 God bless her but Iyanla can only do so much in so little time😁
Every Lyanla episode touches my heart and even makes me tear up because she has a way of being a great motivation coach reaching into the souls of people and bring the best out of them to change their lives its truly a beautiful thing to see

It amazes me that no one is speaking on the Mother who was responsible for the 18 children that she chose to birth.
Iyanla is notorious for not holding the bio parents, especially the mother responsible and accountable.
Iyanla only offers healing to those that want it. A woman who can’t read or write and had 18 children whether she could care for them or not has problems too big for Iyanla to solve anyway. Do you even know if she’s alive? Iyanla did help the sisters and daughters see the generational dysfunction and pathology that passed down from generation to generation in their own family, which is a huge awakening.

The woman who birthed the children was not present. What would you have wanted them to do, if she wasn’t there? She holds Mothers responsible all the time. Furthermore, a woman who had 18 children..unable to read and write…you can already deduce she’s gone through a lot and did a lot.

You can still see the 14 year old little girl in Geneva every time she speaks the elder sister is in so much denial and a lier she's very bitter and broken I pray she can face the truth forgive herself and her sister 🙌🏾♥️

They remained together for years, even after Geneva left with two of the three kids that she had with him. They are my 1st cousins!!
Geneva was NEVER VIOLATED, they were in a RELATIONSHIP!!! Before she moved in with Barbara, She was in a (so called) relationship with (one of) their brother’s best friend & she got pregnant by him but had a miscarriage.

This is not true. The younger sister was violated and became pregnant when she lived with their bio mother. AND the younger sister wanted a baby daddy/man for herself and seduced Barbara's boyfriend because he took good care of her. AND don't forget Barbara is only eight years older so she was just as clueless about being a decent role model as their bio mother. You people and Iyanla have no business blaming Barbara for her damaged sister's behavior.

The pain in all their eyes is so evident. My heart weeps for these women and their tragic experiences with not only abusive men, but with those who were supposed to protect them. Lord please cover them all with peace and healing.
I wonder how they choose which people to call back. They can only help so many, and each season can only film so many episodes. It would be interesting to know how they choose which ones need the help the most.
The older sister probably should have left the younger sister to be raised by adults
BUT they both were being violated while they were being raised by adults.
I think the younger sister would have become pregnant multiple times before adulthood regardless of whom she was raised by.
But her mother had 16 other children so who knows if it was any better with her mother

at a certain point “not being taught” isn’t an excuse. You are aware. Being aware from being in the situation makes you evil.
I think from what I’ve learned about people is that either, what you said, that their aware and don’t chose to change or sadly some people just aren’t emotionally intelligent to realize that they don’t have healthy coping skills to process emotions. Which in turn gets passed down to their children and so continues the cycle. It’s all about being heard and validated. Also about speaking with purpose and forgiveness and complete honesty
Just because you’re aware doesn’t mean you’ll make the right choice. You have to be taught.
