  • Our newest 14/13/8 Chickadee Chromatic hammered dulcimer has a few changes:
-The top is coated with a black paint that gives it an orange peel texture, and then sealed with polyurethane.
    - There are now soundholes in the back.
-Walnut rails, Hard Maple pin blocks, and Walnut bridges

i'm saving up to save up for a hammered dulcimer.

How wonderful! :) They do have holes in the back, but there are several reasons we don’t have them in the front. Many of our models have an interlocking soundboard structure that allows for less frequent tuning and prevents warping and cracks from humidity. We call them Multiple Section Soundboards. Not having holes in the top therefore makes them for stable. As for some other models, in our opinion the material we use does not look aesthetically pleasing with holes in the top: ex- the Phoebe’s Cherry veneer. Additionally we have found that putting soundholes in the back allows the instrument to project more loudly in a noisy jam. We do know that people don’t always like the look of the instrument without soundholes in front, so we refer them to The Lady Victorias models which have a lovely rosette soundhole design: theladyvictoria.shop/collections/hammereddulcimers
