- Hamburger Gravy Recipe:
1 lb ground beef or sirloin
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/2 cup onion, diced
2 tsp minced garlic (2 -3 cloves)
32 oz water
2-3 chicken bullion cubes
(or just 1 box of chicken broth)
1/2 tsp anise seed
salt and pepper to taste
Cornstarch Slurry to thicken gravy:
3 tbls cornstarch
1/2 cup milk or water
Serve over mashed potatoes with a green veggie

I lost both my parents in 2007 one month apart. Even though it's been 17 years I still miss them terribly. I cook the good food I grew up on. Both Mom and Dad where great cooks, and both worked, so my older brother, older sister and myself all had to cook meals for the family some days. When they got older I would cook Thanksgiving dinner at their house for all the inlaws, neices and nephews using moms recipes. The food was always so good and a hit with everyone.
So sorry that you lost them that way. I completely understand. You always miss them. Food is something that connects us to them even when they are gone.
I grew up in the ‘60s and ‘70s and my mom had 3 big hungry boys to feed. Meals like this are what we grew up eating. Us boys didn’t really care what it was as long as there was a lot of it!!

We love hamburger gravy! Definitely a comfort food. I lived the video..great tribute to your mom. This is a hard month for me as well so I understand. I dread July every year. I lost my brother and only sibling July 14th, 2010 and my momma a year later, almost to the day, July 11th 2011. Lost my dad in 1997. 😢 I still feel like an orphan. Those losses never leave you. You just learn to carry on. I still cry when I talk about them! Love you. ❤

So sorry to hear to about your fur baby, it is very hard but know that sweet dog is up in heaven without pain and playing away.... so neat to see your mommas recipe card she had pretty handwriting, never had hamburger gravy before, will need to try it....love the old potato masher I still use some of my mommas kitchen utensils....I miss my momma a lot but always remember she is always in your heart and memory.... Food looks amazingly delicious and a fresh cucumber right out of the garden tops it off... God Bless you both and hope your week gets better...

I'm so very sorry for your loss of your mother and your fur baby Fritzzy. I lost my mother on October 10 2021. I think of her every day. My mother said when you see a butterfly it's a loved one coming to visit you and checking on you. So when I see a butterfly I know it's my mother coming to see me and how I doing. My mother also loved outdoors and feeding all her wild animals like Snow White. She loved to cook as well. I have a ton of her recipes that I haven't had a chance to go through.
Wesley hold on to those memories. That’s what keeps us going. The memories that we have and the hope that we will see them again one day. So sorry for your loss

I'm really surprised that Mom didn't make hamburger gravy to feed her six hungry children. Granted, she did cook a lot with hamburger (probably because in the 70's and 80's hamburger was one of the cheaper more affordable meats), but nothing she made resembled hamburger gravy. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it.

I like the recipe for the hamburger gravy it sounds similar to something my mom and my grandma showed me but they use cream of mushroom soup instead of the broth more like a stroganoff for them I guess I can't wait to try your recipe for my husband and kids though my kids are grown and out of the house but I still cook for them LOL

There isn't a week that goes by that one of my kids are not asking me to fix something I just fixed homemade potato soup this week for my daughter, her boyfriend, and my grandbaby potato soup is for the fall but I guess it works in the summer too LOL

Yes. It’s a small garden. We use grow bags. Peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, and green beans
I really do miss having a fresh garden that was something that my mom and dad did together we always had watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, Pepper's you name it they grew it Christy would you go through right now is what I go through in May my mother's birthday was on Mother's Day this year my birthday is right after that her only sister birthday right after that and both of them are gone I completely understand a comfort meal
Unfortunately I do not have land to do a garden I wish I could the closest I get to a garden is the farmers market where we live 😁
