When Colin Kaepernick first started protesting against police brutality during the standing of the U.S national anthem, he was sitting in protest at first. Then he got advice from a white former green beret veteran who told him to kneel instead. Taking a knee is clearly associated with BLM and football was explicitly supporting it last summer with banners, shirts and yes, taking the knee and raising of fists. Kneeling is also widely viewed as an act of submission, not solidarity. Raising a fist is a symbol associated with communism, but also with the Black Panthers, a black supremacist movement. It also isn't exactly a peaceful symbol is it. So if they genuinely just want to be against racism they should use a different gesture. Although frankly I think politics should be kept out of sport completely as it is not appropriate, no matter what the cause. If poppies aren't allowed neither should BLM. Rashford at least gets involved off the pitch which is fair enough.

Yes, Priti Patel accused football players of gesture politics. Then, when it turned out that the England team were doing well and were popular with a majority of voters, she bought an England t-shirt, took it out of the packaging, put it on, and had her picture taken with the t-shirt (creases from packaging still visible) pretending to support England so that she could tweet that picture.
England's footballers have shown they care about society. Priti Patel has shown she cares only about Priti Patel.

I think a lot of people who happen to be white don't realize how much damage is done by hating other people simply because that group are Irish, black, jewish, Asian or what ever. It's like a domino effect because that young black football player then loses trust for certain people simply because they now expect to be harmed by a white person. It sets back the entire human family community.
