There is no such plane in the works and Boeing has repeatedly said definitively no new planes before 2035

I don't think that Airbus has a single reason to be afraid of anything from Boeing.Probably the opposite way.

Unfortunately, the only way Boeing see's the 797 make it to market is as a rebranded Comac 919, that is, once Comac buys the controlling interest in Boeing.

Believe it when i see it, can you imagine the delays with Boeing getting a brand new aircraft into the air, would be at least 10 years from now, in the meantime Airbus gaining more market share.

They should probably be more concerned to investigate, reduce and resolve the existing quality problems. However I think it might be too late for Boeing to restore the confidence in their products.

Actually, remember AA’s “more legroom in coach” thing in the 2000’s? It did NOTHING for ticket sales. You’re WRONG. Passenger comfort is NOT something people consider when shopping for airfares. Even with AA having an extra 3” of legroom in coach, people STILL went with the cheapest tickets, not caring that AA was more comfortable.

Boeing miscalculate the market since 1985 when the Airbus A320 introduction. The Airbus A32X have wider seats and aisle. Airbus RULES the narrowbody.
The 797 will NOT be a game changer as the A320. Boeing lost when they canceled the 757/767.

  • @widget787

They stopped the 797 program as they lost too much time, if they went ahead 5-7 years ago this new airplane would have been old tech akready soon. Now they can wait for the newest developments especially regarding engines.
However it woukd have been very smart to launch a 767X as a stop gap. This would have been a comparably simple upgrade. Engines already exist (the GEnx-2b), wingbox+gear supporting the larger engines already exists (767-400) and a modern cockpit and avionics already exist as well on the 767 (tanker).
One version sized between the 767-200 and 767-300 and one sized between the 767-300 and 767-400 would have been perfect.

BOEING should better focus on safety standart and remove internal problems first like drug and alcohol problems by some of theyr employees. So why focus on 797 when 787 can do it even better? What about the huge issues with 777XXL?

The 797 will rely on the next generation of engines not only to fly but also to increase efficiency. As we know, the latest engines are responsible for most of the efficiency gains.
I am sure that whatever Boeing may come up with, Airbus will be in a position to re-engine any member of the 320 series.and apply whatever is needed to the airframe to commpete

A 797 should not be expected before 2025-2028. Considering that the final model of the 747, the 747-8 did not start deliveries until 2011 and that the 737 MAX 9 deliveries only started in 2018, we may not see a need for a 797 until well after even that date.
