Terraria 1.4.1, but Obsidian Armor makes Summoner viable

- There we have it. Obsidian Armor turned into a complete powerhouse... and for a good reason. Pre-Hardmode (and even some of Hardmode) as Summoner is no longer a struggle, as you can destroy (and I mean DESTROY) stuff with ultra-powered whips. Even after a quick nerf.

this makes me wish this wasn't the final update really, whips are such a good introduction and i honestly think there should be more armor sets that are whip-based to go alongside the main progression of a summoner, all of which gravitating towards whips, but still giving a few extra minions/minion damage
Forbidden Armor could have been moved to be whip-based instead of a hybrid magic and summoner armor, I think that would have been great.
...speaking of does anyone *actually* use forbidden armor? Because I stick to class specific damage, and whips exist, Forbidden Armor is just the worst.

If we were to talk about potential whip armors, OOA definitely could have had, say, Monk-Shinobi to be reworked towards that
Honestly, the while actually doing damage themselves, rather than just tag damage, defeats the entire idea of a 'summoner'. I've no idea why they added a Melee weapon type and called it summon damage.
@@nssheepster To be fair is there really a better option for a summoner's weapon? I like being able to attack along with the summon's instead of just running around like before, I dunno.
@@schmingbeefin4473 Thorium has banners, and Fargo's Mod has direct attack summons. Sure, the banners are just support tools, but still.
I'm certain that other mods have their own unique summon support systems as well.

Since EoL in day basically nullifies any need of defense, obsidian armor just seems even more viable now in a summoner run.
unless using Hallowed armor, which lets you dodge some hits here and there on a cooldown
True, but I guess it's up to personal exchange. Obsidian armor can end the fight quicker while hallowed armor can improve survivability.
Spooky armor and even tiki, gives much more damage and minion capacity so there isn't any need to use obsidian at that stage
Stardust is THE best summoner armor for minions regardless and offers the highest damage boost and you get a free Star Plat- I mean Star Guardian

Still bad if I remember it right. I had to switch back to spider so I wouldn't waste my ammo on annoying i-frames. Plus acid venom is just WAY too good

Well, there are light pet big fairies, but regular ones are a lot more elegant for sure
personally my favorite light pet is the empress of light one

Well, you can catch Fairies and then release them underground and they'll follow you around. They'll fly off when they find treasure and disappear, sure but you can catch more.

It's still amazing even after the nerf before you could get away with only using whips pretty sure you still can lol. Really like how this armor made whips more viable as the summon tag damage or multiplier from the fire cracker is already enough to make your summons very powerfull.

You think you're going to get something awesome, but then they send you the nerfed version.
To be fair, even nerfed version is pretty chonky investment. A few numbers lowered didn't change the spirit of whipping everything to death
Considering the dmg buff was like the third highest of all armours for summoners, it was needed
Nerf doesn't matter, still better than Tiki Armor for Golem. I'm not kidding.

It would actually be pretty neat if more armors were like Obsidian and even Hallowed armor, so they served a niche outside of their respective "tiers" instead of becoming absolutely worthless immediately upon finding the next armor.

@@miguelantonioteodorodossan278 it's most likely that you have such a wide variety of different damage types that make the battle harder. Try focusing your armor and accessories on a certain damage type, should be possible with orichalcum armor

The obsidian outlaw armor is one of my favorite armor sets for vanity uses, I just think it looks really good looking

EoW strategy is actually useable in FtW Master mode, but you have to build the boulder tower Really high up. Thank you for showing me this strat; boulders are super useful in the early game for getting rid of stone and also during invasions and other events where you wanna stay inside the safety of a house while killing groups of enemies.
