    Those poor canadian lads trying their hardest only knowing you are going to lose, and lose badly! Game after game. Tough to do well when you don't have the coaching, the training, the experience, the tradition, or even a player base to draw from. Probably one out of ten competitive rugby players make the team. And such effort given by them in a sport that requires such extreme effort. Well tried boys!

    The amazing Reinach try (5:24) started at a ruck in Boks' own 22. Absolutely magnificent cross kick from Elton Jantjies, hitting Gelant in full stride. He side-steps the tackler and a two quick passes later it's a try. What an A-class skill exhibition from everyone involved.

      @@JTM1809 facts ! I feel he gets quite abit of hate as a flyhalf.. kicks aren't always the greatest but his cross kicks are clinical . I've seen him do some blinding of load passes tho .

    • @JTM1809
      @JTM1809 Před 2 lety +2

      @@timbtunes7730 Elton always delivered at Super Rugby level. I mean he saw his team reach three consecutive Super Rugby finals. You can't do that with a weak, or even average fly half. And that has been Elton's problem, because - empirically - everybody knew he had the quality and the potential to deliver at the international level ... yet for a long time he hadn't. With time he developed the reputation of an international choker, a guy who's psychologically unable to be his best self at the international level.
      I'm going to be honest: I was one of those doubters. I just thought he had reached a point where it was a mental block for him. What many people don't realize is, that Elton's attempts to break out of his international shell coincided with the worst era of Springbok rugby.
      Then I read an interview with Swys de Bruin, and was surprised at how staunchly he defended Elton and his abilities. That gave me a serious pause. If a guy like Swys de Bruin (who only yesterday forgot more about rugby, than I will ever know) says that Elton is an international level talent, who is just the kind of a delicate flower and needs a personalized approach by a coach, who will be able to untap his potential, who am I to say otherwise.
      And in retrospect, it made sense. Elton is a free-flowing attacking fly half. He wasn't going to flourish under old school tactician and bully like Heyneke Meyer, and he wasn't going to flourish under Allister Coetzee, whose attack strategy might have been genius, but a) it was so complicated, only a handful of people on the planet were able to understand it, and b) this is a disaster for Elton, who needs to be given free reign and play what he sees in front of him, not a rigid complicated system he needs to conform to.
      But when Rassie became the head coach, I knew this was a huge chance for Elton. Rassie has both high IQ as well as empathy and understands the psychology of top athletes. And the rest is history. He developed two separate gameplans for his two fly halves: the tactical game for Pollard, who's an excellent game controller and the superior kicker and ball runner, and the free-flowing game for Elton, where he surrounded him with good support runners able to run angles for the gaps Elton opens. The result was the golden medal at the 2019 RWC.
      Elton passed his international test: he came on field in the memorable 2018 victory over the ABs in Wellington, and created one of the Boks tries. He even tackled. And then he took the helm during the initial game of the 2019 TRC vs. Australia, which showed everyone he can win an international game on his own, in a hostile environment, when there's a lot on the line. And the monkey was off his back for good.

    I have an idea for something that can help a tier 2/3 nation improve, let me know what you guys think. South Africa (or another Tier 1 nation) could send a team to play in their league. A brand new team, not one of the established franchises. And they stay in the league of that Tier 2/3 nation. I`m sure South Africa could put together a team of guys who have no contract with another franchise and that would be very competitive against the teams in the tier 2/3 nations. This would give these nations` players regular exposure to Tier 1 nation level rugby, not just every 4 years. Also, because this team won`t be the best of South Africa, the matches will be tighter, meaning they will actually learn, because I don`t think you learn as much from a blowout victory than from a tight contest.

    Why does it take so long to get the extended highlights out? The Cricket World Cup could get the highlights out the same day (7 or so hours out within a couple of hours of the end of the match)The BBC can get the highlights of all Premiership matches out the same day and that's about 10 matches which mostly finish by 17:00 and broadcast Match of the Day about 22:00 (2 or 3 of those matches are extended highlights and the rest are just the significant events).

    It's nt gud for rugby that 1st tier nations only play 2nd/3rd tier nations once evry 4 yrs. Well done bokke but I see potential in Canada

      Agreed. It should be mandatory that a tier 1 nation play a tier 2 nation once a year and have them compete in domestic competitions

      I agree, even if it's just for a game like a friendly... or some charity event.

      Yes because nothing draws crowds like springboks vs canada, these guys are already playing way too much rugby every year and if they play super rugby its even worse with all the travelling. Its just not reasonable to expect these top tier nations to play sympathy games with all the up and coming nations, I agree with including them in domestic competitions or maybe they could play a second string international against a team of players from a country who weren't selected for their national side, but I can't see why they should be forced once a year to go and dominate a tier 3 nation.

      Meh it’s tough because teams tier 2/3 teams are not getting the experience they need to compete with the t1 teams, but when they do finally get a chance to practise they just always lose and the stadiums don’t sell near the amount of tickets that tier 1 va tier 1 sells

    There should be world cup every at least every 2 years , bring up / harmonise - standards , get all standards of teams playing against each other more often , instead of a shock to the system every 4 years

    Canada and the USA could really be power houses in Rugby if only money could be invested in the sport out there. Tough game Canada, but you played with heart!
