You had so many dumb people that didn't realize that and blasted the movie because of it. They would go in hard, clearly not knowing anything about Wes Craven or just fucking sense. Part 1: the bathtub scene, kissing her & calling himself her bf. Part 2: The seduction of Jesse. Part 3: Seducing and making out with Joey. Part 4: Making out with Sheila. Part 5: the beginning. Part 6: Incest Daddy. I'm like jfc how many clues do you guys need. It was the 80s and they were trying to make commercially viable movies.

This movie would have been better though if it was all a misunderstanding at least I always thought so. Like if there was someone creeping on the kids and Freddy would take them down and hide them for a while to avoid that person and the kids just never articulated clearly what happened and from who. Freddy is wrongly accused for doing something actually good and he comes back vengeful. It could be hinted throughout but the big reveal at the end isn't that he's angry they told, but angry they inadvertently got him killed for helping

@@kaidt5861 Not to mention how many times he did that tongue licking thing in the first movie. Basically they didn't openly want to come out and say it because it was already dark enough with him being a child murder. So there was only hints of it in the movies so they said it by hints not openly saying it.

I recall watching a documentary with Wes Craven, the director of the original Nightmare, he originally wanted to use the child rapist not just murderer plot for his Freddy but then thought that was too dark for it’s time.

In the audio commentary for his first movie The Last House on the Left. I bring this up because it goes along with what you say. This audio commentary wich was made 40 years or so after the movie came out. The movie no real spoilers is about forget it I'm going to just say it women getting assaulted in a personal way. In that audio commentary Wes Craven says he never wanted to make another movie that dark ever again. So it goes along with what you are saying about it being too dark. Because if he said that about women being assaulted in such a manner. You apply that kind of assault to kids that's really dark. So Wes Craven never wanted to make another movie that dark ever again.

Warner Bros and Platinum Dunes were scared to really commit to the darkness the subject matter called for and cut out the really explicit shit so parents wouldn`t be offended as if the very premise itself would not be offensive to parents but what do you expect when you have Samuel Bayer directing and Michael Bay producing? I really did not like this, and I originally thought that maybe I wasn’t remembering the movie for what it was, but then I rewatched it and all the problems were just apparent. A lot of the scenes were taken from the original movie and are placed in ways that don’t make any sense (like the body bag scene, why would it slide off the screen only to come back in front of her), the scene in the original was meant to get Nancy to truly confront Freddy for the first time, here it makes no sense. I also don’t like that Nancy isn’t as independent anymore, her character grew from someone who was just as scared like her friends, into someone determined because of the pain she endured.. this Nancy doesn’t feel like she grew at all and it felt like Quentin (Remake Glen) did a good bit of the work and took away a lot of Nancy’s importance (they decided to try and fix this by making her Freddy’s favorite - which in my opinion is emotionally manipulative). The ending also makes no sense, I get the original one DIDNT either but my interpretation of it was that Nancy never woke up after she brought him out and was stuck in there since she went days without sleeping. In this one, it’s very obvious that they are awake because the dream realm always has things that look different or off than the actual real world (which is something that happens in this movie), so Freddy appearing and killing her at the end makes no sense because he can only have powers in the dream realm. I could go on for days about how I think they handled the child abuse storyline in a bad way (like I mentioned before it seems more emotionally manipulating than actually something to enhance the story) but this comment would be even longer than it is 😭

The ending: Nancy was still in recovery in the ER asleep and she dreamt she was home and Freddy ended up getting who he wanted; what was supposed to be the original ending of the first movie. This movie has a lot and I mean a lot of missing scenes and deleted portions that didn't make the releases. There was a video game scene, a party scene, and more that would have connected every last movie in the series and would have set up for a sequel buuuuut as the Platinum Dunes curse goes, they never really get to the sequel because of the reboots flopping. Blumhouse is considering doing a requel that's along the lines of them focusing on part 3 of the series with 456 sprinkled in. Iaintlikedisonedoe cause it didn't give me real nightmare essence and practical effects are waaaaaay better than CGI. Great review and y'all are hilarious; boffuhyuh

That's because all they did was try to put every character from each of the original Nightmares and put it in the remake. Like the main character was Nancy but she had Alice (part 4 & 5) job as a waitress. Jesse (part 2) was "dating Kirsten (part 3 and 4) who died like Tina and he got framed with murder like Rod. The pool party scene was from part 2. It was just sloppy and lazy writing.

Ok, I will say that the performance in this movie was decent. They did a good job with the timing on the jump scares and the gory blood. I don't wanna be too harsh on Jackie because he was just doing his job and I liked him in Watchmen so I'll salute him on that part. When it comes to horror movies, it's not the worst remake that i've ever seen (that would be Chucky).
However, the real reason why I didn't like this one is because they went against what Freddy was about in terms of him having his own style. Like, I always said what made Freddy the best slasher out of everybody, was the fact that he wasn't a typical slasher who only focused on just gory blood, jump scares, and making it seem like his claws was the only thing on how he killed his victims. In the originals, Freddy blended Johnny Depp, he turned a chick who was afraid of roaches into a roach & squished her. He slammed a chick into a tv because she dreamed of being an actress, kissed a woman by sucking the air out of her body due to her asthma problem, blew up a guy head off with his hearing aid, and even killed a guy inside of a video game. It was creative kills, it's like Robert Englund's Freddy, was painting art by showing us different ways to kill and terrioze his victims whether it was something they feared, loved, or had a weakness whether it was their physical health or something else related to them.
Whereas, this one was lazy and just showed himself to be a terrible artist by being a typical slasher who only focuses on jump scares and gory blood. This one was no different than a Jason movie basically, minus the sex scenes and the boob flashes, and aside from the fact he stalk you in dreams. And the original Freddy is 10 times better than Jason (imo). So long story short, that's mostly why I didn't like this remake (that and because Robert Englund is obviously irreplaceable). This one did have balls by the way, for making remake Freddy into both a child molester and child killer. The original was just a child killer, they were going to make the original a molester too but the 80's wasn't having that type of work back then and it was an incident with a preschool teacher in real life, who got charged with molestation towards a little girl. So that's another reason why this remake got criticized as well💯💯

First about the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. In a deleted scene it's shows they are all connected. In it when Nancy's mom takes her to the basement and tells her the truth. She says Freddy Krueger killed kids in the neighborhood an that everyone he was currently killing had a brother or sister. That Freddy killed them that includes Nancy so he was killing. Them because they killed him because he killed one of their children. Its on youtube so it was revenge on top of Revenge. They killed Freddy because he killed one of their children so now he came back to kill the other one because they killed him.
Now about this movie the child thing was always a part of Freddy Krueger. But they only had hints of it in the earlier movies. Because they wanted to focus on the child murder aspect of Freddy. Because as you seen in this it doesn't really balance out all that well. They spend more time in the movie about the child thing and not enough on him being a murderer. Its like 90% child thing and 10% he kills people in their dreams. Thats why in the original movie they mainly focused on murdering in people's dreams and not a child thing. They only had hints of the child thing but the. Main focus of the movie was him killing people in their dreams. It basically kept the original movie more streamline because it had one core story plot he was a child killer. But this one is a Mass story plot wise because it starts off with the main focus of him killing people in their dreams. Then suddenly becomes about if he did things with children. One movie and two different core story plots in it it makes no sense story wise. Because you start off with it being about one story and then you suddenly make it about another story mid movie. Because in this one it's supposed to be about Freddy Krueger killing people in their dreams. It starts out that way but then it becomes about if he did things to children and that's the main focus now. That's not good storytelling you pick something and then you focus on it the entire time. Like the original movie did they focused on him. Being a child killer and someone that kills people in their dreams the entire movie. Only having subtle hints of the child thing. But they focused on him killing people in their dreams. So the story is more streamlined because it's got one Focus. This movie has two focuses first the one they start off with him killing people in their dreams. Then 2nd if he did stuff to children. You can't have a streamline story if you're bouncing around between two story plots.
I an other people do not like this movie for a technical reason. That is the acting in the movie especially by the one that played Freddy Krueger. It sounds like he is just reading it from the script there's no personality of any kind behind it. I mean anyone can read something in a scary vocal tone and have it sound scary. But in this movie the character Freddy Krueger had no actual personality. The small things that make a personality there was no real stand out. Characteristic for this Freddy Krueger it looks an sounded just like a guy reading a script that's it. For example I'm not comparing him to Robert England because two different people two different versions of the character. But the Small Things Robert Englund did that made him seem like an actual character. Like for example how the hand with the glove on it Robert Englund carried a differently because the glove was slightly heavy. I believe he compared it to like a cowboy walking differently when they had a gun on his hip because that side had more weight on it. So Robert Englund did that with the glove hand for Freddy Krueger because it had more weight. So he stood at a slite angle because of it. Its small little things like that that give a character personality. This Freddy Krueger had zero personality he is actually quite forgettable. Because he doesn't stand out in any way he doesn't demand attention in any way.
Now for how well this movie did in general. We already discussed it if there's a demand for it another movie will be made. In your Jason X reaction video. Put it this way the movie studio planned a sequel for this movie right away. Before it came out because they figured it would be a hit. But after a week of this movie being out they scrapped it and said there's going to be no sequel. So the fact the movie studio scrap a sequel they already planned on making. It shows how well this movie actually did it
shows. They seen there was no demand or no one asking for a sequel to this movie. They seen how well it did in the theaters and they did nothing with the movie franchise since.
You know me here's another example of another movie that this happened to. Halloween resurrection they planned a nother sequel after it. But it performed like this movie did in the theaters then they did nothing with the Halloween movie franchise. Untill several years later and that was the Halloween reboot with Bob zombie.
So the fact they killed the sequel they were planning on making to this movie. Then this movie franchise has not been touched since. Shows how poorly this movie did when it came out. Because as we discussed in you Jason X reaction video. If there is a demand for it and people pay to see it they will make it. But the fact that this movie did not make enough to wornt a sequel says a lot.

They decided to go really dark with this one!!

    • @83shadow3
      @83shadow3 Před 2 lety

@@SomethingCinema The problem with the movie is not that they went really dark with it. The problem with the movie is technical issues like the. Acting especially when it comes to the one that played Freddy Krueger it was not good. The acting seemed flat throughout the movie. Then storytelling wise you can't start your movie with the focus being about one thing. Like someone that kills people in their dreams. Then suddenly make the main focus of the movie. About if that person did things to children. Then make the original Focus that being someone that kills people in their dreams. Just something that happens in the movie because this entire movie they talk about if he did things to children. When it should be focused on the fact that he is killing people in their dreams. So you have doll or lack luster acting throughout the movie. Then a story plot that makes no sense because it starts off as one story plot. Then it switches to another story plot mid movie.
People are fine with dark story plots but people are not fine with doll or lackluster acting. Then a story plot that makes no sense and is confusing because it starts off with one main story plot. Then that one becomes irrelevant and becomes about another story plot in this case if he did things to children. When the first story plot was about him killing people in their dreams. It would be like a story starting out about a apple then Midway through it is about a banana all of a sudden. It makes no sense storytelling wise. You pick a main story plot and you stick with it all the way through. You don't pick one and then suddenly sift to another one halfway through.
This that's why it did not do that well in the movie theaters regardless of what anyone says. Because they planned a sequel to it right away but this one did not make enough money to justify a sequel so they scrapped it. So obviously the majority of people and fans did not like it and word spread and people didn't see it. So the movie studio went it's not worth making a sequel to it. Because it did not make enough to justify making a sequel and the reviews for it showed people did not like it.
For example Friday the 13th every one of those movies made enough to justify another movie. To the movie studio now the Halloween movie franchise every Halloween movie with Michael Myers. Made enough money to justify another movie except for when it came to Halloween resurrection. They planned to make a sequel to Halloween resurrection. But it basically had the same thing happen like this movie it didn't make enough to justify. It did not make enough to justify another movie after Halloween resurrection. This movie did not make enough money to justify a sequel to it.
For anyone that reads this and goes you really can't compare different movie franchises to one another I'm not comparing them I'm comparing the statistics. Basically the fact that movie franchises all have one thing in common. That being in order for them to make a sequel to that movie. The one that came before it had to make enough to justify it. To the movie studios to make a sequel if a movie does not make enough to justify it they will not make it. Thats why I mentioned Friday the 13th movie franchise and Halloween movie franchise with Michael Myers. Friday the 13th movie franchise everyone made enough to justify another movie. The Halloween movie franchise with Michael Myers did not make enough after Halloween resurrection. Just like this movie did not make enough to justify a sequel like they planned. In both cases the movie franchises had nothing happened in them for years after. Halloween resurrection and this movie for a Nightmare on Elm Street. It took years before the Rob Zombie reboot came out after Halloween resurrection. Then nothing has been done since this A Nightmare on Elm Street movie to the A Nightmare on Elm Street movie franchise.
I mean if they wanted to make it about if he did things to children. Then it should of been the main story plot from the beginning. But for the entire first part of the movie it was about him killing people in their dreams. Then it becomes about if he did things to children. If they wanted it to be about him possibly doing things to children. That's what the entire thing should have been about from start to finish. Then end the movie with the Parents killing him then show him kill someone in their dreams. You know like sequel bait.

Feel bad you had watch this remake I mean I guess if your a fan or liked any of the original films as bad as some were you likely didn't like this and one main reason is the guy playing Freddy isn't Robert Englund. The guy playing him in this film did a creepy job and looking like a burn victim was a nice touch but the film just didn't sit well with people or horror fan more so. Some say the same with the friday remake which I thought was a better outing than this one!

The actor that played Freddy was good, but he was no Robert England. So much bad acting in the movie, and so many cut and paste scenes from the original make this one of the worst remakes. You're reactions are always fun to watch, no matter what the movie though. Always here for them. Keep it up, girls!

That an it starts out with the movie being focused on Freddy Krueger being someone killing people in their dreams. Then it suddenly becomes a movie about did he actually do things to children. Its like who cares that he kills people in their dreams now. The main focus is did he do things to children. Thats not good storytelling because this movie has two focuses one it starts with and then it ignores. Then it mainly focuses on did he do things to children. Thats why original movie works because it focused on him killing people in their dreams. With only little hints of the child thing but it was only hints. The mean Focus was him killing people in their dreams and being a child murder. One movie One Focus him being a child murder who now kills people in their dreams.

this was the last movie i got from blockbuster, i didnt like the movie upon first viewing. it kinda ruin freddy movie. in the original its implied that he did something to the kids but it also looks like the parents singled him out due him being just a quiet man that mostly kept to himself and was wrong accused by the parents.
with this one they went with the original script for freddy. the effects was decent but the actor playing Freddy wasnt doing it for me, like his performance was not memorable at all but ya'lls reaction made watching this again worth it.

Lol There is no need to what this. EVER!! These remakes all have to have a connection in the storyline, give way too much backstory that, I feel, is unnecessary and it does not improve the original movies. I love Jackie Earl Haley who played Freddy in this but there was something about Robert Englund’s Freddy that cannot be duplicated because the original captured lightning in a bottle, you know?! The creators tried to make this more darker, seamless dream sequences blurring the line between dream and reality and the one liners Freddy have in this was mocking their death rather than the predicament the victims found themselves in. The original is way more better than any remake. However, there are only 3 remakes, as far as I’m concerned, that are better than the originals: Last House on the Left, I Spit On Your Grave and Fright Night. Take care!
