The main issue is the lack of strong female lead characters in movies. While there have been films like *Panchagni*, *Innale*, *Achuvinte Amma*, *22 Female Kottayam*, and *Padam Onnu Oru Vilapam*, it seems that creating male lead characters is easier and perhaps more flexible and less risky in terms of marketing.
I'm not saying there aren't any such movies now, but it's always better to show feminism, equality, or political correctness subtly rather than proclaiming it outright.

I'm gonna get lot of hate for this but I really need to add this. I agree with u except one point.. The reason Animal was criticized is not because of the main 'Animal' character in it but the illogical writing and representation of the female character. Not to mention the promotion type bgm for such treatment of women. Same thing with kasabha. We, educated people might realize that such should not be reality and it is morally wrong. But there are people who clap when such scenes happen and that is how they morally grow. Take Pushpa for eg.. I really hate the character of Srivalli and not the main char, bcos of the wrong image of woman she gives. That's all real feminists are saying. I'm not a big fan of Animal myself. But I don't understand why would anyone expect any kind of non offensive story from the maker of Arjun Reddy with an A rated movie titled "Animal" ? The movie literally focuses on toxic men and toxic relationships. Rashmika played the role of a typical "kanthari" who got impressed by the 'bad boy' and she was no less toxic than him. She literally slapped him twice or thrice and cussed at his father for his mistakes. Both of them were terrible and I don't understand why it's easy to accept a man to be toxic but a woman is always considered "damsell in distress" or "young, naive and manipulated" even when she made her own decisions.
