No worries! Yeah the shop wanted to charge my parents about $100-$200 to change just the "D" drive bulb that burnt out back in 2007. They didn't, and I looked into how to change the bulbs and did it myself. The $100 is all labor, but it is still way too much. It only takes about 30 mins for a professional to do the entire job...
I used this video to fix my bulbs. I have a real anxiety about trying to fix things myself. This video helped me so much. Thank you very much. I even changed the green to a whiter color.
Cool video! Just recently replaced the instrument lights with LED on my son's 97 Camry. What a difference it makes driving at night. Now the "D" drive light is out. Will be replacing that bulb soon.
Excellent video tutorial one of the best I’ve seen so far. If I can make just one request for future videos please slow the camera down a little bit so I can get a better view thank you so much keep them coming
Thank you so much for this! I am a do-it-myself kind of gal and it was so helpful. Only comment I might add is that the manager in the auto supply store where I purchased the bulbs suggested disconnecting the positive lead on the battery before starting.
That wouldn't be a bad idea at all! However I would say disconnect the NEGATIVE lead. You always disconnect the negative lead first and reconnect it last because it is what closes the circuit.
My exact same far right on the RPM gauge bulb is blown too. Just happened so I'll follow your vid to fix it. I've already fixed climate control bulbs and was worried about dash bulbs until now. Thank you!
Thanks so much. But two things I recommend you. 1.before starting to replace you should have showed us what bulbs should be replaced by turning on the panel. 2. Let someone to hold the camera for you that would seem better. Thanks again.
You might also want to hold off on the repair and go buy LEDs on eBay. You could replace the entire dash for about $10, whereas $10 at Autozone would only give you 4 bulbs. There's about 20 bulbs give or take for all the instrument lights.
Thanks for the video. Some of my back-lit bulbs are out as well ('01 TC). However, I have to imagine that the "CEL" one would not easily go out, correct? I'm now concerned that since I have some issues with blown-bulbs, there could be others that I don't know about? HMM. I will hook-up my OBD scanner to check for codes to make sure I don't have any just incase my CEL light isn't working. Just acquired the car a week ago, btw.
I found using different size flat head screwdrivers worked very well. It's cold out here in Pennsylvania December 9,2022. I used a small ceramic electric heater and put it in the car rather then start the car and use the cars heater. I want to know what size bulbs are the very small ones. And can you touch them with your fingers? Thank you 👍👍
Do you think the '01 Camry can take LED replacements? I've got an 01 with two burnt bulbs and I'm about to go in to change them, but I was wondering if it can take the LEDs on the market now.
+David Elia No worries, glad I could help! The "D" gear bulb is the first to go since its ALWAYS ON. Mine burnt out in 2007 but it was not that big of a deal since I would know I was in gear if I there was no light on hahaha. But The back-lights burnt and that's when I knew it was time.
lots of back and forth discussion on the proper size instrument panel lights. What is the correct size light bulbs for the shift indicators, warning lights, and the backlights, and are the bulb holders a different size, for a 2001 Toyota Camry CE? Thanks
I just did this in my 95 avalon. and it was simple... the bulb though was not burned out, i found out that it was not making solid contact as when i had the cluster out it worked and when i pushed it back in all the way to screw it in , the light would not come on.. once i made sure the contact surface was clean ( i had even switched the bulb with another just to make sure) and it stayed lit till the engine came on... tried several times and it was good.... You could definitely replace it with an LED. In fact an LED would be cheaper if you buy it on eBay in bulk. Just make sure you buy the correct size and one that is not too long. Also you want to get one that is 3 dimensional if you get an LED because if you get one with only one diode it will not illuminate the sides all too well. Think of it this way a single diode LED is like a spot light with ien straight beam. Whereas, a incandescent bulb (which the car came with) is like a flood light lights up the sides very well. Also, if you use LEDs that green cover shown in the video won't fit.
Great video. I found that I'm missing some number 74 bulbs and sockets which are the tiny bulbs and sockets. I live in Broomall Pa. 19008 Can you give me an idea where to purchase sockets. If I have some time I'll check to see if there is a PN for just the socket.

There are quite a few. I don't have the exact numbers but I believe it's 6 194 bulbs for the backlit instrument and like 20 74 bulbs for all the warning lights. You don't need to replace all 20 because lights like the airbag warning, traction light, check engine, burnt bulb warning etc. only come on once in a blue moon or temporarily at startup. When the light blinks once slow when the car is locked the alarm is on.
When the alarm is on, in is triggered by loud noises motion. Tire kickes quick pulls on the door handle, dents on the car etc. It honks once if it's a minor force and then the alarm goes off for 1min if it's a heavy force.
Also if you come back to the car after the alarm has gone off for 1 minute. When you unlock the car it will honk instead of chirp. And the red light will be flashing really fast non-stop until you start the car.
@@3mori460 Also yes I have the same issue.
Thank you, Dealer was going to charge me $210.00 (Midwest Prices). I can DIY. I bid you Peace.
Jack Wongen No worries man, when my parents wanted to change the "D" bulb they were quite for about $200 as well back in 07 or so (west coast price). So they never changed it. IMO this I not worth $200 in labor or parts...
counkev please send me link to D bulb mine is burned out as well
I wish the 2003 Camrys were the same way, i cant find the bulbs to save my life, theres no bulb slots
Aaron Ryan Really? I take it you took out the instrument cluster? It should be the same procedure. Instrument clusters are extremely similar across all cars and models.
I know this is old, but the 2003 lights are soldered directly to the board
Wow that's dumb. I think the Gen 5 Camry's used an LCD panel? The lights were on all the time.
counkev as far as I know people desoldered them to change them, so I don't think it was an LCD panel
The bulb 74 is not the size bro.
Yes it is. Here is the link to the bulbs on AutoZone: www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/glove-compartment-light-mini-bulb/sylvania-glove-compartment-light-mini-bulb/16841_0_18269
It's for the smaller bulbs like the gear indicator and warning lights. The larger bulbs are size 194
Looking for the small bulb.
You mean in your gauge cluster, or did the link not work?
counkev in the cluster 74 bulb tad big. Had to go to 5 different places to get them all 23 bulbs. now returning them. another comment says they are 2721. going to find out.
