  • On this channel we talk about a number of garage door motors. On occasion I tend to be a bit negative when it comes to their shortcomings. But if you positively want a new garage door motor, there are some great motors that might help you make a purchasing decision. And I hope I spoke as positively as possible about them.

    I have a Genie ISD990 Screw-drive that I installed new January 2002. Except for one travel-limit sensor it's been trouble free. Well, up until last week when the carriage assembly started to skip on the screw drive. So I went to Lowes and got the Genie 4063. Boy was I disappointed when I examined the weak re-designed snap-together rail system that they are now using, along with a few other changes like the elimination of the trip limit sensors, which I think is a mistake. I took it all back and ordered a new carriage assembly for $20. It seems like "re-design" is all about cutting corners rather than making the product better.

    Do any of these work with HomeKit? I think you mentioned MyQ no longer does. Which one of these have a LCD with the clock?

  • @Kil7witch84
    @Kil7witch84 Před 2 měsíci +1

    The only feature Genie was missing was Amazon Key, and now that they've got it added. There's no reason to use the MyQ stuff they keep locking down more and more each year.

    Clarifying question, you mention the Genie 7155L, the Amazon link is for a 7155-TKV. Lowes has a 7155-TKVE but no 7155L, Home Depot has 7155L-TKSV, 7155D-TSV, and 7155LD-TKSV. I know you said no go on the Home Depot Signature Series, but the price difference between Lowes and Amazon makes me think there is a difference, that difference being integrated LED?

    Great video. I especially appreciate your aesthetic sensibility! A Request: can you please make a video talking about chain vs belt, as well as noise.Considerations for hot and cold climates would help. Also: longevity. How many years can one reasonably expect a motor to last, especially if you enter and exit your home through your garage daily. Thanks!

    Great video my friend. I’ve been in the garage door industry for 24 years. I’m from the Bay Area in California and we build and install wooden carriage style garage doors that weigh typically 500lbs +. Our go to motor brand is actually Sommer. And in my opinion is smoother, stronger and quieter than any other brand on the market that I’ve installed. The only downfall is that they don’t have a side mount operator yet (but they are working one).
    Have you ever installed a Sommer ?
    Again, love your videos brother!!

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 3 měsíci

      Hello my friend! I have very little experience with Sommer. I am interested in their wall mount opener. Thank you for feedback and support to the channel.
      Do you install any Genie or LiftMaster?

  • @Zdosse
    @Zdosse Před 6 měsíci +1

    Which one is the most quitest out of the ones you mentioned in the video? several months ago, I missed a deal on the Chamberlain B6753T which was around $240, now it has skyrocketed to $400.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 6 měsíci

      That's a good deal for that B6753T.
      For the retail motors I think the Genie opener is very quiet.
      For the pro line openers I feel the Linear opener is surprisingly quiet.

    What do you think of the Chamberlain B6713t i think its the same as the B6753t but without the camera

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Yes! The two models that you have mentioned are virtually the same just one does not have the camera. Additionally, the B6753T will be discontinued and Chamberlain will offer the B6755T.

    Great video, thank you .
    Is the list in order, favorite to least favorite (but still good)? All seem great.
    Any tip on how to get a version with solid bar track, as the big box store ones have the bar in pieces. Is it worth getting single bar?

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 6 měsíci

      Hello! No, the line up on these openers are not from least favorite to favorite, but they are just a few of my preferred openers.
      There are garage door part suppliers online that do offer one piece rails. The cost for a one piece rail might cost more than a pieced rail. Yet I do think they are worth the investment.

    Quick question i'm confused same time overwhelmed because i cannot really find an asnwer and ADT just want o upsell me not really providing me with an answer.
    I am looking to upgrade for a smart garage door opener i i would like to know if the Chamberlain B6753T compatible with ADT? Have you had experience adding it to an ADT system? Also will the camara work through the ADT app or is this just through myQ app? Is the app expensive membership? Thank you in advance i just cannot get a clear answer. :)

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 4 měsíci

      Hello! Thanks for sharing your experience with ADT. Yes the Chamberlain B6753T should be compatible. MyQ only offers subscriptions on their added services such as video storage or video monitoring. Yet ADT might charge to set up the MyQ with their platform.

    I am surprised you do not mention garage door motors with battery backup in the event of a power failure. To me this is imlortant. Chamberlain has one with LED lights and MyQ remote monitoring.

      Hello. Thank you for your feedback! I do mention the battery backup feature in other videos. It is a great feature. The Chamberlain line will offer a battery backup on their higher end openers

    • @vladimus9749
      @vladimus9749 Před měsícem

      I don't understand why this is necessary. How often does the power go out while you need to open close the door? And in the rare event it does, pull the handle and open it yourself. Seems like a solution looking for a problem to add more tech and consumable batteries. 💲💲💲

      @@vladimus9749 California only opener’s with battery backup can be sold since 2019. Some people died in wildfires because they didn’t know how or lacks the strength to open and died in their garage mostly elderly.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 6 měsíci

      That's a great point. The Craftsman products still mimics the older Chamberlain product and body style. The older Chamberlain body style was perfect for a one-piece rail assembly. And I tend to find that those older body styles are quieter than the new versions that look like oval spaceships.

    No commercial, but having sold garage openers ( they are openers, not motors... The motor is the spinnie thing each opener had built into the machine ) I only care about 3 things: Product is solid, product has a chain drive, product is not a mongrel brand.
    Things that do NOT effect the machines ability to work:
    The number of lights
    Having a lamp cover/lens or two ( or none )
    Being 1/3. 1/2 or 3/4 HP
    Connectivity ? More likely will lead to an inadvertent opening of the door, if Seri hears you talking in your sleep. She always listens.
    MOST important, door is balanced and safe. Door should stayput in any position, when opener is disengaged.Move door upordown with a single finger,door should EASILY move, and not run away without you. THIS is what will make the opener likely last 30 years +.
    Professional installers generally receive the machine in one longbox, because the thing is not a kit...it is preassembled, with a single rail as opposed to pieced together sections made to fit into a consumer packaging that is compact and UPS'able. The difference is slim, but it is there.
    Professionals often offer an installed product for not much more than a hundred over buying a kit that takes 2-3 hours to put together and install. For my time,I will not install DIY next time, but call the Garage Door Guys to do it

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 6 měsíci +2

      This is great feedback.
      I think it's a cultural thing because in my area many call them garage door motors.
      Additionally I like your thoughts about how there's too much tech in our stuff these days.

      The “motor” doesn’t matter as much as the springs. The springs do the heavy lifting (literally). Genie, Chamberlain, Craftsman (rebranded Chamberlain)-doesn’t really matter. They all seem to last about 20 years in normal use as long as the springs are correctly tensioned and the door moves smoothly.
