- In this beginner friendly Warframe Guide, I'll explain step-by-step how to mod ANY Warframe in the game RIGHT!
Warframes are the most complicated things to mod well. But I figured out a simple to understand way that you can follow to always find the best mods for your Warframe of choice. And that's what I'm going to show you today.
This Warframe Guide is inspired by the works of TheKengineer, WarframeFlo, KnightmareFrame, Grind Hard Squad and many more...

I copy paste a build then based on feel I either drop the build or I alter it to fit myself better through trial and error

On energy drainers you can IGNORE duration, and use both efficiency mods for the minimum draining effect. Because the formula for energy drain is (200 - efficiency) / duration , and the efficiency in this formula is not capped on 175, you can use fleeting expertise and streamline (both maxed) and run with it no problem
I would say this is good on the efficiency side (if you are only modding for the toggle ability), but for some frames the upside of modding for duration instead to have more duration on your other abilities (for example mesa) would be more beneficial.
Well too much negative duration from fleeting expertise and transient Fortitude could still lead to a higher drain.
No matter what, ability cost and energy drain are capped at a quarter of it
With fleeting expertise and streamline a person would reach 175 efficiency, which is the cap.
BUT, i noticed something, even tho the cap says 175, its actually higher than that, coz with both mods an ability that costs 100 energy would cost 25, but when i use it i am paying like 10 energy per cast.
My suspicion is that the cap shown on the stats page isnt the same as the actual cap
First of all, this is a good video for newbie.
Second, After 10+ years of playing this, here is how I approach modding warframes:
- Check out wiki, each warframe will have a detail ability wiki page for you to check out.
- Get a good feel when you lvling your new warframe.
- Mod your Frame according to your playstyle, don't have to follow meta.
Or you can ask others about builds made for certain aspects. Like I asked about a Gauss Prime speed/duration build and someone showed me one. It's not meta but that means I can have fun and run for a long time
I always set basic mods at first for leveling, then i ask for someones build and maybe reasoning to use as reference for my own
Your how-to guides lately are on-point. I strongly believe this is exactly what the community needs, rather than just copy/paste builds. With these kinds of guides players will be able to understand why the copy/paste builds work, and how to tweak them if they decide to use them. Excellent Series! And also instead of copy-paste builds, you can ask people for certain aspects you want with your frame. I've asked for a Gauss Prime build that allows me to go fast and run for a long time. Someone helped me create a speed/duration build, I still haven't finished it but with what I have, it's good. Not meta but fun

I like the idea of this video but it's hard to have a gold standard for building warframes, it's not always just stat dumping to make one ability good on a frame. However explaining sheild gate tanking is cool and I'm glad that even though you made a video on it you still explained it.
Yes, this was definitely tough to write. There is just sooo much to consider when putting together a loadout. Sure this method here is not 100% perfect but I think it's the closest we can get to a universal modding approach ;)
One thing that was Left out is the Abilities Section in the UI includes Tool Tips that Further explains what Abilities do and Clue you in on any Synergies that Warframe has.
There's also a Tool Tip that appears when hovering over any Stat in the Arsenal that explains what those stats are in General.
@@lookalike4805and with all of the recent QoL updates there's even more tooltips and info in the modding screen. They also made more things viable so variety is more useful, but that's not that important for new players.

You can mod any warframe into a shield gater by equipping augur secrets. What that mod does is when u use an ability, 40% of the energy used in this ability is turned into shields

The Excalibur side with duration vs efficiency I can tell you that when using such things both can effect the energy per second loss of energy. So you can not just sink the all efficiency for duration

I honestly just use Adaptation and then proceed to max out ability strength. Usually it works out well, but toxin damage still whoops me something fierce

Tbh for Loki, you can just run Loki with a shieldgate build if you don't want to run max duration. It can actually be more fun to run Rolling Guard and Catalyzing Shields.

I can't tell if the winky face is just for fun or meant as a cheeky challenge like "good luck shield-gating on a frame with an unrecastable 50 energy ability, two 25 energy abilities, and a long cast animation 4". But Loki has 56 shields with Catalyzing Shields so it's very comfortable ^_^. I don't even use Catalyzing Shields on him. I have a range build and a duration build, and both just use rolling guard + augur mods. I also use Natural Talent if I plan on doing content where I can easily die. But I'm more of an end-game player with maxed arcanes for extra revives if ever needed, last gasp for extra insurance, maxed mods, maxed Helminth, so sorry if my comment is not as useful here lol. I'm a member of the cult of ginormous range permanent disarms and Warframe melee unit AI.
@@MHBlacky_ENG I'm still experimenting. Pillage is a very simple general ability with other utility but I've found reave holds some potential though I need to do more testing to see how it plays out in more varied situations. I need to use an aural forma to try more interesting abilities via Helminth and Brief Respite though. I wanna see if I can use something that benefits from Blind Rage that doesn't break energy efficiency too badly that's still viable for his kit. Arcane Energize can compensate alongside extra duration from archon crystals is my thought. Mind you I have not done a lot of testing yet but I intend to once Plague Star ends.
As some folks pointed out: you're incorrect on the idea that duration is more responsible for drain energy per second than efficiency. Go check your math.
In a practical example, I have a build that uses a maxed streamline(+30%eff), rank 3 fleeting expertise(+40%eff, -40%dur), and a maxed archon continuity(+55%dur) netting me 115% duration and 170% efficiency. On that build I have gloom subsumed, and it's got a max drain/s of 1.96. If I replace Fleeting with a maxed Constitution(+28%dur) for a net change of -40% efficiency and +68% duration, I get a max drain/s on gloom of 2.87.
Try it yourself and see what you get. Efficiency has a far higher weight when determining drain. Duration is certainly a factor, but Efficiency is king.

PS: one other neat thing about channeled abilities like gloom and exalted blade is that they keep whatever your ability stats were when you cast it. So effects that temporarily boost power strength, like Hardened Wellspring on zenurick, can give you a permanent boost so long as you can keep the ability up. This also works for effects like Molt Vigor that only apply to one cast. Making them exceptionally good on these abilities.
Efficiency and duration together allow energy drainers to stay in their alt form....almost indefinitely....this is perfect for frames like Harrow....you need both to get your energy per kill to max your E bar with every kill
Uhm, I'm just commenting here to say I'm a little confused. Efficiency is kind of a dump stat on Harrow (i.e. negative efficiency charges Thurible faster, meaning less time spent charging it to get a better boost, and more time spent killing). His 2 lasts a long ass time and is refreshable. Condemn is cheap to cast. His 4 will cost you like 155 energy with Blind Rage and no efficiency but it's very easy to manage. Harrow works better with a bigger energy bank, not more energy efficiency.
@@rawkhawk414 I have 2 builds with flat 100 efficiency but my favorite one to play has 140 and nearly 200 duration with over 200 per strength. I have thermal sunder on this build. I can get to over 100 energy per kill.... can't remember what headshots get but at this point I can spam my nuke with reckless abandon.
I'm on PS4 if you ever want to meet up and go to a simulacrum. I know my 140 efficiency build can charge his therible up for longer and therefore he easily gets the highest returned energy per kill....at least potentially. In mission I can't always find a safe spot. My other build uses pillage to shield tank and replace them after I buff fire rate with the self flagellation ability.
@@rawkhawk414 I removed his 4 off all 3 builds. I use him to shoot automatics at insane speed, reload quickly and shield tank....and in the case of thermal sunder....area nuke.

Me who modded Hildryn for max shields as well as ability strength: *yes, damage.*
All I really have for mods are shield increases, ability strength increases, and das it. My archon shards are all red (bonus strength if they are tauforged) and breach surge for even more damage. 3 skill to apply mini damage/fire procs with the 2 skill which stuns basic enemies, 2 skill to full strip enemies, and 4 skill to amplify damage as well as crowd control. Breach surge also damages other enemies but by breach surge/enemies close enough to the enemy hit by breach surge. In conclusion, high survivability, one tap armor strip, one tap mega damage multiplier, and epicly noice crowd control. Any high damage/high crit weapon will devastate the battlefield. Though breach surge doesn't work against bosses, use nourish or roar for a substitute. If you don't need extra damage or crowd control? Use pull or something similar. Armor strip, pull them into a big meatball, and kill the ball. Simple. And if you worry about toxin in sp, just make sure you have over shield, and your 2 always spammed to make sure you don't die to toxin immediately.

One thing I tell anyone who asks about my builds is that having base, or 95% efficiency is fine for 90% of the frames. I use Blind Rage and a -1 from max Fleeting Expertise to hit this breakpoint. Even if you are spamming skills having Equilibrium is more than enough imo.
Yes, that's true. The more methods we have for Energy regen the less important Efficiency is going to get ^^

From my own experienced, I found players struggling to decide whether their weapons CAB be modded for CRIT or not because they're confused with the weapons stats.
Some weapon have low CC but decent CD (2X) and a good SC (30%) and they might think "Oh its a status weapon" but Crit on it might be better, and vice versa. And decides which elements combos might be difficult because they may not know orders which goes and which can be left out because it'd already be combined (innate)
That is definitely something that new players struggle with aswell.
That's why I also talked about this in great detail on the corresponding video to this here where I explain how to mod Weapons ;)
Unless you have something like kullervo's 1 to buff your crit chance insanely high, a low crit chance 2x multiplier weapon isn't worth building for crit if it's got 30% status... You absolutely should be building that for status usually. Specific build combos can change that sure but as a general rule the player saying "ah this is a status weapon" is right
A x2 multiplier is average btw...And I feel like it's worth mentioning that 15% to 20% crit chance might seem relatively low, but it's ASOLUTELY worth investing a bit into your crits if you've got a weapon with 15% crit chance, x2 crit damage, even if it has absurd 50% status chance. Unless that weapon is only going to be used for priming you're going to want some values to scale your status damage with. 15% becomes 45% with just Critical Delay. Doubling the damage of roughly 1/2 your shots versus roughly 1/7 of your shots is a big dps increase. There are weapons with horrible crit chance that everyone knows about, and even these are good to build for crits--but only with Arcane Avenger, Harrow, or Ballistic Battery and other support--like Nukor, Basmu, Bubonico, Sporothrix, etc. And then there are weapons like Embolist, Tysis, where no crit mods should ever really get close to them. Imo, 10% to 15% CC is about the limit where it's barely worth it without Arcane Avenger, and only if it has at least x2 crit damage. Many beams have slightly less at x1.5 to x1.9 for example.

Quick question: which category does kullervo fall in? I personally built hin like a tank and added a few ability strength mods, but i started wondering if i should only double down on one.

One tip. There can be multiple builds per warframe, depending on what you want
volt for example, for speed and eidolon hunts you want ability strength, duration, and a bit of hp and shields
for volt nuke/tank build you might go for range and augement "Capacitance"
And certain warframes benefit from debuffs like Nidus can recast larva with lower ability duration for farming endo in arena
Basically. Your build can change DRAMATICALLY depending on WHAT you want to use the warframe for. It aint as simple as balancing out all abilities, sometimes you mod for only 2 abilites
Or just build max fire rate gun ,slap with arcane + fire rate , ammo mutation and shooting a whole magazine to grineer head

I say eff it and slap Redirection Primed Vigor Vitality Steel Fiber and Intensify on everything. (cept Inaros/Nidus) and just brute force it. Powers to me are a silly added bonus. I'm here to play with guns.
Well to each their own I guess, but abilities give some amazing utility and in some cases damage (tho not all, obviously, but things like armor striping abilities are good example).
Still, I find kind a silly to play like that in a game such as Warframe :/
At 10:00 there is some misinformation.
Effeciency is more effective than duration to lower drain/s.
At 175% efficiency - 100% duration Exalted Blade costs 0.63 E/s (I know this combination isn't possible, it's just an example)
At 175% duration - 100% efficiency Exalted Blade costs 1.43 E/s
Both efficiency and duration matter but efficiency is actually more effective, small detail but worth noting
What’s your Inaros build, arcades included?
I find modding sometimes works better to compensate for your frames weaknesses.
For example, Grendel has lots of health and armor but low shields. If you give him Pillage.....now he can get like 1300 with overshielda....add the 2 arcanes that buff your shields.....now it'll take an unbelievable amount of damage to break your defenses.
But then you can't use his 1 ability with the augment to make it better. Grendel also thrives with as much defense as possible, now combine that with as much HP as possible, and he is nearly unkillable. Really, the only way he can die in that scenario is if you get carried away using his 1 too often and you are being bombarded by really strong eximus enemies. Even then, however, he is still hard to kill. His 2 is especially helpful when paired with ludicrous amounts of health and defense. My Grendel is modded to have over three thousand health and, with enemies in his gut, 90+ armor. I haven't even started New War yet, so this build is only with average to good mods. No arcades or even amazing mods. With that being said, Grendel is by far my strongest warframe. Only Revenent Prime comes close.

Sad you didn't touch on the Quick Thinking method- almost tripling your default DR from armor/powers and giving you access to a massive energy pool for health
I run it on a Nova that's fully capable of steel path and Archon Hunt survivability. Tho to be fair the damage boost from her 4 does a lot of heavy lifting, as we know "a CC enemy is better than a debuffed enemy, and a dead enemy is better than a CC'd enemy" and molecular prime does all 3

What I'm backwards. :'D It's been almost intuitive for me to mod warframes, while I've always had to think about weapons. :'D I can also easily tell the impact of warframes much faster than weapons. As I can see how affected abilities are in real time. If I put on a duration and it's not affecting many abilities, then I know it's not for that frame. Weapons take me so much testing. :"D
This survivability section is a bit of a mess imo as you've left out two highly important factors from what you are attempting to explain, arcane guardian & rolling guard.. those absolutely should've been mentioned in the appropriate sections. Adaptation without arcane guardian falls off very early & rolling guard makes shield gating much more relaxed/practical.. I feel like operator healing arcanes should've been at least mentioned as well since a lot of people waste arcane/ability/mod slots on this.
Modding can help, but focus schools will really let you take off in the direction you want to pursue your build. if your energy hungry, get zenurik... if you want more upfront toughness and get rid of enemy shields... Unairu. etc... make use of more then your warframe, and experiment often.

Whats the point in tanks? I imagine most decent warframes can survive endgame content. There are also CC warframes, so what do tank warframes bring to the table? I am new so this might be a dumb question but from first impressions I don't see why you would need that if other frames that are not tanks can survive.

Also, I noticed it wasn't mentioned in the shield gating section, the bigger your shields are, the larger the I-frame window becomes. So, if you're shields are at like 120, you'll have like .5 seconds. My current Gauss shield gate/tank build, I get 2.5 seconds after my shields break, and then I have a rolling guard. I can give myself 5.5 seconds of I-frames. My Gauss gating is my main for SP
Inaros is such a meme xD "Frames where you hardly use thier abilities at all" cause Inaros abilities are actually outdated AF xD I'm really happy with Hydroid's rework. I do not want new frames. I want reworks! like Valkyr....why....why a, zip line? Just...no. Chroma, Inaros, and Oberon need some love.
P.S. btw, before someone kills me, I love Chroma. He's a lot of fun. But his 1st ability is useless, even in star chart, his second ability, only has 1 top tier aura. And Vex armor, has more synergies with helminths. I like his four. I like it for passive play, because I can just be like "lets get some creds". Like, literally tweak and alter his kit slightly, and then Chroma is a META pick. Same with Inaros, and Oberon.

Yep, you're just trading survivability for nuke potential. Just make sure you kill faster than the enemies can kill you (example: Nova cause her 4 to slow down and catalyze damage between enemies)

I'd just put them under Caster category. They all need to setup the nuke in one way or another, most of the time it's done through a combination of various skills in succession plus weapon play. Sure Equinox casts her 4 in day Form and can just kill enemies while in nightform with her weapons but she still needs to switch back to her day form and activate the nuke. Or a terrify day equinox is pretty casting heavy. Another example would be Mag - even if she doesn't fit the Nuke Frame directly. As Mag you're constantly casting and building up a Nuke with your 2 to delete entire rooms.

Depends. If youo mainly go for her Motes, then as a supporter but if you build her into Breach Surge then as a damage dealer ;)

so, what's the difference exactly between a warframe that can be a tank using shields for tanking, and one that has to use shieldgating? how do I know if it's better to build more shield capacity or a quicker shield refill? don't they just go hand in hand?
If your warframe is using it shield basically as its health bar it's more important to increase max shield.
But for other warframes who use primarily health you get more out of having a fast recharging shield that guarantees you survive a big hit and still have health to fall back on.
The more shield you have, the less likely you are to get shield gated.

On a slightly unrelated note i really hope arcane meta changes at least A TINY BIT because it fills like at least 50 to 60 percent of build videos is just molt augmented and energize. Nothing else.. minus a few set ups of course.

If you'll allow me for a moment. Frankly, those are the cookie cutter arcanes because many meta content creators GENERALLY test or sort of base everything on Survival mission Kills-Per-Minute. But let's reassess for a second. At this point in time Equilibirum far surpasses lame-ass Arcane Energize unless you are doing something INCREDIBLY energy intensive--at which point you'll use Energize and Equilibrium. In other words, who even uses Energize anymore? It's meta? lol if you have a copy sell it now before people catch on and the price drops. Free yourself. I actually think it'll be hard for Energize to shake off its legendary status in people's minds and for its price to drop much more. Yet it's literally no longer the best way to manage your energy economy, but it's still the EASIEST way. It requires no effort whatsoever beyond grabbing energy orbs. In the past it also didn't have a cooldown, which it's had for a while now--this is really what makes in unable to compete with Equilibrium or Nourish (it's still good, free energy, and maybe your build REALLY needs that Equilibrium slot for a different mod. Or maybe you're currently a Nourish addict.
Try Molt Vigor on frames that like to snapshot their buffs or for shorter missions. The defensive arcanes are all extremely comfortable. Molt Efficiency lets me dump duration with Transient Fortitude or Fleeting Expertise more comfortably, or boost already good duration builds. The Arbitration Arcanes like Primary Blade Charger are fantastic and let you experiment with the arcanes on your weapons more. Arcane Arache works on Breach Surge (it's pretty funny with Vigorous Swap). Arcane Pulse gives very consistent CC. Arcane Double Back for damage reduction is liked by some people. With equilibrium you can sustain LOW efficiency builds sometimes even BETTER than Energize with the Arcane that gives you a chance for your next 3 abilities to cast for free.
I do use Molt Augmented on most of my builds for comfort, but there are so many scenarios where it's unnecessary and barely getting value--I just don't care enough to swap: SP Incursions for things like Capture, Assassinate, Sabotage, Exterminate, World Bosses, random non-SP crap where enemy density sucks and mission is time-limited like Sisters/Liches, Kuva Siphon, many old starchart farms. It also has to do with the fact that Zariman arcanes are extremely accessible + some people have grown so attached to Energize either because it was all that was good or because they spent a ton on it. But trust me, Energize got a little overrated overnight all the way back (was it Voruna's release? or earlier this year with Citrine perhaps? I can't remember) when DE made Health Orbs grant 50 Health instead of 25, doubling how much energy they give you with Equilibrium. Imo the nail in the coffin was just buffing Equilibrium recently to allow orb pickup at full health without needing your companion around or alive with Synth Fiber equipped. Also Energize isn't worthless, it's just in general mod slots are important, duh, but imo some Arcanes do more unique things than some mods, and Equilibrium costs a mod slot, but Energize costs an arcane slot. Essay I know lol.
TL;DR. Augmented is very good, yeah, but it's a little overused and not always getting value. Energize is not king anymore but I'm cool with people continuing to believe that cuz I like feeling powerful and special. It's mostly just quality of life thing nowadays whereas Energize USED to be the best way to manage your energy economy bar none. I have far more Warframes with Molt Efficiency + Molt Augented or sometimes Vigor than I do Energize. And yes I have a max rank copy of Energize and still use it on some builds for convenience. I can't bring myself to sell my only max rank copy...but I really don't use it much lol.

His most meta build is through his 4, so build for power strength, efficiency and some duration, get yourself chromatic blade augment, build exalted blade for condition overload, throw some survivability and it pretty much it
