  • Here is what I wish I knew before coming to Japan! I just came back from a trip to Tokyo, Japan and things are SO different there, in a good way!
Japan has many unspoken rules and there's a few things NOT to do there that can be pretty different to what I'm usually used to in Europe or the US.
So I wanted to share with you 10 things you need to know before coming to Japan, whether it's your first time in Japan or you've already been there a lot. This is my personal reaction and opinion to a few things that I found cool or suprising and I hope you'll enjoy it! :)

please don’t say “Don’t tip”, maybe not at the restaurant, but some other people who work for tour industry DO accept tips and we really appreciated it.

Japanese people are humble enough to say that customers visiting their establishment is good enough, so we will do our best and don't need tips in return. In the west however, if you don't tip, they give you nasty looks and in some countries it's even mandatory to tip between 10-20%. In some cases for sh*tty service as well. What a difference in mindset, others are super humble and delivers good quality and others are ignorant, delivers poor quality and still expect their customers to tip them. Giving a tip is to show gratitude for good services and therefore you'll have to somewhat "earn it", not for entitlement because they expect the most out of the lesser service they provide.

The world should invest in 7 and i holdings so that the company can renew all 7-11s in the world and turn them into a Japanese Konbini, just like they are already doing in near asian countries.

Are the prices of things in Japan low?

It's not a budget destination but you can find good deals :) I am making a video about that next week I believe!

I'll speak from a Canada point of view.
*_Getting there_* is expensive - usually the case with any Asian destinations. But once there?
Cost of life is *super* affordable. Everything's really affordable _(low cost)_ but never at the expense of quality or quantity!
      - Public transportation is affordable and accessible
      - Accommodations are very cheap in price but excellent in quality _(and experience)_
      - Food is super accessible and low cost, yet very satisfying, tasty, delicious and healthy! Ready to eat stuff are everywhere and of excellent quality - Konbini, restaurants, street food, vending machines - for a few hundred yens _(100 yen is about 0.91$CAD)_ you can have whole meals.
By comparison, I can have a very generous and complete meal for about 500 Yen in Japan (4.57$CAD) - In Canada? I'd be _lucky_ if I could get a simple DRINK at that price!

If tourism in Japan is that good, I must definitely go. Even though Japan is a developed country, prices are low, which is very attractive to tourists. Thank you for your comment!@@ProtoMarcus
