Welcome to another video, even though it's a brief one. Today's video takes a look at glorious evening take off by an Emirates A380 which prior to the pandemic was a common visitor to Melbourne. It was always a treat to have EK 405 depart from Melbourne to Singapore during a late afternoon and evening. Stunning shots like these were common during Spring and Autumn seasons, these being from October 2018. I've included some additional information about this particular aircraft below for those interested. Enjoy and fingers crossed these are flying back sooner rather than later in some shape or form. Cheers
    Tom

I can never stop wondering how these heavy machines lift off from the ground , fly and then land , though I know the science on which they work.Despite having travelled many times on planes, I always watch them with a chill through my spine ! Yet, I watch and watch with an awe every time a plane takes off or land ! For me it is a wonder every time.! Flying machines are one of the greatest inventions of man !

My late husband and I used to spend a lot of Friday or Saturday evenings going to JFK to watch the planes take off. There was rooftop parking at the TWA terminal and that's where we parked. We would take our portable radio, plug it into a light post and listen to ATC for gate departures and then switch to takeoffs. I always wondered how the big planes back then (747s, L1011s and DC-10s) stayed up there and I think the same thing of today's planes, especially Emirates A380 which also flys for 16H NS!!
I'm always in awe seeing the planes and always wish the pilots a safe trip.

@Super Nova Yes it was, back 1974 to 1978. We moved to Long Island so we didn't make the trip as often. There were a lot of people up there planespotting. We lucked out one day, the Concorde was there and we waited patiently for it to depart. That was a beautiful sight to see. I've always been fascinated watching the planes land and take off, even before the '70s. I need to make it to the city to see Emirates land and/or take off. That massive plane has me mesmerized. It used to fly right over my house on the way to JFK. I miss seeing it.

Hi Rolly, taking off is the simplest to understand, From Isaac Newton principles as object falls at a speed of 9.8 m/s ,this speed increases depending on the weight of the object. In the case of the fully loaded Airbus A380, it just needs to move at a speed faster than the speed it would would fall due to gravity, the jet engines make sure it moves faster than the speed due to gravity hence it takes off. Other things like wings etc play a factor too

I don't even know how many I've done. Dubai Auckland or Christchurch probably ten trips, CHC and sometimes AKL via a stop in SYD or MEL (sometimes with a leg on QANTAS A380 instead of Emirates). And almost all of those with DXB Moscow in A380 as well. Also DME-DXB-Korea and return once. Those are all Emirates. Plus SFO Paris and Frankfurt on AF and LH. The Emirates planes are by far the nicest, but any A380 beats any B777 in economy class.

The ability to get this behemoth into the air not is only a testament to the power of her engines, it’s also a reminder of the force that air can exert on objects. It’s just air, albeit, moving air, that supports aircraft in flight. The same force that blows up tornadoes and hurricanes that overmatch most anything in their path. However you look at it, though, these enormous aircraft are mind boggling.

It is called ‘lift’ caused by airflow over the wing surfaces at a particular speed and plane weight.
A marvel of mathematics. The take off is indeed a thing of beauty. Agreed.

Airplanes, the automobile, air-conditioning, heating, refrigeration, stoves and ovens, the telephone, lighting and electricity, these were all so groundbreaking.
