  • So I drove the Volkswagen Vento. In every way, it is no better than a Honda City or Toyota Vios. But it drives way better. And of course - TURBO.

    Got my Vento 1.2 Tsi today, other than brake pedal that located freaking high, the drive is just pure WOW for a B-segment car.
    Thanks to Honda City which I initially planning to buy is out of stock, I manage to buy a better car to drive 😁

    HEAR ME OUT.. for those who have doubt over VW badge, try for a TEST DRIVE!
    I end up own this car, and NEVER look back. Its jst how the German car build.
    Dont be fool by the Interior, I straight amazed on how can something soo simple on paper and pic, felt so SOLID? When u enter, ull immediately feel cacoon and founded, thats how solid German Car is. My family owned, ViOS, Myvi, Saga.. so Im sure im not ranting aimlessly here. When u test drive this Unit, comparing this to ViOS, City, Persona (aside Mazda) is not justice, they dont come even near, insult almost 👻
    YES the maintenance is expensive, but its ONLY every 15K for normal service and 60K for Major. With the ride quality and superior cabin build - saving aside RM 100/Month on top of your commitment would MORE than enough.
    Be responsible to your car and your car would be more responsive to you..ITS A SACRED relationship, uphold it! So for those who is scared in committing to TSi Engine.. always can go for MPi Engine for peace of mind 🤴🏻

    I drive a Polo 1.2 TSI into the 6th year of ownership while most of my peers have ditched their VWs. The sharp looking exterior, impressive driving dynamics, rock solid build quality, excellent refinement and premium material choices in the cabin still puts a smile on my face.

      Mohammad Mahathir Federal Auto, Glenmarie. Anyway, they have extended the gearbox warranty by another 2 years on top of the pre-existing 5. Hung on to the car because it is still awesome on the move. Interior holding up really well. No rattling whatsoever.

    The real reason this Vento has its buyer thanks to the DSG and good torque power where it gives you very good acceleration. Conti can made good handling cars and sturdy than B segment Japanese does.

    Pro: Body rigidity of this VW is better than most of the Japanese's car (same class).
    Cons: Fuel consumption ( That's why using 1.2cc + low turbo, for more torque)

    Vento or Polo Sedan, 1.2 TSI or 1.6 MPI, they join the same ranks as the Fiesta and Mazda 2 in the driving department - simply marvelous for those that enjoy driving.
    Even back when they were CBU from India with Apollo tires and without arm rest or rear AC vents, this is one of those very few sub-RM100K cars I've driven that I could confidently corner harder and plough thru urban road imperfections and speed humps without upsetting the chassis nor suspension. It's just a pity that a majority of buyers of this segment prioritizes practicality and space (and partly by VW's hazy DSG mechatronic history back then) than pure driving fun. A definite compact city run about.

    • @pauljaa4719
      @pauljaa4719 Před 6 lety +1

      It's a pity but then again driving fast isn't everyone's cup of tea. Many buy cars to live with it. Obviously, practicality and space rank highest, for most people.

      I'm not sure about the 1.2 TSI, but the 1.6 MPI handling is not as good as the Mazda 2. The 1.2 TSI rear absorbers are harder than 1.6 MPI.

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  Před 4 lety +1

      If you dont do hard driving at all, 15,000 is fine. If you want your car to always run on fresh oil of course you can but it will be a bit wasteful if you're the kind that drives smooth and slow. If you often go for drives, touge, hard acceleration, 5-6k would be good to maintain your oil in good lubricance. As for gear oil, i dont buy that bullshit lifetime thingy bmw tells. I change them every 40k ... some people may tell you changing gear oil will damage the car, that is only true to certain extent if the car have had particles stuck in the transmission, and changing the oil or flushing might result in particles being dislodged from where they were and then becoming stuck in some places resulting in the transmission not functioning well

    • @kevinloh357
      @kevinloh357 Před 4 lety

      Bobby Ang ok I definitely do have instances whereby I drive it fast, but in KL traffic conditions it’s quite unlikely it will be too fast as well. I have also heard that for direct injection engines carbon blasting should be done every 40-50k mileage as well. Reason why I asked is cause I am on the road pretty often and I would like to do more preventive maintenance than to actually wait for something to falter and then only go fix it. Thank you for the helpful info. Gotta love your honest reviews!

      I'll answer. About the same. But ride is a tad firmer on the TSI version due to larger rims fitted (hence thinner sidewall). Grip is better on TSI version due to much wider tyres (215 vs 185). MPI version is more comfortable and TSI version is better at handling.

      Proton always had good handling for its price in Malaysia. But weak engine and transmission. And if in global open markets, Proton will definitely be expensive for its low volume of production. And if priced similarly in an open market, the Peugeot 208 Puretech eats both Polo or Proton for performance and handling.

      Asyraff Z. M. Yusoff I had driven the Persona VVT before. I used to own a Persona Elegance. Now I'm driving the Vento MPI. My take is, the main issue with Persona VVT is the electrical assisted steering wheel, feels too light. The handling in terms of body roll is better than Honda City, but nowhere near as good as the old Elegance. VW Vento has a better corner entry stability and lesser body roll. But mid corner onwards, Persona Elegance is much better.
      Another major gripe with the Persona VVT is the Punch CVT, especially when you need to move away from a static position. Don't floor it because it will jerk.

      Out of all B segments, two are obviously king of practicality - Vios/City. The other four handles really well: Polo/Vento, Mazda 2, Fiesta, Peugeot 208. Out of these four with great handling, only Mazda has a reputable after sales service. If it's upmarket premium design, only Mazda 2 and Peugeot 208 looks beautiful and upmarket. Vento and Peugeot 208 has the power to outgun cars a class above, while Mazda 2 and Fiesta would be the handling kings. Fiesta has an interior that's perhaps one level below Protons even.
      At the end, if you want a sedan:
      handling and power: Vento
      practicality: City
      If you want hatchbacks:
      handling and power: Polo/208
      practicality: Jazz
      Aftersales service: Vios / Mazda 2
      You don't mind reliability, aftersales, RV just want driving enjoyment:
      1. Peugeot 208
      2. Volkswagen Polo/Vento
      3. Fiesta
      4. Mazda
