    Remember: This is just my opinion. If you disagree and prefer any of the main series games and feel the need to tell me why you disagree with me, then that's perfectly fine. All I want to ask is for you to be respectful in your comment. I very much do enjoy the main series games and I tried to convey that repeatedly throughout this video... I just prefer Colosseum myself :)
    Hope u enjoyed the video, even if you disagree.

    I would kill for a Colosseum anime. Colosseum's story is already solid and stands out compared to the rest of the franchise, so just imagine how much more it could be expanded on in a anime season or movie. I remember when I was a kid, finding that one fan made poster for a Colosseum anime on Google and just staring at it for hours thinking about what could be.

      Idk if posting third party links is against TOS, but "Pokémon Colosseum: The Animated Adventure" is actually what I based this thumbnail on. This one site has a bunch of cool screenshots that look just like a real anime. No wonder I couldn't find any video footage if it's fanmade😅

      There is a Colosseum Manga out there, I THINK it's official but follows a different story iirc.

    I always randomly think of this Game whenever Pokemon has disappointed me, lol. The Graphics looked so amazing during that time and it represented the 3D poke Game I always wanted and thought the series would move forward in....so I was wrong hahaha but it seems like we are finally getting some fresh experiences with the latest Arceus Game with it's open area design (which I am loving).
    Nice Video!

    For me SW/SH were very disappointing games. Unless one already has a large fan base view counts can be very, very difficult to get as there's absurd competition. As someone that views Pokemon content there's only so much I can watch before getting tired of whatever's new. Not to mention 30+ notifications on the same content. Colosseum and XD are really fun and I'd love a full proper remake like HG/SS and ORAS. If anyone wants there's a rom-hack called Grand Colosseum with has up to Gen 6 mechanics and a lot of changes

    • @WordsOfWisdomForReal
      @WordsOfWisdomForReal  Před 2 lety +1

      Sword and Shield were very disappointing to many, but I personally had a fun time completing the dex and such.
      And yeah I feel you, as soon as a new game comes out everybody pumps out as much content as they can to get the views, which oversaturates the market a lot. The thing is, I myself don't care about my viewcount, I just don't want people subbing that won't watch😅 This video is the best performing video in the last 10, which just proves the point I am making in this video.
      Also i'll look up that hack, never heard of it and would love to play some more Colosseum. Thank u👍

    Cant believe I didnt get a notification here until I found this video today.
    Anyways, the main thing I dont like/care for recent Pokemon games is the decisive/ *poisoned* fanbase.
    Not trying to be controversial, but I got tired of watch this channel called Joshscorcher bc he n his wife used favoritism for Gen 5 & 8 and dont bring any attention to the other gens. Come on people, stop with the favoritism and like/hate all the Gens Equally(Except Colosseum/Gale of Darkness Spinoffs and Platinum those are GOATS)
    Anyways, thank you for you bringing more retrospective videos.
    And I would love a Remastered Colosseum & Gale of Darkness games with some Final Fantasy Difficulty or something appealing to older audience.
    Oh n Minor B. should belong in Smash Ultimate as a secret boss lol

      I am 99% sure that has to do with my low view to sub rate, which is actually the problem I am addressing in this video😂 CZcams is like: nobody cares, so why would we notify? 🤷‍♂️
      And yeah if I have "learned" one thing from making videos, it's that hating a game for what it can't do is incredibly cheap and easy. Even the best of the best games have their flaws. I think it's worth much more to look for what a game CAN do, even if it's a bad game. Unless there's any indication of the contrary, a team of people have put lots of time into the product and I'd much rather appreciate their work and give them feedback on what doesn't work, than just straight up trashtalk the game like the youtuber your described does.
      I'd love to see remakes/remasters of Colosseum and XD, but I am not sure of Gamefreak has any interest in funding that project 18+ years after release. I mean I'd buy it instantly, but uh...
      P.S. Miror B in smash with like a Ludicolo special move would be the coolest thing ever😂

  • @jaycred8726
    @jaycred8726 Před 2 lety +6

    31:27 Yeah, that's just a gen 3 problem. Colosseum/XD's foundation in gen 3 mechanics is the part that aged the worst. I love gen 3 a great deal, but it certainly lacks some quality of life. The sparse movepools and lack of physical/special split screwing over some Pokemon's offensive capability is a weakness, but anyone invoking that as their excuse for disliking Colosseum/XD just wouldn't enjoy gen 3 in general.
    Personally I think the shadow Pokemon were functionally bland in Colosseum and having to save at a PC was annoying at times, but the run-down setting was so cool and the characters were very unique. XD went and fleshed out the shadow Pokemon along with a few improvements to features/graphics and bringing back the menu save button, so I find it more palatable to replay even though it sacrifices a bit of its prequel's flair.
    Modern Pokemon games are competent, but Colosseum/XD will always stand out among the crowd and it's a missed opportunity that their settings and design approaches haven't been officially revisited after almost 6 generations. Thanks for the retrospective

    This game was me and my siblings intro to Pokémon aside from the anime, so glad this was the first even when we thought needing to knock out a Pokémon was a way to catch them. Condolence to the Makuhita I advised my sister to take out to catch lol. Great game!

    Colosseum's (and of course XD:GoD's) Soundtrack is probably the most undeniably great aspect of the game, I've seen countless arguments about this game and yet one aspect no one feels the need to debate is the soundtrack, even with the battles taking f**king ages sometimes these very short looping themes Never get old or grading... Pokemon Games rarely miss with their soundtracks but this one just has this unmatchable staying power.

    I would absolutely love to see a new Pokémon Stadium game, just a game completely focused on battling using the models and animations from Colosseum and Battle Revolution. It would be even cooler if it was connected to Pokémon Home so you could make use of all your Pokémon. Focusing entirely on the battles would allow them to finally make better animations for all the Pokémon past gen 4. I am so sick of the bland current models and animations

    9:00 What? Cipher gave them the snag machines? I thought they already had the Snag Machines and Cipher just helped them make the portable one. I thought their existing Snag technology is why Cipher hired them, to snag test subjects for their Shadow experiments. Something that really bothered me about the game is that it gives you a Plusle, a Pokémon explicitly designed to make use of the double Battle mechanic, in a game exclusively filled with Double Battles, but not its counterpart is doesn't work without, Minun. Why? Also, I feel like the pool of catchable Pokémon should be any Pokémon inaccessible in 3rd gen games, including version-excluvies so that Colosseum can be used to fill any gen 3 game's dex vacancies. But like a dozen of them are available in both versions of the Kanto remakes and/or the Hoenn games anyway. Sure, maybe there can be some odds and ends, Pokémon you'd want to have just to make getting through the game with a good party easier, but I feel like it fails at what seems to be its intended goal or expanding dex accessibility.

    • @F1areon
      @F1areon Před 8 hodinami

      There's actually some scrapped data in Colosseum suggesting that Minun was supposed to be a Shadow Pokemon you could snag, so it seems the devs WERE planning to play on that and it just... got scrapped for whatever reason.

      @@F1areon There were also like 3 E-reader card exclusive shadow Pokémon, but were never released in North America and even if they were that feature to bring them in is disabled in the North American release anyway, you can actually see where the access room is supposed to be.

    I remember as a kid the game was a little too confusing and difficult. I wasn't crazy about the double battles only mechanic, and the world was so grimy and ugly compared to the usual pokemon fair. I never beat it and had no interest in the sequel. Looking back much older, it's a cool idea, but at the time as a young kid, it's like the game was engineered in a lab to be uninteresting to the core demographic of pokemon players.

    I was never interested in colosseum but I’ve always wanted a Pokémon game where you play as “the bad guys”. Everyone I know who’s played it praises it but I never seemed to get into it.
    For modern Pokémon games, I loved sword and shield and put about 200 hours into it with friends, but that’s probably because I missed all the 3ds games. Over the past 2 years I’ve been collecting original copies of all the ds/3ds games and they still hold up. When I played oras I got really hyped for gen 4 remakes. I couldn’t be more disappointed with how bdsp turned out. Pearl was my first Pokémon game and to see then absolutely butcher the remake was really upsetting to me. I was really hoping for something more like oras, imo oras it the best Pokémon remake because of all the new stuff they added while maintaining a good balance with the source material.
    For Pokémon legends I’m happy they’re trying something new but just like all their games it feels rushed. I really hope they make more legends games and improve upon the mistakes they made. Finally I want to ask what your opinion is on legends? ps great vid was worth the wait:):):):)

    • @WordsOfWisdomForReal
      @WordsOfWisdomForReal  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah Colosseum is a fantastic game to me, but just like any other game it isn't for everyone. Like I briefly mentioned in this video, I appreciate the modern games as much as I appreciated the older games back in the day. The games are just fun little new adventures, but I always wanted them to move beyond the same ol' formula. Like yeah I still dumped 97 hours into Sword/Shield, but it wasn't some revolutionary adventure to me😅
      I agree with you that OrAs were great remakes that truly improved the originals while sticking true to its core. Really enjoyed those. From that perspective I can truly understand the disappointment in BdSp when the bar was set so high. I personally felt like BdSp was fine aside from the art style they decided to go with, but yeah it was far less inventive than oras in every aspect possible. I still had a fun time due to things looking different and the slightly more competitive movesets than the originals, so I found it very difficult to jump on the disappointment-bandwagon. I genuinely had a fun time for this 1 playthrough😂
      As for Legends, that game is EXACTLY what the franchise needed. Such a fun, fresh new idea that really seems to capture what pokémon was intended to be. Like you mention here, it does feel unfinished, but I think this is step in the right direction. Playing it safe like they've done for years, recycling ideas and such… it was ok, but not the move. This game truly is the best game since explorers of sky for me.
