      Many games do look promising at the early stages of development.
      I am a little worried, though: So far the demo is only an ordinary base builder.
      Yes, it is using a mars terrain map, but that is mostly only as "background image". - Important resources are "random map" placed.

      @meetalleeka Před 3 lety

      @@Airbiscuitmaker - Yes, the planet's a little small compared to the size of the objects being built, but I can only assume it's a functional choice; too large a map with too many buildings on it may cause too much lag, for example.

    • @ryanaegis3544
      @ryanaegis3544 Před 3 lety +1

      I was thinking about the viability of a city planet like Corusant, specifically, how Corusant wouldn't overheat, and I came to the realization that the planet had to be too cold for life to start with. Like Mars. Elon Musk's crazy plan to nuke the Martian ice caps to create enough CO2 in the atmosphere for a greenhouse affect, thus making Mars warm enough, at least around the equator, might not be that crazy after all. That warming effect is supposed to only last for about 200 thousand years. Humans could establish a civilization there, and make Mars into Corusant, and as the atmosphere is stripped away and the planet cools again, the heat generated by civilization would balance everything out. Crazy to think about, but I think maybe possible.

      It makes sense for power buildings, vehicle hubs, and maintenance hubs. These three provide coverage. The areology scanner could be a 4th one, if scanning slows down with distance.
      For the other buildings, it makes little sense. These should fill gaps to save travel time (and number of coverage buildings required).

    To those wondering about the title of the game, it's time to show off my mad Latin skills.
    The title comes from the famous latin saying "Per aspera, ad astra" which alliterates nicely and can be translated as "Through difficulties, to the stars", which is quite fitting for the game.
    "Astra" is the plural for the word for "stars", which is where the word "Astronomy" comes from - "astronomy" literally means "the law/culture/tradition of stars".
    "Aspera" is the neuter plural of "Asper", which can mean "rough" or "harsh". This is the word that "exasperation" is based on, and where the Italian word for "bitter" ("aspro") comes from.
    "Per aspera" is pronounced "per àspera", stressing the first "a".
    All "a" vowels sound like the vowel of "sun" and "pan", while the "e" vowels sound like the first part of the vowel in "fate" and "great".

    Definitely giving me some Anno vibes here. Really enjoyed playing Anno 2070, but felt quite limited by the map size. Also enjoyed creating a small naval fleet to patrol trade routes and the likes. If this game includes some defensive aspects like creating a ground army and defensive turrets, research tress, and if in future expansions add another planet that we could colonize to and even build mega ships, I will buy this game. You almost finished the demo, the only step left was receiving colonists. Didn't know that they would keep hidden nuggets in there like the unknown thingy at the end.

    Were the developers by any chance inspired by Frostpunk's UI and game mechanics? Or are they related in someway I dont know about?

    I am pretty sure you pronounced Aspera wrong. I have always heard it with the accent on the first sylable.
    Also, NASA's motto is Per Aspera Ad Astra, which is often translated from Latin as Through Adversity to the Stars. May not be the most accurate translation, but it gets the meaning right.

    Seems cool, but it seems the planet is kinda small is it not? The scale seem to be quite off unfortunately, especially for a planet that's supposed to have a diameter of 6.779 km. Just my two cents, but this istill a test-version, am I wrong? This is something they definitely need to tweak.
    As in: make Mars bigger aka make it's scale realistic compared to the dwellings and all that.

    Steel factory? isn't carbon pretty rare on Mars?
    (Edit: Turns out there is quite a lot of it in the ice caps and, also 95% of Mars's atmosphere is carbon) NOW I KNOW!
