  • Hello folks! Today I want to show you my new restoration project. This rusted knife I found at flea market. I like to bring old rusty items back to life. This knife is new in my list. Let's do this.
    Restoration process:
    I used electrolysis process to remove the main layers of rust. Then I used anglegrinder machine with iron brushes. The knife was hardened and I used my little furnace to tempering. Then I made bevels on knife via primitive method due to I don't get right belt sandpaper. Then I corrected the knife shape and hardened it in oil. Further, I removed the patina and dark colors from knife and start to made handle. For knife handle I used ash tree and brass rivets. Finally, for handle, I used two components paint and linseed oil. As usual made test for you. I hope you will enjoy this restoration video.
    Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
    Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

  • @Traderjoe
    @Traderjoe Před 4 lety +1

    That was a hacking knife. Used to cut cable and old dried out putty from around old windows. They were made to be the kind of knife that can handle being hit on the back of the blade with a hammer to force the edge through the old putty or the cable wire. The steel usually is not as hard as a regular knife, because a regular knife would get damaged or shatter if you hit the back with a hammer. Of course, now that you heat treated this, it will be more brittle than a regular hacking knife. The hacking knife has the kind of handles like this one did in the beginning. They still make them. Usually they are from England.

I have a Sicilian heritage, l have a fondness for knives . l enjoy watching you bring them back to a usable condition . lt may also be that in my youth , my mother didn't want us to carry knives , because "hoodlums " carried knives . 😁

    from junk to at least usable. won't win any beauty contests, but so long as it does the job, that's all that really matters. Oh, that's not "two components paint" Here we would call it dye, not paint. IN this case you could call it a stain too, but not paint. Paint is opaque generally speaking and is painted on and left alone.

  • @marcosgigena7991

    I would hesitate to call that a knife to start. two rectangles sandwiching a random piece of steel is, at best, a "knife like object. Once again I think you are misspelling "actually making" as "restoration." Looks good.
