I honestly liked Mendez’s fight a lot more in the remake than in the original. Mostly due to the graphics and the fact that he was saying a bunch of stuff during his fight. In the original I was just kind of running around and trying to shoot him. So seeing him have a couple new moves here was pretty appreciated if you ask me. But then again, that’s just preference.

Just finished my 1st ever playthrough. I never played any RE games before (mostly because I'm a big scaredy-cat). I just went and bought this due to the major hype it's in. I must say I am pleasantly delighted. 1st and foremost, this game has a unique "tutorial" where they just let you jump into it, swarmed by Ganados and chainsaw guy right at the beginning with almost zero ammo.
The actual hints about stealth and parrying came at the next section , which tells me that this game do not hold your hand the whole way with long-ass tutorial about the mechanics.
The gun mechanics are top-tier, The combats are satisfying. The pacing is very well thought of.
The side quests / requests are nice little additions, complimenting your journey without making it feel too bloaty.
The BOSSES. OH MY GOD. They're terrifying, also satisfying when you defeat them.
All in all, a 10000/10 game.

I think we should have an honorable mention for Super Salvador… an exclusive boss and enemy made for the Chainsaw Demo’s hidden game mode “Mad Chainsaw Mode”. Super Salvador applies the same like original Salvador, except he comes with a new fresh coat of white paint that makes him look like Jason from Friday The 13th Part 2, and his chainsaw got a major change. Its glowing bright fiery red and orange blades are no joke as Super Salvador charges at you at Lightning Speed, combined with his larger health… and worst of all… a single parry will instantly break your knife. On top of Mad Chainsaw mode already being ludicrously difficult, Super Salvador is an absolute nightmare to defeat and it doesn’t help that every other Gonado will try and stop you dead in your tracks for Salvador to deliver a killing blow…

You can totally drop the unarmored gigante in the fire, either stun him on top of the grate by shooting the plaga when it shows or, for a much easier time, throw a flash grenade while he is standing on the grate and voila. Also the zealots don't spawn infinitly on the double garradors fight, there are 4 waves (the last has 2 stage 2 plaga ganados) and you are suposed to use them as shield, bait the garradors towards the zealots so that they slice the poor bastards to bits then stab or shoot the garrador.

@@LegendOfKhaos12 You misunderstood him. When he said speedrun Ada's rocket launcher, he means to reduce the time taken to wait for Ada to give the rocket launcher to Leon since Saddler final form is time based where the more damage you did to him, the time will reduce drastically. Meaning, you can just dodge all his attacks until Ada give the rocket launcher but it'll take a longer time. So using the magnum on Saddler final form is the best in this situation.

Admittedly, in the OG re4, I just opened up Salazar and shot him with a rocket launcher since he was an unmoving target. But now, since he moves around and actually talks about stuff, I really like his boss fight. Not just because it is mechanically fun, but also because it reinforces the lore behind him being basically the runt of the Salazar family, with some of his insults he says to Leon having been said to him by his family. Originally, I didn't like the redesign of Salazar, but now I think that Capcom wanted to make him a bit more serious than "haha funny small man go brrr."

You can sink both Gigante’s into the lava pit, you just have to get them stunned in their on a knee animation. I sunk the regular and armored one on my first playthrough, but I always had trouble dropping them into the lava without stunning them in the original, which is why I tried that first.
Also, couldn’t agree more about Krauser. I like saddler more as a villain too, but my favorite from the original was Salazar. That fight was always so cool and wild to me, but I did enjoy the new version as well. The Krauser fight is just such an upgrade, and pushes you to use all the skills you’ve learned throughout the game to win. That fight was the final bit challenge of the game, which I really liked.

  • @joshuaweston6531
    @joshuaweston6531 Před rokem +2

Wow! I just got through commenting on your video about the original version's bosses...and now here we go again! Good list. Here's mine:
    09. Twin El Gigante: Really, the only reason they're at the bottom is because something has to be. And it's still a fight where there are two instead of one, which is never my favorite. I agree that great effort was taken to make this more of an actual encounter in the REmake. For one, you've got Luis by your side, turning this into a two on two battle instead of a two on one rape. On top of that, the armored SOB requires Luis' help to even defeat. But the best addition to this encounter by far is something else entirely. Imagine my surprise when no matter how many times I baited the Gigante over to the trap door, it would suddenly back off from it the moment I went to open it! Watching them both skirt around the center death trap made me realize something. I'm no longer dealing with the Gigante's inbred cousins anymore!
    08. Mutated Saddler: My feelings towards this boss remain pretty much the same as in the original. Saddler's mutation looks appropriately disgusting and yeah, you do get to pop some glowing eyeballs. That's about the end of the fun though, because now you've got basic Novistadors to contend with as well. Sure, they aren't particularly difficult and they are fitting considering Saddler is seen with these things swarming around him during the game. However, there's a limit to how many targets I want to be firing at in a boss fight. That's what basic swarms of enemies are for. You know, like I've been doing for the entire game...His second transformation is fine, but somewhat unnecessary. Especially since it's piss easy now that you've only got one big eyeball to pop. I think part of the problem is that I've never confronted Saddler (In the REmake or original) without being armed to the teeth with magnum rounds. I always save my best supply for last. It's not really a fault of the boss, but more of a consequence of how survival horror games play. At least how I play them. Come to think of it, final bosses in RE games don't tend to be my favorites on average.
    07. El Gigante: I've said it before and I'll say it again, the more times this dude appears the less enthralling even his original battle becomes. There are, after all, three more of these guys just like in the original. That being said, it was pretty cool seeing this behemoth in a shiny new coat of paint. Uglier than ever and now in high def! The fight is pretty similar to the original. Not much changed here. I do like how tenacious the doggo is this time around. He may be an anklebiter, but boy is he not afraid to get in there! I kinda miss how Gigante fucks up several villagers in the original though...
    06. Del Lago: This is another boss that didn't change all that much from the original. Then again, if the design is solid then why mess with it, eh? Once again, it's nice to see Lago get the REmake treatment. Other than that, it's a good boss for all the same reasons as the original. It's intense and it's the only fight in the game where you're forced to ditch your gear and fight it with an endless supply of harpoons Leon bought for dirt cheap at the Pesetas General Store.
    05. Mutated Salazar: Wow did the REmake vastly improve Salazar's boss fight! No longer content with taking a seat and letting Leon pump his Magnum into him, Ramon actually decides to try to fight back! First off, I much prefer the design. This teethy mouth monster flys around the arena like a langolier on coke! The bosses added mobility really forces you to take stock of where he is in relation to your position at pretty much all times. You're encouraged to get close for big damage, but this comes at the risk of being bitten, which is an insta kill. Suffice it to say, I was pretty reckless when first fighting Ramon, and I died multiple times because of it. This was the moment I realized that I actually had to try. The moment I realized Ramon was actually a challenge this time around! Even on my second playthrough, when I was using the Killer 7, I was surprised to find it lasted longer than I expected. Good job Capcom for improving on one of the games weakest links!

I loved Krauser. And in his final moments, his death, the only time where he called leon by his name rather than rookie, the moment he got defeated, got proud, it gives my the same vibes as sekiro where you fight owl and he says "defeated, by my own son? The feeling is not entirely unpleasant"

I also used to think the zealots were infinite spawning during the double garrador fight, but they do in fact stop spawning in after around 15-20ish of them die. The only way I was able to beat this on pro mode new game, was to use the bolt thrower and flash grenades in the lower half of the room until they all finally stopped spawning in. Only then was I able to try and take on the two garradors who were still chained to the wall. Easily the part of the game I was stuck on the most on new game pro.

    04. Jack Krauser: I enjoyed fighting Krauser in the original, but Oh Man was I not prepared for the improvement! Fighting Krauser is even more fun now! What was once merely a QTE interactive cutscene has blossomed into this beautiful waltz. A waltz of death where you get to slice and jab your knife into your opponent. Blocking, parrying, ducking and flipping in a fast paced contest to see who's the best...epic! The sheer amount of combat options really adds to the engagement of this fight. On top of that you get an, albeit brief, conversation about Leon and Krauser's time during Operation Javier and Luis gets one last chance to help out before his inevitable demise. The only thing keeping this out of the top three is the fact that it's meant to be a teaser fight, and therefore, doesn't last very long. The dance ends just about as you're really getting into it. Even so, both of the Krauser fights are inarguably some of the most enjoyable in the game.
    03. Mutated Mendez: I'm actually a bit split on this one. There's things here I really like that the REmake has added, but a couple of things I prefer in the original. As for the things I like...well for starters I love, as I do with most of the bosses in this game, how the knife can be used mechanically in the fight. I feel like this is the first boss where you get a real good taste of that. I also like his added attacks in the form of throwing large chunks of burning rubble at Leon. I didn't personally find these that difficult to avoid, but they still clipped me every now and again. Now onto the things I preferred in the original. For one, I agree with you on the transformation and how it went down versus the REmake. The other big thing is the arena itself. The arena in the REmake is a bit too open for my tastes. I mean, I get that it was done to facilitate the new moveset in the second phase, but there was something about being able to climb up into the rafters and kinda hide from the Big Cheese that added to the atmosphere in the original. There were also moments where you'd lose track of him while he was swinging around in his second phase. The new arena seems very videogamey, whereas the original felt like it was just the inside of some random barn. Regardless, I like the atmosphere in both versions, and it was awesome to see the bosses design in the new engine!
    02. Mutated Krauser: I had a hard time deciding who would for sure take the top spot, but I knew exactly which ones would end up in the top two! This fight is great for all the reasons mentioned before. First and foremost being the implementation of the knife mechanics, which can now be used to parry Krauser in his transformation phase. Like in the original, this is still a battle of attrition. You can't end Krauser without having to move to various arenas while he toys with you throughout. Unlike in the original, however, this section is condensed. I also just like the traps better. Gone are the spider like drones from the original, which were never my favorite. Now you have more practical traps in the form of trip mines, and Krauser firing rockets at you when you turn a corner. In general, Krauser is more invested in this part of the battle and it really nailed that feeling of being hunted by your opponent. Then when you do get to square off to the death with Krauser it gets even more intense! Krauser mutates and has a host of new moves at his disposal. It's fast and it can't be cheesed this time around! In my second playthrough I dropped him with one well placed magnum shot to the head! It was satisfying! I also really enjoyed the end cutscene between him and Leon. As I watched Leon pick up the knife, while Krauser told him to do what he had to do, I was fully expecting Leon to suddenly drop the knife and say something about how he's not like Krauser. Which would have been very dumb! Leaving Krauser alive would mean he'd just keep coming for Leon. But no, Leon steels himself and to my surprise, runs Krauser through with it! Leon is no longer a naive rookie! An excellent moment that caps off a rather personal battle between two former comrades. One of the absolute best additions to the REmake!
    01. Verdugo: That's right, I put him at number one in your last video and I'm doing it again! The fight with Verdugo is every bit as enjoyable as the one with Krauser, in a similar but also very different way. This is another one the REmake improved upon over the original. Like with Krauser, it's a one versus one battle where you're being hunted. Unlike with Krauser, this feeling remains throughout the entirety of the fight. And unlike Krauser, you are fighting an unfamiliar opponent. This, coupled with Verdugo's disturbing and now much more graphically detailed presence, really makes you feel like you're being chased by a superior creature. Something that could kill you with ease if you let it get too close. I can only imagine the feeling for new players who have never played the original! Speaking of the original, While I do like the darker arena, I think I do prefer the cryogenic look of the new one. For one thing, it allows you to get a much clearer look at what's stalking you. That's not the only change I like. In the original you simply had to shoot canisters to freeze Verdugo, which you could pretty easily bait him into. Now, with the cryo showers, there's an element of timing involved. Oh, and if you're thinking it's actually pretty easy because so long as you turn them on when he's behind you you're pretty much golden...wrong! On one occasion I literally watched him stop in his tracks from chasing me just before the cryo shower after I had turned it on, turn around and disappear, only to have him crawl out of a tunnel on my opposite side! So yeah, good AI! Plus the cryo showers can actually hurt Leon as well, so there's that. Another thing I Iike is that should the fight continue for long enough, the cryo showers become unusable. On my second playthrough, this became a problem for me, as I could no longer freeze my ex lover. So I tried to fight it the old fashioned way and promptly ran out of every bit of ammo I had, save for my magnum rounds, the weapon for which was in storage for the late game. So I was forced to fend it off with the knife. No lie, right as I was down to only a sliver of health with no healing items left and was convinced I was going to die and have to redo the fight from the beginning, I managed to get a lucky knife jab in dead into it's face which suddenly dropped the bastard! I kinda paused when it happened and just took a moment to stare at it's corpse lying on the ground, thinking to myself, "Did I actually just pull that off?" Without a doubt one of the most satisfying moments in my entire experience with the game. THAT is what a survival horror boss should be. Not something easy that you can just pump a ton of rounds into and call it a day, but something that forces you to think strategically and do whatever it takes to survive! I actually really love how the knife can be utilized in this fight. It's pretty cool to block the thing's stinger tail as it clinks against your knife multiple times in a row! Really loved the sequence, especially in this REmake! It's a shame about U3 to be sure, but I'm really happy Verdugo survived the cutting room floor! Besides, I'm still holding out hope that the U3 will make it into a Separate Ways DLC...🤞!

It was a great boss, but in a game with constantly great bosses Mendez never stuck out to me all that much. He always felt too easy and simple for me to place very high up. A high placement on a boss ranking requires a combined degree of great aesthetics and great challenge. Mendez had the aesthetically pleasing part down but in both versions was woefully easy to me which lowered his placement in comparison to others found later. I never felt I was short on ammo during his fight, never felt I was overly close to death, just no major threat at all.

Man I feel for mendez you really had rose colored googles on.... the original fight was literally "shoot him until hes close, run past him to the other side of arena, shoot him until hes close" repeat for both phases and occasionally do the qte in phase 2. In the remake during phase 1 you can either fight on the floor which is harder or go top where you can evade/parry. Second phase yeah you have to doge the stuff he throws which is at leat a mechanic and when he comes close you dont stand in front of him and need to duck his wild swinging stuff. I am not trying to diss the old game but due to the movement limitations thats just how it played.
I also find it kind of weird that you put out a boss ranking while obviously having fought the bosses maybe once since for example for el gigante and the double el gigante you neither know what the wolf does nor how the dropchute actually works. I mean I guess I can just take it as an opinion piece after first playthrough but the reasoning is not really all that great.

    Worst to Best
    13. That Fucking Dog
A bullet sponge thay dodges half your output. Great. Skip it.
    12. Garradors
Lumping all these together. Don't dislike them, but the fight is often over before it begins. The Dual fight takes place when you should have a high end shotgun/pistol - so you shouldn't have problems. Just watch the mobs.
    11. Del Lago
Just too easy this time round. Don't think I've even died here yet. Never felt like a prey, felt like a fisherman.
    10. Dr Salvador
Not as threatening due to the block - but damn he's twitchy. Also like the addition of melee attacks.
    9. Belle Twins
    Salvador x 2
    8. El Gigantes
Less of a boss, more of a setpiece. Their health bars are massively lowered & I reccomend just killing off the armoured boy instead of dunking him. He drops a Yellow Gem (I think).
    7. Krauser (Knife)
I love the knife fight but it's over too quickly. Should've been a recurring event throughout Chapters 11, 12 & 13 leading up to the final boss. Or maybe that's redundant. Either way - fun.
    6. Chief Mendez
The second phase really hurts it - with the easily dodged thrown beams. He's there to eat up your reserves. The first phase is awesome though, using the deflection & evades to their full potential. Going toe-to-toe with him - just after his Mr X moment chasing Leon - feels right.
    5. El Gigante
Hell of a health pool & forces the player to stay mobile & aware of their surroundings. It's a positioning puzzle, especially since the Plaga is so high up. Take too long to aim & you'll walk yourself into a corner. Prepares the player for the Water Room.
    4. Saddler
An expanded arena & addition of more attacks goes a long way to improving this fight. Just a shame they used the Novistadors when the fight stood on it's own. Also - you can die in cutscenes here if you happen to be standing on the bridge when Saddler destroys it.
    3. Salazaar
A complete redesign from the - let's face it - crap fight in the Original. No longer does Salazaar wait for you to unload on him, now he's faster than Leon & hits harder. Pick your shots & keep moving, he's got range too.
    2. Krauser (Main)
Krauser's continually cycling between knife combat, kicks, TMP, explosive arrows, bear traps, turrets, ground pounds, pushes & his Alex Mercer arms makes him feel deadly. Not a lot of health, but the added deflect means you can get down & dirty with his transformation - going head to head with an actual BoW. Truly feels like the moment Leon becomes Legend.
    1. Verdugo
My boy is still King of the game. The only boss you can run away from. Nothing competes with the fear of realising the Verdugo is on your ass. He's fast, hits hard & demands you pay attention. Sure you can cheat with the RPG - but I implore you to stay & kick his ass properly. You're not being hunted, he is.

He probably means the one you fight in chapter 5 for the merchant side quest. It’s insanely tanky and harder than most other fights in the game

I really hope with they bring back U-3 for Separate Ways. Theres some lore tid bits in the Remake that hint they might, which would be awesome. Can you imagine what it would look like in the RE Engine?

Cant understand how you don't have Salazar as the worst boss fight. He was way too difficult on standard difficulty.

The new mendez sucked so bad I had to see if other people hated him just as much as I did. I was so hyped by that chase sequence he has just before the fight and wish he did it a couple more times before his fight but they made the whole fight terrible.

Anyone else couldnt kill Verdugo with all the nitrogen? I had to fight him head on which was insane cuz just like in the original he can dodge some shots.
Eventually killing him, id say he was easily the hardest boss in the original re4

Imo Saddler should be way lower, his boss fight was extremely easy since you have a merchant and typewriter right before his fight and can spend money almost wastefully in order to beat him.
I legit sold everything I had barring the sniper and killer 7 to by a rocket launcher and instantly delete his first phase and his second phase was easy.

Great video, Guys! While it's a shame that some of the bosses were actually downgraded from the original, it's promising to hear that the Remake improved a lot more of them. Also, I'm glad they got rid of the stupid QTE-infused knife-fight cutscene with Krauser in favor of an actual fight. 2023 is certainly turning out to be a major year for great remakes. Here's hoping the System Shock Remake lives up to that standard.
Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!
