So it was just my parents who said "What did you do to the dog" if I ever got bit or nipped by a neighborhood dog? Kids have to learn how to behave around animals in the same way that animals have to learn how to behave around people. It makes me sick that they purchased a dog and didn't even consider hte reality of the care and training the animal would need.

    • @TomPettyAsFuck
      @TomPettyAsFuck Před 2 lety +1

My parents did the same. I got nipped by my dog when I was 4. He was trying to sleep, but I wanted to pet him. That poor dog got up and went to a different room several times, but I didn't understand that I was bothering him, so I kept following around the house. Finally, he snapped at me. It wasn't hard enough to break the skin or anything. I went to my mom crying and she asked me what I did to him because she knew it was completely out of character for him to snap at someone. I definitely learned that day that if a dog is sleeping, you need to leave them alone.
I feel bad for their dog. It seems like they're the type of owners that would send their dog off to be trained, but not keep up with the training afterwards and blame the dog when it starts misbehaving again.

We didn't have a lot of knowledge with puppies but knew we wanted a dog. We only had cats. We didn't seek out our dog but it was discussed that IF we got a dog, it would be an adult dog that was a rescue dog. While at a pet store in 2012, a rescue group was there showing a few dogs. That's where we met our new love. We got the benefit of adopting a very sweet, house trained dog & he got a very loving home where he gets all the love he wants. A few years later we went to that same rescue group & adopted another dog. They are our world & the most loving pups. I couldn't have dreamed for better dogs. If you really want a dog but aren't confident you can go through the puppy stage but know you have a lot of love & a good home to offer a pet....just adopt. There are AMAZING pets out there waiting to be adopted.

I adopted a shelter pit WAY before I understood the responsibilities and risks that came along with that. My dog would SCREAM, not bark, or cry, SCREAM whenever left alone, even if just to use the bathroom. He would eat EVERYTHING, PEE on everything, go through trash, eat the floors and shares and beds. I didn't send him away, despite being broke and constantly working I made the time and put in the effort to train him. He no longer has ANY of those bad behaviors. It took about a year of CONSISTENT daily training and it was exhausting for sure but it helped me to build a connection with my dog that not many owners i see have with their pets. He LOVED training and learning and now hes got hardly any anxiety. Hes confident and happy and very very well behaved and smart. There is no excuse to adopt a dog and expect them to be a perfectly well behaved animal without any training. There is no excuse. I MADE time and now my dog is more well behaved than ANY of my friends dogs. 🖤 i absolutelt hate when I see people get mad at their dogs for bad behaviors because 9 outta 10 times, its the owners fault for not taking the time to train them properly.

This should have a hundred likes. I adopted dogs too. Trauma and anxiety cause bad behaviour in dogs and I’m so glad your dog found you and you have built that bond. Not everyone makes the commitment needed but then they don’t have the loyal friend you have now too. Let’s hope that puppy goes to a better family.

Honestly, sending a dog away to be trained is absolutely not the best option. The best is to keep the dog in the home and teach the owners how to work with the dog. It allows the dog to be more confident and comfortable since they're in a familiar environment, it equips the owners to deal with future struggles or training, and allows for owner-dog bonding. Board and trains are useful in some instances, such as service dog training or more serious behavioral issues but for a family pet remaining home is best. That's why there are so many puppy classes

I've got a dog who I've had for 2 years now still she was a newborn and she's been at my parents for a year and a but now (i see her every week tho) she now listens to me more than my family who have her now, I taught her fetch (which she is very competitive and very unsportsmanlike with) that's just part of owning a dog. I sometimes if no one's in the street let her off leash close to home and I taught her to still in front of me so she'll go in big circles always in front of me and comes back by her name being called, she would never do that with someone else walking her.

If he wins ..he can pay some ppl * potentially* if he loses...he digs deeper into debt. He's literally gambling. Most of us know gambling has a slim potential of working out favorably. It's actually sad to see that he's doubling down to possibly land not just him into further troubles..but his wife, kids, and new pup too.

The doggy bootcamp is BS. Even when he gets professionally trained, it is not with you. Bcs. yourself as a dog owner need the training also. If you don’t know how to behave with your dog and how to entertain the puppy, the puppy will in time misbehaved again.
Thats what my dog trainer said to me: There are no bad dogs, there are only bad owners….

I mean I could be completely wrong and this may just be a thing only my dog did lol but he used to come up and put his teeth around your hand, wrist, ears, whatever is small and sticking out lmao and he would like.. pretend to bite/gnaw at it. Like he would move his mouth up and down like he was biting, but he would let his teeth JUST touch you. Like he would NOT bite down.
He did this from the day we got him at 16 weeks old, until the day he died. I'm betting something similar happened here. I mean I hope that's all it was, anyway.

I mean.. yeah idk like I can DEFINITELY understand wanting your dog trained professionally when you have little kids, but like.. they have to send the dog away? I would think it would work better to have them train the dog in the house it would actually be living in.
It's just annoying bc it's like don't get a fcking dog if you don't want to take care of it. Don't get a dog and then punish it for ACTING LIKE A DOG. It's just so weird the way they talk about it like they can't believe a PUPPY would chew things or piss in the house.
It has been my lifelong DREAM to have 2 German shepherds named Honeybun and Reginald, but I have 4 kids between the ages of 2 and 11 rn, so I'm not going to go get 2 puppies knowing I can't possibly take care of them properly and give them the time and attention they need. So instead I'll wait and hope I live long enough to do it later down the road.
It's also weird to buy a puppy when you're in the midst of a financial crisis but ok..
Edit: also I do agree.. training the puppy is a huge part of the bonding experience. That's why I don't understand why they don't just have a professional come to their house and do it there. I have a friend who did that and it was awesome bc the guy not only trained the dogs (he had 2 huskys), but he let my friend be completely involved and it was more Iike he was guiding my friend and like teaching him how to train the dogs. That way there was never an issue of switching who calls the shots and confusing the dogs. Bc HE was the one who trained them (just with help and guidance from a professional). To anyone struggling to train your pet or who could use some help with training, I highly recommend this method. Certainly above just sending your dog away to be trained in a different place and bond with other people so by the time it comes home it barely remembers you and isn't used to the house etc.

if you don't know what you're doing with a puppy, the best thing you can do is get a professional's opinion. I'd much prefer them to have a professional train the dog instead of having the owners fuck up the training and possibly create bad learned behaviours. ESPECIALLY when they have very young children. I think that in that specific situation, they did the right thing. BTW from what i understood, they didn't get rid of the dog, they're sending it to a professional to have it trained. HUGE difference.
