  • You need an AI Safeword. Why? Because scammers can use as little as three seconds of audio you've posted on social media to be able to clone your voice and call your friends and family to scam them, or you, out of money. And if you think you can detect it now, give it a few months. The tech is getting better at an exponential rate.
That's why you need an AI Safeword.

In this video, I'll explore the dangers of AI voice-cloning technology and how scammers use it to defraud unsuspecting victims. I'll share a real-life story of a woman who fell victim to a scammer who used voice-cloning technology to impersonate her daughter and demand a ransom.
But there's good news. I'll also share practical tips and tricks that you can use to protect yourself and your loved ones from AI voice-cloning scams. I'll explain how to create unique challenge-passphrases or an AI safeword to help verify the identity of someone you're speaking to on the phone, video call, or any other audio device. I'll also provide best practices to help you stay vigilant and informed of the newest scams in this ever-evolving technological landscape.

This is why I only go on podcasts when I have a serious head cold and belch half my answers.

I've seen one commercial voice cloning service only need three seconds of speaking in order to create a voice clone. Crazy!

I always thought of myself as being particularly adept at spotting a scam, but it's getting really hard now with AI.

Thanks for educating us on AI. Safe words are low tech, just like The Club, for our car stereing wheels. Sadly needed these days as a counter measure to help against theft.

Wow, I'm amazed how similar the AI voice was to yours! Thanks for the helpful advice, especially the secret phrase

Yes, and that took exactly 15 seconds of my time to get it set up, and zero technical knowledge. I know there are much better voice cloning applications or respeechers (which allow for real-time voice modification so you can have a conversation posing as someone else). It's very scary.

Usually just asking a question is enough to figure out it's a scam, a while ago my mom got a call saying they had her brother and would kill him if she didn't send money, she asked whats her brother's name, they didn't know his name.. 💀

I think that should still work for a lot of cases because there are a lot of unsophisticated scammers out there, too. But now, it's pretty easy for a sophisticated scammer to pull from any of at least 10 big data breaches where everyone's info is available for sale on the dark web for pennies. They might know enough details to pass those simple questions next time. Best to take the precaution of developing an A.I. Safe Word

Hey Preet - I dont think a AI safeword is sufficent to protect us sufficiently. With technology listening us to us 24/7 via our phones and other smart devices it's very possible that our safeword gets recorded and compromised. Personally I think asking a shared experience question that only the other person would know the answer to is the only way. But even that has flaws with all the data that has been collected about us which can be used to accurately predict answers to these types of questions as well. Sure, most scammers probably won't have access to all this data and tech but it is definitely possible. Meeting in person is quickly becoming the only way to ensure you are talking to fhe person you think you are.

Yes - I’ve wondered if we will see a reversal of all the bank branch closings. Meeting in person might have a renaissance for sensitive transactions like banking.
