  • Its a tape deck resurrection.
Don't like the way I do things, that's a YOU problem.
Put it another way, do the letters FO mean anything to you?
(movie buffs will know exactly where that one came from)

Thank you. This video allowed me to remove a stuck cassette from a Sansui D65BW double cassette deck. Now I know what it needs for repairs. 😊

I never thought that I would ever see a ground cable attached to a cassette deck… until now! Thanks for the entertaining and informative video!!!

Thank you Dave for your selfless efforts to practically teaching everyone to put their own hands in repairing their own tape players, receivers and so on. I have watched all your videos and learned a lot. I truly appreciate your sincerity. I don't see any reason for anyone to complain about your videos on CZcams.
I have always been impressed by Marantz tape decks but recently I was thinking of purchasing Sansui, somehow I like their physical outlook. Now that I see, you don't like them, then I change my mind.
    Thanks again.

Never seen a ground cable on a cassette deck before.... must have been a component part of a rack system

For being a cheap deck is not that bad: both transports have a dedicated motor for the reels and the overall cabinet is decently built. Comparable AIWA's of the same period are built way more cheaply than that. As for the spring resting against the bottom cover, it is not such a bad idea, it's metal against metal, way better than having the spring pushing against a plastic post which might brake with age.

i was under the impression sansui was a decent brand. at least that's what i was told back in the mid 90's when i was shopping for a deck and the salesman recommended sansui., but maybe that changed over the years

Mr. Volts ⚡️You are well within your parameter Rights, to weigh the cost effectiveness against the customer's payee margin. Which then equates to your profit 📈 sustainably against the Job Work. I hold you in High Regard, Sir! 😊 MJ. In B'dos.

There has been no profit in repairs for over 20 years. I left the repair business in 2003 because there was no money. I had to take on a second job to make ends meet. People seem to think that customers will spend money on old vintage equipment. I wish that was true. A few might but 95% will not.

Thanks Dave for the informative video! I have a Sansui D-70CW double cassette deck like the one you worked on. So now I'm hopeful that I can fix it. You mentioned that the belt is 4mm in width. Do you know the length? Thanks for your time!

I would have to agree on the do the bare minimum to get it working thing... however, if you were to have it in your own personal collection I could see spending more time and money on it to restore it to near new condition

Twin decks twice the pain and cost of belts making many not worth doing but i did see an interesting pioneer twin deck with auto calibration and pioneers digital noise reduction on you tube i found one on uk ebay and it sold for £35 pretty quickly their digital nose reduction is far better than dolby and works independently does not need any encoding on tape .Worst twin deck i done belts on was a kenwood one side was easy the other a right pain amd it never sounded great .When i bought a new deck in my 20,s i had to have a twin deck i knew nothing about 3 head decks or the fact single decks are better i still have my Aiwa AD-WX828 that i bought new .

@4:50 LOL I would have thought something flew off the unit at first...and not the bottom cover -- it just looked bad with those ugly chunky buttons and dual tape mechanism.. not many are great. Some dual JVCs can take a beating and sound decent.. putting one through the test now a month of continuous play .. has that cool feature - and have only had to clean heads once and haven't lost speed - using kind of crappy tapes but surprised they were better than I thought.

Hey Dave. I've been longing to get my hands on one of this exact model of decks for as long as I can remember. I would possibly want to purchase it from your client. I'm in Europe, so 230 V a/c voltage. I desire a deck like this so much, that I would possibly even consider having the transformer re-winded for our voltage, if the machine only works with 120 V.
If you think that I'm going wrong in my reasoning here, I'm open to hearing how or why, but please don't just ridicule or slam me, as I'm being serious about this.
    Greetings from Sweden /Lars

I am sure he would be happy to sell it to you. He is a viewer of the channel so I am sure he will see your comment. No need to rewind the transformer, just a cheap 10.. 240-120 step down. I have one that goes both ways and I think I paid 10 or 12 for it as I have a 240 only radio.

Sansui were never the best of brands, this twin deck is typical of the lower end trash that they and a few others made at the time.
If the customer want's a quick low cost repair, then that is what they get.
I don't blame you Dave for only changing the B deck belt.
