- when i FCd this in 2009 I never had to do this scuffed ass double orange strum method but this time I had to. this game's strumming engine is somehow completely fucked up in which you can get away with extra strums for no apparent reason. It also happened on this stream when I FCd Battery

it probably IS an invisible note, that kinda thing is not too uncommon in WT-era games, Overkill drums come to mind
It's not. There's some weirdness going on with forced strums in this game, but check out Master of Puppets on hard difficulty guitar for an actual invisible note

I actually hit the decending trips by tapping them faster, lol. Not the most consistent method, but it helped me get the FC. But now that I know about the double strum method, I might try to go for a re-FC once I can get capture recordings. Still one of my best console FC's to date.
This will always be the game where I went into the password menu, input random bullshit and got the classic costumes on the first try.
This was a common thing in games of this era where strum inputs on isolated strum notes were eaten by the HOPO notes around them. Unless you happen to be very precise, if the sequence is too fast (I'd say 13 NPS or more) then you might have to spam strum or at least hit the notes before it early for it to register properly. This was incredibly frustrating in songs like Black Widow which had plenty of "random" strums all over the place, at speeds just fast enough to cause problems. Another one is the super fast random yellow strum in Sudden Death preceded by a yellow HOPO, and the red random strum-ish part later on. I remember just randomly strumming through some sections and fluking it as my best strategy on an FC attempt. Not to mention the dreaded grace note in FotS at the start of the section before the BBQ part.
This weird behavior actually carried over to GHL but thankfully the on-disc songs had no HOPO-strum sections fast enough to be an actual threat, Love Bites being the most annoying with the forced open strums.
It's probably just the yellow hammer on eating your strum input that you intended for the orange note. One of the flaws with older gh hammer ons is the window of overstrum protection is so big that it probably reduces the effective hit window when played "as intended" here to something stupidly short

I've never experienced this issue on Dyer's Eve, but I definitely had to "overstrum" on Welcome Home Sanitarium's solo I want to say smokyprog had a video on it back in the day.
one thing I think could be neat is if Clone Hero added the ability to change the size of your hit range, like, if you could choose to play with like GH2's tiny hit range or whatever lmao

I notice everyone has swapped to defaulting to tapping zigs for nearly every single pattern, and I understand it's probably something to do with the 1000hz era, but do you mind elaborating on why this came to be?
@@PriestRSC well 1000hz doesn’t play a factor here since this is console and the double one hand zig is only for entering this section as the engine recognizes enough inputs in that region to not ignore the orange strum.
As for clone hero? People are lazy that’s pretty much it. I still exaggerate my inputs and roll my fingers for trips and quads and do things as they are but honestly with 1000hz you really aren’t permitted to
@@droyal1994 Yeah I meant in context of Clone Hero, I've just noticed for quads and trips people default to using a zig tapping method in CH, which is a shame because I'm atrocious at zigs.
Funnily enough I remember using one handed zigs on Dyers' Eve back in 2009 xd
@@PriestRSC mainly besides laziness people do it for speed. It takes much less time effort to throw your hands on the buttons in a zig motion as opposed to rolling then in either ascending or descending. With the community moving into more speed based things mixed with the leniency of 1000hz it’s just a no brainer if not necessary sometimes. So people default to being good at it in preparation for high intensity speed playing

Glad this little strat I found managed to help someone other than myself FC it. It's worth noting that it's still possible to hit with one strum, but there seems to be weird factors that make it horribly inconsistent, my guess being that the game is stuck in a state where it tries to assign the strum to the preceding HOPO for a weirdly long time. The double-strum just eliminates the inconsistency.

That's so strange. It's even more strange when the note streak counter doesn't jump from 1364 to 1366, as if there were two orange notes. After hitting the orange, it jumps from 1364 to 1365 like normally, as if you only hit once. Weird.
It's because the game is busted. According to the comments, the HOPOs eat the strum input so acai essentially has to strum twice because the first one got eaten.
Acai. Try zigging those trips one-handed, it actually works. I did that on PS2
