I personally am a hardcore Mertailor fan, but facts are facts. Those monofins are different. Thank you Courtney for this video and I 100% agree with the facts, there's no infringement because they're simply different fins.

It seems to me that E.D. is trying to claim that he invented monofins entirely, and that any and all other monofins are in violation of his patent. Except that he did not invent any of it. He doesn't own the company that makes the material he uses, he did not invent any molding process, and people have been sharing their tail making processes and tutorials on several platforms for YEARS. He didn't even invent the vent design or the process of using powermesh to reinforce dragonskin silicone. I have had people try to tell me that any other silicone monofins than his are specifically illegal,and that he worded his patent so vaguely, so he could claim that. Which simply is not true. What I don't understand is how he can have a legal claim to processes, material, and designs that he did NOT invent or even improve on.
This is the impression I got. I don't see how anyone can "patent" anything that ANY monofin NEEDS or should have (like reinforcement). I've seen several videos on majority of the main monofins Courney referenced, and none of them meet ALL of the (still vague) criteria. The luna or mahina is closer than the floppy silocone. This mostly just made me want the fish fin more. (I'm a Luna girl)
Oh hey! I ordered my fish fin last Wednesday, talked directly to Ms. Lucia, and I am awaiting my delivery today. The best ways to fight the bullying and disinformation in the mer community are twofold. 1. Get the information out, and 2. Buy the fin. Get it here, and prove them wrong. DO IT!
@@lotusauriel I want to, but even my Luna makes my small pool go crazy, and that fin is 19" across I believe. I can't imagine my inflatable pool could handle the fish fin. 😅
@@Hellnogizmo You will find bigger waters eventually. No worries. FedEx showed up right after my last reply... lol. I like it. It does fit like a mahina, and on my super wide and swollen duck feet, those heel bumps are weird. It's tight, and I might should have gotten a large, but Lucia said it is more stretchy in the water. I'm going swimming tomorrow.

The Drama actually started by accident. Ladonna started selling exactly the same fin in gold. Lucia made a post to address this, but accidentally tagged the mertailor. After Lucia removed the tag and specified that she did not mean the mertailor, and her problem was with Ladonna. Of course people never read the full story, because its in human nature to fight without reading first. Now among Ladonna and lucia, apparently it is said that none of them are producing the fin. They are using the same maker with whom they do not share design exclusivity, hence the difference in the colour but not in shape.
As for your video.. I absolutely love that you did it, also I love the lengths you went into, in order to be as precise as possible. thank you

Those bubbles come from mixing the silicone and not degassing the material before pouring. Not degassing and having bubbles can cause weak points in the cured material and reduce tensile strength.
That little nub is a reminent of the injection mold (a two or more part mold which the material is "injected" into the mold from the top of the mold). That nub is where the pour spout was placed for pouring.
I understand that Mertailor also tried to say that the evermermaid monofin was also a plagiarism of his. I think every time it comes out slightly similar he does it.
So, backing up for a moment, what started all this, the reason for the video? Mertailor claiming patent infringement?
Good luck with that, because with any patent, is someone changes the design, lyrics, melody (I'm in the music business) by just 10% it becomes a different entity.
Yes, this video came to be due to some bullying, some false information being spread, and a general concern that the fin was infringing on the Mertailor patent.
So much good actual evidence, hopefully people can cool down a bit now 💕

Hm This is a very good analysis. I did have some concern about how floppy the mer tailor monofin is. Too floppy and you don’t get a good propulsion for sure. I’ve been a long time monofin user myself. I like how mertailors tails look, he has great designs, but I wonder if any stiffer monofin would fit in his tails 🤔

It is a stiffer silicone material.
@@CourtneyMermaid I may not buy it then if it's stiffer, my feet are dainty and bruise easily lol. But I'm glad they are made differently. They both seem to be good companies and I'm tired of people complaining back and forth like they made the fin themselves. Besides years from now I'm sure a new improved monofin will come out that'll blow both of these out of the water. Time improves everything.

I have themertailor tail since 2018 and I love it! :) It was veeeeeery expensive, but I do not regret anything!

Random question: I didn’t know much about the Lucia until I watched your videos about it. I’ve always swam in the Finis Foil as it was my very first monofin from years back. How would you compare the stiffness between those two monofins? Im looking to purchase a new one for a tail I’m making and I absolutely love the ankle straps and body of the monofin being one piece. So I’ve been torn between the Mahina and Finis shooter for some time. (Though the shooter I’ve read is sharp so I’m not too sure)
The Lucia adds another option for me, so I’m wondering in your opinion, how they compare in relation to the Finis Foil as that’s all I personally know.
I’m obsessed with floppy flukes, it looks amazing bit it’s not practical if you want to actually swim lol.
I like the Finnis Luna monofin for swimming but I wish it was a bit more floppy

Hello, it is a great video. I have a problem with the Mahina monofin. Despite the fact that i were neoprene socks with my monofin, i am always bleeding. Can someone have the kindness to give me an advice?
How thick are the socks you are using and what size fin do you have? If your fin is too big in the foot pockets, you will experience more trouble than if the fin fits well. Thicker socks will help too! Also, you could be kicking too much from your knees or your ankles. If you roll through the motion more and put less emphasis on your feet, you will find you end up with fewer blisters (that's largely how I do it). I hope that helps! ♥

I particulary like the H2o one because it is very realistic for a fabric tail. If i understood weel you do not use neoprene but another fabric that i do not remember anymore. So, i was wondering if this fabric sinks well like the basics fabric tail or if it sinks not quiet well like the neoprene. Do you make custom tails ? Because i am seeking for an extra long fabric mermaid H2o tail to have this special wave in plus like in the serie. ☺️

those fins are so different I don´t get how anyone could say the lucia is a copy... but could you please speak about the company who is actually copying lucia? ladonnamermaid they make an exact replica of her monofin and I would really like to know how that is possible and what you recieve when you order their stuff
That is a common misconception that I was also made aware of. Ladonna and Lucia actually share the same supplier and I was provided with evidence to this effect.
I will need to revise this statement as new information has just been provided to me.

I do want to see Mertailor's work protected, 100%. He works insanely hard for his company and does deserve recognition for that. My big problem (and reason for making this video) was the bullying and false information circulating Facebook groups and forums.

The Mertailor fin looks like it sucks.
It's actually a great monofin for those of us that like a more floppy feel and aesthetic.
It actually doesn't suck. Mertailor's monofins are beautiful works of art and should be treated with respect. He has put a lot of time, effort, and love into his creations and deserves recognition for that. There are so many different monofins out there on the market, that if Mertailor's fins aren't for you, there will definitely be something else out there that will get the job done. That was a big part of why I wanted to make this video.
